I have had my iMac for roughly a year and a half. I currently do not use a router, i know i need to change that, especially for security reasons. Anyway, the airport/wireless has always worked but recently for maybe the past month it has failed to connect, i am wandering if there is a way i can check to see what's gone wrong? or any instructions/tips to help me figure this out.
I have five Macs in the house, all of which can see each other on the local wireless network...but...for some weird reason, none but when they try to connect, I get �Connection Failed� after several minutes of silence.
When I click �Connect As...� in hopes of getting a login screen, nothing happens at all. Nada. Zilch. Zip.
The sharing settings on the MacBook are identical to the ones on the other five. Of course, the MacBook can connect the other direction to everyone, including my brand spankin� new MBP.
Any clues, oh wise ones? I�m stumped. What is it about getting into a simple MacBook that has two G4s and two MBPs scratching their heads?
I have one of every type of the newest Macs: MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Pro. Since upgrading them to Snow Leopard, none of them will connect to any wireless network -- regardless of the router (AirPort, Linksys, Cisco, etc.) and regardless of the type of security (open, WEP, WPA, etc.).
Every time I attempt to connect, I get the message that the "connection failed." Here's a 20 second screen recording of what's happening.
My powerBook has no problem connecting, but the Airport Admin utility for Windows XP can't "see" the base station.
Clicking "Start" then "connect to" and then "show all connections" and then the name for my Airport network, a "choose a wireless network" screen comes up, a strength meter (all bars on) displays, and a reminder that a network key is required. Clicking "connect" on this screen shows a "wireless network connection" thingy -- but it never actually connects.

Is this a known issue with the mac pro or do i just have the wrong wires connected?
I've got Wire 1 connected to bluetooth and wires 2 and 3 connected to the airport card.
I have a wireless network router/internet thing in one room of the house and my g5 is in another room. I also have a PC laptop and that can connect to my home's wirless internet no problem. My G5 simply cannot connect or even sense my 2wire901 home network, but it can see other networks in my home area. I only managed to connect to my own home network once! And the 2nd time my 2wire901 can never be found. Get this; it has to be the mac. Coz my laptop is sitting right next to my mac in 1 room and it has no problems connecting.

And then I connected the external hard disk to the esata.But neither the OS nor the Disk Utility saw the external harddisk. anyone here successfully done this before? Have I missed something?

Msg in printer window says printer not connected however the green light is solid on the printer. Lexmark tech support says the issue is with comcast router. Comcast says issue is mac related because both macs fail to print while HP machine works fine....

I have an identical iMac that has gotten back online just fine. My iPad and iPhone are also successfully connected to the new wireless network that he created, as is his HP laptop. why this one computer won't connect? The bars are lit up, as if I'm connected, but I have no online access.

To make a long story short, I moved to my girlfriend's place yesterday and I plugged in my iMac (20" 2.16 Ghz Intel C2D, 2GB RAM, ATI Radeon X1600/256MB VRAM) and I've been trying to connect to the Internet. Now, I couldn't have my iMac plugged directly were the router is located. Back at home, I never had any problems since I had my ethernet cable plugged into my iMac.
So this was my first time trying to connect via wireless or Airport (if that's even the same thing). Basically, I choose the network to log in and typed in the WEP key. I didn't get an error message so I assumed the key was fine. Also, it says that I'm connected to the network I'm on. However, when I try to get on Safari or MSN or something says I'm not connected to the Internet.
just converted and purchased a 21.5" iMac this weekend, he took advantage of that rebate offer on printers and picked up the black HP wi-fi printer. Anyhow he does not have an airport extreme or any type of wireless router since his iMac is right next to his modem, so he is using Ethernet.
So I tried setting up a wireless network using his internal airport card in his iMac and this worked out great i enabled internet sharing and printer sharing. For some reason when i try to connect his printer with his network it says that the network is not within reach even though the printer is right next to the iMac. Am I doing something wrong? is there something I'm missing? I know the wi-fi network is working properly because he is able to connect with his iphone and I was able to connect with my MBP.
I have been trying to connect my PS3 to my iMac for the past couple of days but with no success. Airport is on and broadcasting through the card built into my mac but it keeps saying "it can't connect to the server." I have connected my ipod touch and Wii with no problem through airport but for some reason it won't work with the ps3. Any suggestions or help?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to connect my new iMac (Leopard OS) to a PC running Windows XP Home Edition using the wireless router. I have the PC connected to the internet via modem/router (supplied by Aliant, the SpeedStream 6520). I have been able to "get on" the internet with iMac using the wireless router. However, I can't get the PC and iMac to connect together over the wireless router inorder to share files etc. On the PC side:
1) I disabled the Windows firewall
2) have set up and named a sharing folder
3) have set up a "work group" name
4) believe I have the correct user name and password
5) not sure about the "network" name, (?SSID) information.
6) have a # with several periods in it that I don't know if this is the computer ID, IP address, or one of the above items, or if they are all one and the same.
On the iMac side:
1) have the IP address of the iMac
2) I have tried "connect to server" but am unable
3) I have never been able to see a "shared" section on the left side of the finder screen.
I have read the thread by "edesignuk". However I did not "put your mac in the same workgroup as your windows PC" as I couldn't find the correct screens on the iMac, and also in phone discussion with Apple help they said they had never done that and advised against it!
I can connect to my router via wireless connection, but I cannot open any webpage.
Anyone has an idea what the problem might be?

I have a 2006 Intel iMac (Running 10.6.1)that is not seeing my wireless routers (D-Link 628 and Time Capsule Dual-channel). The D-Link is downstairs. It is not in the best place, but at my only option. My Macbook Pro sees the D-link fine on the same desk as the iMac. I replaced the D-Link with the Time Capsule and the iMac doesn't even see that. If I bring it close (completely underneath the desk) to the iMac it will see both routers. The weird part is before a hard drive crash and replacement it worked fine (I know, I know something is amiss from the replacement).

I am unable to reinstall the default OS (Mountain Lion) because I have yet to be able to partition the HDD correctly. The error I keep getting is: Partition failed with the error: Wiping volume data to prevent future accidental probing failed.At this point, the default Macintosh HD isn't showing, so it must of been erased/deleted.

I have been using my airport card in my iMac to share internet wirelessly with my iBook. However, I am unable to share the internet wirelessly with a friend's windows laptop. Her computer sees the network but does not ask for a password and fails to connect.

HPSETUP appears as a device in the WI-FI drop down, however to print I need to select this from the dropdown. Can my iMac's wifi connect to this by default rather than my broadband connection?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a dual band time capsule working wirelessly with 3 macs all intel (24 iMac, mbp 13, mb 13) with no issues. I was trying to connect a 17" flat panel G4 to the same wireless network on the time capsule and it fails to see the network.
When I type in the network name and password (WPA) it comes back with "encryption method not supported by the wireless network". Although all the others macs are working on this same network using the same encryption, the old iMac refuses to play nice. Is there something else I've overlooked?
We have a PC in the upstairs office with cable/DSL router for Internet (through Comcast). This service also has a wireless connection. We have a Macbook laptop which connects effortlessly to our home network and we use it all over the house. We simply clicked the internet symbol on the top right (looks like a little amphitheater), selected out network, entered the password and have been connected ever since.
Today we brought home a new iMac and set it up in basement office. Tried the same routine. Clicked on the internet symbol, selected our network, noticed that the signal is just as strong as it is upstairs, typed in password but that's as far as we get.
I've gone the rounds with the Assist and the Utility features. I've shut the Airport on and off. I've tried setting up a new network. I do notice that the iMac has a "self-assigned" ISP "and cannot connect to the Internet." Does this mean I can't ever connect? Do we need to replace the self-assigned ISP with our Comcast IP address?
I've read here and there that our router might have Macs blocked and we could add this iMac as a secure system to get on the network. But we haven't played with the router's settings because we wouldn't know how. Besides, the Macbook connects fine.
Does this have anything to do with TimeMachine?
I have my iMac connected to my wireless router via ethernet, but also airport is on. At the top right I can see I am connected to my network. How can I chose the faster ethernet to connect without turning of airport? How can I be sure the connection is with ethernet and not wireless?
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy airport connection to the wireless router has, over the last few days, been becoming increasingly flaky and intermittent followed last night by a total refusal to connect. It had been working fine for at least a year up until recently. The funny thing is that iStumbler finds my router(as well as some neighbours'), and reports a signal strength similar to what I have always had. Problems started as follows: iMac would show full bars, then no bars and then full again, followed by a slow drop to nothing. Turning airport off and back on again, would repeat this process. Occasionally, the iMac would also require the WPA2 password. And progressed to: Over a few days things got worse to the point that I had no usable connection and the airport would not always pick up any networks and would request the WPA2 password repeatedly always followed by a 'Connection timeout'.I would say that the airport extreme card is broken, except iStumbler is reporting 'normal' service. Also, my iPhone reports full signal strength sitting next to the iMac! Can anyone shed some light on this? Typically, Applecare expired all of 2 weeks ago.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSince the latest update of OSX, I'm encountering trouble with my WiFi connection. My old sony laptop has no problem connecting, so I'm guessing the problem must be with the iMac, and not with the network. When I boot the mac, everything is OK, I get connected. But after a while (less then half an hour) it looses connection to internet. In the airport icon appears a " ! ". To get my mac back on the network, I have to reboot it. It's not a signal problem, my mac always finds the network, but it doesn't connect. My password is asked, I'm sure I entered it wright, but it's asked over and over, no connection possible. I tried changing DHCP to a fix IP, deleting the network and reconnect as if it's a new one, and little stuff like that, nothing helps. Only way is to reboot.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently moved and am connecting my iMac (2006 Intel) via the internal Airport card to a high-speed cable network here at home.
For some reason, my connection started off fine but after a few hours (sometime minutes) of browsing the web, the connection will slow to a crawl or just stop completly.
I've tried changing the DNS settings, turning Airport off/on, re-booting the wireless router (it's a Netgear) all to no avail.
The connection will seem to be okay and then...back to the molasses slow or no connection at all. At my previous residence, I was connecting the same way without any issues.
As an aside, there are 2 iPads, 2 iPhones and a MacBook Air all connecting to the same network without any issues whatsoever.

I've spent the past few hours attempting to connect my new Windows 8.1 laptop to my iMac's Airport signal without any success. I was able to do this very thing using Windows 7 on an old laptop. From what I've been reading, it seems that the ability to connect to networks secured with "WEP-Shared" type security has been removed in Windows 8 because of the fact that it was outdated and insecure. It's great that Microsoft is trying to force individuals to be secure, but unfortunately the iMac's airport utility does not offer any alternatives.
