IMac :: 27-inch - Dust Under The Screen - How To Clean

Jul 17, 2010

A few months ago, i noticed what looked like a streak across the screen, but it wasnt on the outside, it was on the under side of the glass. Now, the streak is very visible esp in natural lighting. Its not noticable at night, because the screen light shines through it making it invisible.

It looks like dust? But im not 100% sure, but it has a directional pattern which leads me to believe its being causes by the inner fans of the system, and that there are some gaps where the air flow is constant. Also, the streak is in the upper left hand corner mostly (no where on the bottom poritions). Im assuming that the place holder at the top-backside of the iMac, for the exhaust fans to expell the heat from within, is what is causing this air flow.

MacBook Pro :: Keeping Glossy Screen Dust Free / Clean

What's the best way of wiping dust off a glossy screen, and generally keeping it clean? I'm hesitant to use just a soft cotton cloth in case it creates static, thus attracting even more dust.

IMac :: How To Keep Screen Free From Dust

Dec 13, 2010

I keep finding that there is dust under my iMac screen. When I remove the glass planel to clean it and put it back, there is inevitably ALWAYS some dust that gets in between the second I wipe the screen and second I put it on. I've spent hours over the past few weeks doing this and it's driving me mad. All I want is a screen with no dust. I heard I can use canned air. If so, how exactly would I go about doing this? Spraying the canned air inside?

IMac :: Dust Sitting Behind Screen

Dec 28, 2010

As OCD as I am with brand new stuff. I check my electronics all the time to make sure their in perfect order, and noticed dust etched under my 27" imac that I can't get off. So obviously it's inside where I can't get access to cleaning it off. What do the workers making these computers forget to wipe the screens off before they put them on? Now it's not notiecable unless you look with a flashlight in the dark, but still annoys me. Does applecare even fix a issue like this?

IMac :: Any Way To Remove Dust Under Screen

Jul 28, 2009

Just purchased a refurb iMac 2.93ghz, noticed dust under the screen, well I think its dust as I can still see it when the mac is turned off, would a dead pixel be visible when turned off? Is there anyway I can remove it without taking the glass out, maybe compressed air?

OS X :: Dust/debris On Inside Of IMac Screen?

Apr 7, 2009

there is a small speck of something on the inside of my iMac screen. at first i thought it was a dead/stuck pixel, but closer observation reveals that it's a little particle on the inside of the screen. i've tried tapping the glass lightly to try to dislodge the speck but so far no luck.

is this something that i can fix myself? i've recently had the lcd replaced in my computer, could it have gotten in there when they did that? should i take it back and ask them to clean the inside of the glass? i assume it would be a quick process, will it be covered under warranty?

IMac :: Chip In Glass Behind Screen - What If They Only Replace The Glass But Get Dust?

Aug 11, 2010

there is a small chip behind the glass of my 27" imac. It's about the size of a small crumb or the eye of a small needle. It's hard to see, but it's definitely there. Today is my last day to get the imac replaced or repaired. I have a feeling if I bring it in that they will see there's no reason to swap out the entire imac, and if there is I would have to wait awhile because it's a custom high end one so they don't have the specsI'm worried if they swap the glass that it's just some 19 year old kid that does it and he won't be careful with the screen and will get dust, finger prints, etc. on the glass making it worse.

IMac (Intel) :: 27 Inch - Screen Randomly Goes Off?

Jun 2, 2014

I have a 27" iMac. Just recently, the screen has begun to randomly shut off. I then have to squeeze the power button, followed by a click of the mouse. This will bring me back to my password screen. Sometimes, that would be it, other times, it will do it repeatedly, for no reason, and then settle down.

Just for those of you who are bound to ask me about my Energy saving settings: Computer to sleep – Never. Display to sleep – 15 min.

It seems to me that this could be a hardware issue, but just incase any of you have had any experience of something similar, I thought I would ask.

IMac :: The New 27-inch IMac Uses Up To 365W Versus 280W For The Old 24-inch!

Oct 20, 2009

The new 27-inch iMac uses up to 365W vs 280W for the old 24-inch! (going by Apple's published max. power consumption numbers. I doubt they would lie because it isn't exactly favourable for them to put in falsely high numbers in an environmental report).

That means there's some extra beef behind the extra components. Perhaps the ATI 4670 is a bit overclocked and the 4850 runs a bit faster than the old iMacs? Admittedly that 2.8 GHz i7 is going to suck a fair bit of power - the recent 2.8 GHz i7 860 model runs at a 95W TDP, however, the quad core iMac isn't available until November. So it won't be using the i7 860, and my guess it is using another custom processor, something a bit more power efficient, somewhere in between the 55W TDP of the old iMacs and the 95W TDP of the i7 860.

The difference between the power consumption of the two computers is 85W. The old iMac had a 24-watt digital amplifier, this new one has two 17-watt amplifiers. That brings the delta down to 75W. Say the iMac's i7 processor has an 80W TDP. That now brings the delta down to 50W. The new display likely wouldn't increase power consumption because of the LED backlight.

I'm not sure if I'm missing much (OK, two extra RAM chips may use another few watts), but there is still a fairly massive 50W unaccounted for.

Just a bit of fat to chew on

Edit: Here is a video proving that it is under the glass overlay (click on it to see it):

MacBook Pro :: Dust Getting Under Screen

Jul 11, 2009

So I bought my mbp about a month ago and I've been taking care of it as if it was my newborn. Thats a bit of an exaggeration but I do carry my ipod cleaning cloth with me and I am constantly wiping off smudges on the body and screen. I've started to notice some spots that I can't clean off the screen. It seems like dust is getting under the screen. This is the same thing that happened to my ipod touch and now there is lots of dust under the screen.

For all new Aluminum MacBook owners: Let your eyes run along the bottom of the screen. Look real close, probably two inches from the bottom-left and look behind the glass where the screen meets the bezel. Do you see something there? I can't figure out what it is and if its just me. Look likes a loose component or a clump of dust behind the screen.

MacBook :: Specs Of Dust Under Screen

Dec 27, 2008

I've just got a new macbook and it's awesome, really feels like a well built notebook. I have 3-4 specs under my screen, there not dead pixels so I'm 99% sure there specs of dust. Now I'm curious, are all the new Macbooks gonna have a few specs or not? I don't know whether to take it back for a new one or live with it. If most Macbooks are going to have the odd spec I will just hang on to it and get over it. But if most of the owners on here have 100% perfect screens, I'll get it exchanged.

MacBook :: Dust Towards Left Of The Screen

Apr 4, 2009

I just switched to a Mac after filing at $21,000 lawsuit against Dell. Maybe two weeks into my purchase of and Aluminium MacBook, I spot something that looks like dust under my screen. I have tried scratching and nothing is there, as well as glass cleaner and a microfiber cloth. But it doesn't appear to be a dead pixel, as it's there when the screen/MacBook is turned off. It even looks like it's under the screen. It's in the middle horizontally, but more towards the left of the screen, yet still enough to be prominent.

MacBook Pro :: Screen Got Dust Or Whatever Behind Glass?

Oct 12, 2009

Well when I turn my screen off then I get a clearly visible 'thing' on my screen. The reason why I call it a 'thing' is because I have no idea what it is and how it got there. Can't I be something 'pitched' my screen and the back ledscreen cracked? Because I don't think dust can get behind the glass, both the behind screen and the glass have this "thing". It's luckily not big, may be 2 mm2. I got applecare so I guess apple will fix this for me? right? But it is kinda silly that ill have to lose my macbook for 3 weeks just for that little thing, but I'll have to because I can't clean it myself I guess.

MacBook Pro :: Fiber / Dust Under Screen - What To Do

May 2, 2010

I just got a mid 2010 13 inch macbook pro in the mail about a week and three days ago. Couple of days after doing some work with it, I noticed a little fiber (dust) approx. 1 centimeter long that is lying underneath the glass cover for the display. Anyways, I called up AppleCare, and the support adviser told me that she could either replace it, repair it, or just give me my money back. I certainly don't want a replacement, since most of my software cannot be installed on multiple machines without having to deal with the developers directly.

So my only options are to either get it repaired, or deal with it. Since the repairs would be free, it is what I'm leaning towards doing, but I have read some cases where people send their gear in to Apple to get dust removed, only to get it back with more dust, or even worse: they replace the display entirely, and it happens to contain dead pixels! Also, over time, even if your display is perfect when you first get it, do these displays tend to get dust behind them anyway? (if that makes sense.)

Mac :: Dead Pixels And Dust Behind Screen?

Aug 16, 2010

I received my new 27" i7 1TB HD on Friday. I was amazed at how fast the shipping was. I'm in the UK and I was told it would be shipped from China and arrive in a week and a half, but instead it turned up from Ireland the very next day! After unboxing it I ran all the tests.. yes, call me a sceptic and tell me I'm looking for trouble! No yellow screen, no grey shadow, no scratches on cds, no dead pixels on photo booth. So far so good. I could swear my Superdrive is making an odd off-key noise when accepting discs, but second opinions tell me it's normal. The Seagate drive can make 'processing' noises every now and then but it doesn't bother me too much. I think in Europe we're stuck with Seagate for 1TB from what I've read here
