A couple of nights ago, my iMac randomly turned on in the middle of the night, so I held the back power button to shut it off. Later that morning, I tried to turn it on and was left with this screen (see attachment). I was very confused. After trying to boot into target mode, safe mode, the assorted...I restored the computer. It seems to work fine now, but I'm still wondering...what the happened?
View 6 RepliesThis is a strange issue I have had with my Macbook Pro for a while now. Whenever I am in a situation where I am only using my computer for say, listening to music purposes, I like to turn the brightness all the way down. Whenever I turn the brightness all the way down, however, after a few minutes it will go back up 1 pip of brightness on its own. Once I come into contact with the trackpad, however, it goes back down. Then it will go back up 1 pip on it's own again, and go back down when I touch the trackpad. It continues to do this and it's quite annoying.

Had a quick question. I'm on my third 27" stock 3.06Ghz imac that was replaced yesterday. The good news is that so far it doesn't seem to have any of the problems of my previous two 27" imac's. There is one thing though. A couple of seconds after pressing the power button to bootup there is a brief mechanical sound from the dvd drive like a quick ejecting sound even though there is no cd in the drive. My first 27" imac dvd drive made the sound but the second imac 27" Imac I had didn't. Is this sound normal? Would be curious to know why two out of the three 27" Imac's I had make that noise.

View 24 Replies View RelatedI just bought my new IMac on friday. Worked great for a day and then I had a problem. The fan came on really loud for about a good 10 secs and the screen turned off. I hit the power button and the screen came back on quickly like it had went to sleep. However, the fan came right back on very loud and the screen went black. I did this a couple times until I just let it shut down for an hour because I thought it overheated.
The next time I turned it on it worked fine for about 3 hours and suddenly the fan came on super loud. This time the screen didn't shut off and I was able to continue but it was abnormally loud. This morning I turned it on again and within a minute the fan came on AGAIN. I have to mention that I'm not using any intensive application or anything. The last time I think I only had safari up. Also, this is my first mac and it's not looking promising...
We have iMacs and Macbook pros at work but we need to connect to them from home. I am not concerned with getting a VPN connection. That part is taken care of. Problem is I need a client such as a Windows Remote Desktop Connection. Where if I connect to the Mac from home it just allows me to use the session and not take up a lot of bandwidth for screen sharing. People in the office do not need to know what project i'm working on.

1. Does the Magic Mouse automatically shut off when the iMac goes to sleep or is turned off?

I have a IMAC g5 PPC based machine.It was working fine before several days.Leopard 10.5.8 is intalled on it.Currently i am not able to boot OS.Whenever I power on the machine is stops at brown screen(with apple logo). I have tried to start in safe mode as well as single user mode. I am able to start it in single user mode but after 1-2 mins automattically it shows an error like this. "ioatacontroller device blocking bus" And after that system got stuck. I dont have any OS bootable disk. From where can I download the source of OS which I can install on IMAC g5 PPC based machine.

my iMac won't turn on. The day before yesterday happened the same thing, but after a few tries with the power button, it eventually turned on - and all ok yesterday. Both the day before yesterday and today, the general power was turned off for some minutes, but the iMac wasn't running. So now, I've tried to reset the SMC, removing everything attached, but nothing.
At least I can clearly hear the tic tic tic button, probably of the timer, because I set up a schedule to let it turn on at a certain hour. What can I do? It's a white iMac, never had a problem.
When the computer is sleeping or if I turn it off but the plug remains in the electrical socket, when I get very close to the machine I hear a slight crackling noise, as if the internal adaptor is making a slight noise. I don't hear it from any normal distance, and other than the buzzing phenomenon when brightness is below 50%, no other symptom. Is this normal for this model. I believe that the external adaptor for the 30" ACD made a louder but similar noise as well unless unpluged.

When I first got it, it seemed to work perfectly in every way, but the hard disk wasn't very big so I tried to install a new (larger) one. Everything seemed to go fine, but after the upgrade, the computer would only stay powered on for about 10 minutes before shutting itself off. I assumed that it was a problem with the hard disk, so I put the old one back, but the problem persisted. It will only stay powered on for a maximum of about 20 minutes before blinking off and then it has to sit for a while before I can get another 20 miutes out of it

My mid-2014 15" Macbook Pro randomly "loses" its retina display at the top menu (becomes pixel-y), where the battery, sound, and wifi logos are (on the top right side of the screen). A restart fixes the issue, but I want to know if this is an issue that can be fixed?

Have a G5 iMac (non Intel) that was running OS 10.4.11 that now won't boot. I get the chime and the Apple then blue screen where it hangs. It won't even boot from an install CD/DVD (same routine) to blue screen. I had wanted to do an archive and reinstall but couldn't get the disk to boot. I have been able to Safe Boot and view files. In Safe Boot, I've verified the hard drive (no problems detected) and Repaired Privileges, but still won't boot (blue Screen). I've tried an install disk with same result (no boot and blue screen).
I've hooked the G5 to another G5 iMac, booted the bad G5 in Target Mode. The hard drive appears on the second G5s desktop. Using CCC have cloned the hard drive to an external hard drive (now have a backup of I don't know what. During the cloning, Norton AntiVirus detected and Quarantined a virus. I've run DiskUtility from the second iMac and again found no problems with the hard drive or permissions. Should I erase the bad hard drive, reinstall system software (using an interim user). The try to migrate all the old applications and files from the clone? If not what should I do next?
I just bought a new iMac (2.93) today and every time I turn it on it makes a weird zzzZZ noise. Same thing happens when I wake the computer up from sleep mode. It sounds like its coming from the disc drive area. IDK if this is normal or what to do to fix it
View 7 Replies View Relateda neighboor in my buiding has found in the streets an imac indigo that isn't functionning and asked me to help him. Being skillfull on pc, despite I own an apple II, eons ago, I don't know anything about mac computers nowadays.
Searching the web, I found this might be an imac G3 with cd tray loading. When powered on, a folder with a question mark shows off.. I read that this might indicate a disk failure.
I tried powering it on with the C key down, it showed me a screen with 2 buttons: an cycling like arrow and an arrow to the right. Inserting the disk1 of panther gives me a icon in the middle of the 2 previous one with a mac osx Disc1 label. Clicking on the arrow to the right, the watch pointer revolves a bit and nothing more.
I have seen discussion about booting up in 64 bit configuration. I have read that you hold down the 6 and 4 keys during boot up. Didn't work for me with my I7. How does one really check on this? My understanding Snow Leopard is 32 bit on boot up by default.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI purchased a 24" iMac in fall of '07 and up until have had no problems at all. Let me describe the problems I'm having now and maybe someone can tell me what to do to remedy them.
A couple weeks ago it started freezing randomly. The mouse will switch to the beach ball and just spins endlessly. I can move it around but can't really do anything other than that. I have to do a hard reset to get it back to normal. Sometimes a couple programs are open, and sometimes none. It seems like it happens often when I quick switch from one user to another. It will switch, work for awhile, then freeze.
Now, no big deal, annoying, but whatever. But, the other day after doing a hard reset it revolted into a white screen with a flashing folder with a question mark. I did some research and found that I needed to repair the startup disc using the snow leopard disc. I did that and it allowed me to boot it back up normaly but didn't really solve the freeze up issue.
So, that just happened again, so I'll have to boot it up with the disc again and repair the startup disc when I get a chance. It's really beyond frustrating now.
I have repaired all permissions, updated all firmware, made sure the drive isn't full, pretty much everything short of backing up and wiping the drive and reinstalling the OS. Is that what I need ro do now? I mean, I know I need to, but is there something I can do to remedy until I can get around to doing that?
Does anyone know what may be up with my Mac G5?? It just keeps on turning itself off without warning! It can happen at anytime... usually about 5 mins after I switch it on, although this has varied!

View 5 Replies View RelatedI got my new 24" iMac ~2 weeks ago, and it's AMAZING compared to my MB... Except the fact that the computer will randomly wake up or start up in the middle of the night. The first night I had it home, it turned on 7 times! The next night, it did it once and I turned it off. It stayed off. The day after that, I turned it off when I went to bed. At 4 AM I hear "DONG!!!!!!!!" Ugh. I get up, and turn it off, only to have it start up at 5 AM. x_x I spent the next day looking for answers, I turned off wake for ethernet network something, and turned off screen sharing, quit all programs, and turned off the Airport card. Still, at 3 AM, it wakes me up. I turn put my jacket over it so I can get some sleep. I've been fighting it every night. I'm tired of it. Yesterday I reset the SMC and PRAM, and it still woke from sleep.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently replaced a failed hdd in my late 2009 aluminum 20 inch. I watched countless teardowns and hdd replacement videos and picture guides before I did this at it was my first mac machine. Not every time, but occasionally when I restart the machine the temp will be some where in between 79- 86 degrees f and the fan will be going at 1500rpm randomly for about 30 seconds and then stops. Other than that everything has been flawless since the replacement.
Did I do something wrong? I put the thermistor correctly on the hdd when I reassembled. What could be causing this as before I replaced the hdd I never heard the fan at all. Mac was bought on august 2, 2009, when hdd died I tried to have apple exchange it, but the wanted to give me a refurbished imac. Since I have had terrible luck with any refurb in the past I just replaced the hdd in it myself.

Why my iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) has suddenly began randomly freezing up?All working great since I got it but recently I am having a consistent problem with it ceasing up. As a result I took action and restored it to factory defaults over the weekend thinking this would resolve the problem but unforuantely after 2 days without issue the problem has re-surfaced.

I have a 20" Intel Imac that will not boot, not even from a CD.Interestingly I never get the chime on boot up, I hear the hard drive and the combo drive spinning, and just wind up with the spinning wheel of death. I've tried unplugging for 30 minutes, all the different various ways to boot (safe, CD, clearing PRAM). Could it be the PRAM battery causing this?
