Seems that the more I read about refurb imacs the more I notice dust on the inside of the screen
I have two specs of dust trapped on mine, they haven't annoyed me yet but I'm considering getting suction cups and cleaning it. Would this be the best approach or sending it in?
I haven't done it and I'm slightly scared to do it
there is a small speck of something on the inside of my iMac screen. at first i thought it was a dead/stuck pixel, but closer observation reveals that it's a little particle on the inside of the screen. i've tried tapping the glass lightly to try to dislodge the speck but so far no luck.
is this something that i can fix myself? i've recently had the lcd replaced in my computer, could it have gotten in there when they did that? should i take it back and ask them to clean the inside of the glass? i assume it would be a quick process, will it be covered under warranty?
I've had a 24" iMac (alu) for about a year. Now I bought a Mac Pro (Love it!). Therefore i wanted to sell the iMac, but:
All the time I've had it, dust has been building up inside the screen. I thought it was inside the glass cover, but I carefully removed that and cleaned it and the surface of the LCD element. That didn't do it...
From what I can see, the dust is inside the LCD element. Building up on the white lit surface behind the LCD crystals. (See the attached image).
You guys ever had to disassemble your macbook pro to clean the inside?
I am scare and very paranoid that I will have to do that someday, since I don't want to risk such an expensive machine.
I noticed when I put my new MBP 15" to sleep, there is a little black dot inside the sleep light. I know it's a minor issue, but is this normal?
If not normal, is it possible dust got inside? Would I be able to blow aerosol air in that area if I remove the bottom plate?
I have an older MacBook Pro now and it seems to suck air from the top below the screen and out the sides. With the new MBP if I have my computer on a desk etc it will collect from the bottom on both sides. Thus collecting more dust and blowing it out towards the screen. This would cause more dust build up on the compents inside the computer and on the screen.

Just weeks after buying my new unibody MacBook Pro in late December 2008, I noticed a few dust specks. I was in Shanghai (where there were no Apple Stores), so I waited a few weeks until I was supposed to go to Sydney.
When I arrived in Sydney, I booked a Genius Bar appointment. After the Genius inspected the screen and attempted to wipe the screen with some iKlear, he told me that he would check if there were any new screens and that if there were, he would replace it today.
So, I waited for about four hours for the repair, then came at the time he told me to collect it. I waited for another two hours, as the Genius also found out that my AirPort Card was faulty, so they were going to replace that as well.
It was about ten o'clock at night when I got back my MBP with a new screen. I thought everything was all right, until I found out that the person who repaired my screen had misaligned the top and bottom, so the bottom stuck out 2mm, or rather, the screen was sunk back 2mm. I couldn't go back to the store the next day, since I was bound to go back to Shanghai early next morning since I had school on Monday (I'm a student).
After about two weeks with the new screen, I noticed that the hinge had gotten noticeably looser, and when I moved it, it wobbled back and forth for a few seconds. Then, a week from then on, I noticed a dust speck in the lower left corner. I also had one in the center of the screen. The summer holidays were in two months, so I decided to just hold on for a little longer.
Since the summer holidays have rolled around, I'm going back to Sydney in July. Do you think that Apple would replace my screen the second time?
EDIT: I also found out that my MBP has some type of problem. It is extremely dependent on the battery, and I have to plug in the charger, or it shuts down instantly (or in a few minutes). After the crash, the battery lights would blink on and off (all of the lights). I'd have to remove the battery cover, pull out the battery, put back the battery, close the battery cover and plug in the charger so that the lights would revert back to the normal lights.
I went to a dealer in Shanghai about it and they told me that it might be the battery's problem, so I got a new battery for testing out, but then the computer shut down after about one hour of usage. I'm almost definitely sure that it is the logic board's problem, and do you think that Apple would replace my logic board for free? (I have never dropped my MBP, or have any reason for it to suddenly turn faulty.)
I'm really enjoying my new 27" i7 iMac. It has a quiet Western Digital hard drive, a uniform-enough screen and no strange noises (unless it's really hot and I put my ear right up to the back vent.)
The second day I owned it, I noticed a speck of dust trapped between the LCD and backlight and now I'm being neurotic about it. If it was there on the first day, I didn't notice it. I don't want to exchange it since it's such a minor thing to exchange an otherwise incredible machine for, and there's no guarantee that replacement wouldn't have other, worse defects.
I tried tapping on the screen with my knuckle around the affected area. No movement. I then had the idea of using compressed air, carefully directing the red tube into the vent and through one of the round holes into the case and giving it a few quick puffs. Of course, I wanted to see if anyone here had done this first. I don't want to stir up more dust in there either.
Overtime your machine will accumulate dust. What is the best way to keep this off from getting inside of your machine.

When I remove the glass planel to clean it and put it back, there is inevitably ALWAYS some dust that gets in between the second I wipe the screen and second I put it on. I've spent hours over the past few weeks doing this and it's driving me mad. All I want is a screen with no dust. I heard I can use canned air. If so, how exactly would I go about doing this? Spraying the canned air inside?

I check my electronics all the time to make sure their in perfect order, and noticed dust etched under my 27" imac that I can't get off. So obviously it's inside where I can't get access to cleaning it off. What do the workers making these computers forget to wipe the screens off before they put them on? Now it's not notiecable unless you look with a flashlight in the dark, but still annoys me. Does applecare even fix a issue like this?

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy 27" has one speck of dust in the corner. I spoke with local Apple repair shop and they'll take care of it "provided no indications of tampering are detected". Other possible dings not detected, so I got away relatively light. I wouldn't worry about it normally, but it'll have to be mentioned at sale time three years down the road, and the price will take a hit if I leave it there.

View 2 Replies View RelatedA few months ago, i noticed what looked like a streak across the screen, but it wasnt on the outside, it was on the under side of the glass. Now, the streak is very visible esp in natural lighting. Its not noticable at night, because the screen light shines through it making it invisible.
It looks like dust? But im not 100% sure, but it has a directional pattern which leads me to believe its being causes by the inner fans of the system, and that there are some gaps where the air flow is constant. Also, the streak is in the upper left hand corner mostly (no where on the bottom poritions). Im assuming that the place holder at the top-backside of the iMac, for the exhaust fans to expell the heat from within, is what is causing this air flow.
I just bought a second refurb imac 27 and today when i received it and i started transfering the information from time machine i saw 3 little black dots on the middle of the screen, now i thought dust behind the screen? but i also consider maybe dead pixels? a scratch?Here are the pictures i took from the imac.How do i know for sure if these are dead or stuck pixels? i called apple care but it will take one week or more if i send it to check, so i wonder if there is something i can do to verify if these 3 dots are really dead pixels? or if it is dust behind the screen?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm ordering a new iMac tomorrow. I'm a little worried about the inability to open the iMac up and clean any of the fan blades. I know the fan on my tower, the fan on my graphics card, even my ceiling fan gets dusts around here (2 dogs, SoCal dust etc). They require periodic cleaning or the gunk level gets....well....pretty gunky! Is there a filter of some kind that's easy to get to to keep the inside of my iMac nice and clean (read: cool)?

I plan to use it for basic home stuff such as photos, video editing (basic), t'internet etc. I dont plan to play any games on it (i have a ps3 and a wii which do a much better jobs me thinks). The question is this: will the low end 24in imac be good enough? there seems to be a lot of negative comments round here on the graphic card. also on a not less serious note, do you find the screen too big on your desk. View 1 Replies View RelatedWhile me and my friends were trying to figure out possible causes of this issue on LED screens, someone came up with the brilliant idea that the problem could be caused by the sound speakers. His recently LED TV had the same problem. He found out that what was causing the yellowish tinge on his TV were the Sound Speakers. Volume speakers use magnets, so the magnetic field was screwing up the colors on his tv tending to yellow.
After having removed the Sound Speakers the yellow tinge disappeared in about 2/3 hours. I tried this on my led screen laptop with a magnet I had in the kitched, and guess what! It worked, color changed, not for yellow but it changed for sure. The Sound Speakers on new IMacs are near yellow tinge, that's why some people are getting it worse. I've reported to apple. Faulty design Quality Control. If you have his tell us if you're using internal or external speakers. This may lead us to more clues.
I'm getting a new iMac 27" (1TB) this week and was wondering, which 2TB hard drives Apple installs.
I have read that they use WD and Seagate, but which models exactly? (caviar green or black) If you could post the infos of your iMac that would be .
Also, I want to upgrade to a 2TB drive. I know, I have to stick with the brand that comes with my iMac, because of power issues. However, I have also read that Apple uses a special OEM drive and an upgrade won't work (heat problems remain, a special firmware is necessary) Is that true?
I see a great deal of debate between the quad i5 and i7 but nothing between the two i5's. I'm not super techy so I really can't tell what the benefits or disadvantages there are between the two. In fact, I didn't even notice that there are two different ones until I was poking around on apples site.

*you can build identical iMacs both with the 5750 (5850m) and the 3.6 is only 50 bucs more.
Are there any iMacs that have High Definition screens? I've seen people selling High Defintion iMacs on eBay but is it true? Are the external Apple monitors High Definition, too?

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I have XP installed on my 27" iMac, and that's is cool news. I also have a windows 7 professional upgrade disk, that bootcamp won't recognize. I would just blow away that partition and put 7 on. I don't care for any of my data on the XP install, I just want to get 7 on there with an upgrade disk.
How can I boot from the upgrade disk inside XP? Or is there another way?
If I try and install from inside XP it tells me it can only be done (configuration sets) from Windows PE (Preinstall enviroment)
as in I need to be booted from the disk.
How do I accomplish this? I also have a 2009 late iMac, which means that the video drivers don't work out correctly, but I already remedied that with making the video driver usb drive that fixes the issue. I just need to figure out how to get to the point to install.
The top left of my iMac Alu gets really, really hot. Much more then the rest of the body, alot of the time it hurts to touch the top left corner. So what's causing all this heat?

Anyhow the screen is majorly condensated and I want to clean it. I saw a video on YouTube of some guy using a roller to do this.
Does anyone know of any good products to use to clean the inner LCD and back part of the glass? I also need to be careful where to do this so not to attract any dust.
