Or is there anything new out?This iMac get EXTREMELY HOT on the top left corner it can burn your hand how bad it is.The atual temps are within limits with istat but that excessive heat on the back left top corner is concerning me. View 4 Replies View RelatedI first had was the computer names for the iMac was set to MacBook and the actual macbook names switched to MacBook (2). I figured out how to change that, simple enough. On going problem is that now on the iMac I am set to admin but cant view other users folders they have the minus sign in the bottom corner of the folder and some folders and files have the Name "Staff" for permissions. The only users should be myself "TJ" and my wife "Laura". The MacBook is fine with just her and I as users but the iMac is goofy with "staff".

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've searched online and in threads here on the "can I use an iMac as a monitor" question, and found mostly negative answers. One exception seems to be the 27" model connected via mini-Display Port.However, I'd been hoping to connect an older (G4/DVI) Mini to a new (21.5") iMac, to use the iMac as a monitor.The only semi-hack solution I've seen is to use Screen Recycler or similar software. I have two questions, though:-Can Screen Recycler be used to mirror a desktop, not just extend it? (all info I've seen talks only about extending/2nd monitor, not mirroring).
-How's the performance?
I have late 2007 Mac mini and I have Snow Leopard installed and I was simply watching a Youtube video and then all of a sudden the entire system freezes (couldn't move the mouse) or anything and started choking on the audio (replaying a bit over and over)... had to manually power it off. The hard drive was replaced several months ago at the Apple Store... so I doubt it's the HD. The Mini is back on now of course... it's running fine, but I've never seen anything like that before. Anyone else ever have this issue?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to get a dual boot 10.4.11 and Linux partition going on my G4 iMac and have been experiencing a great deal of universal resistance to getting it done . . . chiefly in the area of getting a GUI going and then problems with Linux seeming to "break" the ethernet connection after getting itself "successfully installed." In various Linux forums posters have been asking to look at the "syslog" file but without a GUI my knowledge isn't good enough to do that. However, in that process I recently looked at the OSX Console's version of the "system log" and I see repeated mention of: "mDNSResponder: NOTE: Wide-Area Service Discovery disabled to avoid crashing defective DNS relay 192.168.1.1." . . . .
This seems to occur every day and doesn't seem to interfere with my use of the internet in OSX side--I'm typing this now in OSX--but would this explain possibly why Debian loses the ethernet connection at times making it hard to update/upgrade or retrieve the xorg stuff?? Should I contact my ISP about this or is this a non-issue?

I've been having a lot of problems with heat in relation to my firewire audio interface on my MacBook.Initially I thought it was my external monitor that was the main problem. Well, it does add some heat. The temperature raises about 5-6 degrees celcius and the fan speeds up to 2400rpm when idling. This I can live with.However, when connecting my firewire audio interface the heat and fan speed becomes unacceptable. The heat raises about 10 degrees, and the fan speeds up to about 5500rpm. After about half an hour of regular use, like browsing, the temperature goes up even more (as expected) and the fan starts blowing at full speed. And this by just browsing the web.

I'm going straight from the Keystation Pro 88 into the MIDI port of my MacBook Pro. I use a Pre Sonus Firepod as my audio interface (not sure if that's even relevantWhen I begin playing too many notes (especially after pressing the sustain), the piano (Garage Band grand piano .exs) starts to cut out. It sounds like BAD static, as if the MIDI were overloading Logic. I've tried changing the buffer size in audio preferences - it gets no better, only worse when I lower the size (32 being nothing but static).

But it had been such a good machine I focused on it and took my eyes off of technological progress. I thought the PCI buses in the Mac pro were just faster versions of the kind of PCI in the G4. The G4 was outfitted with a Revolution 7.1 sound card from M Audio and that fed into a Creative 6.1 speaker system (with internal amp). The sound was amazing. It was my hope that I'd be able to transfer this card to the Mac Pro and discover even higher quality sound. But before I even tried plugging it in I did some checking and found that PCI Express is an entirely different technology than PCI.
M-Audio has stopped making the Revolution even though they still have drivers for OS X 10.5 (for folks who put this OS onto machines with the original PCI slots, I suppose). So now that this dream has shattered I am wondering what are my options for being able to hear great sound from my new computer. The internal speaker is OK for the beeps and buzzes produced by an OS that wants to get your attention but it sounds horrible when you're trying to watch a surround sound DVD. I'd like to hear from any Mac Pro owners who have found a way to make their computers deliver high quality sound. I know the Mac Pro has optical in and out but have no idea how I could make use of this other than to plug into a rather high priced surround amp.
I've got the old Macbook model, circa 2006. My audio port's been broken for awhile now, and I recently got a 5.1 surround sound system. I've been playing music through my iPod, of course not getting the full surround effect, but would love to be able to hook the Macbook up to this system, be it in full surround or not. View 4 Replies View RelatedI successfully installed XP via Bootcamp and my XP audio software Sampitude. I did also install the MOTU traveler using newest drivers. However, it does not comply perfectly. I was installed alright, but when using it, it doesn't work properly. MME seems to work, but doesn't. ASIO doesn't work at all.
Basically it crashes the program, but if you just unplug it, everything works fine again, using the internal audio.
my MBP has been really underperforming. Things take longer on my Macbook, then on my 10yr old machine with 512mb of ram and openbox. Also, firefox, has been going extremely slow, and crashing. I'm not using beta, and I have opened it in safe mode, and it still crashes.I know there must be something wrong. Both my brother and some of his friends with macs have also been experiencing stuff slowing down. So the first thing, I though it might be is that there is an update, or something like that. So I updated, but no go. It's still slow. And just the other day, I got to see this for the first time.

I have a Macbook Pro and have been using Microsoft Entourage to automatically connect to and download my e-mail from my college's mail server. All of a sudden my internet got really slow. I began looking around and found that it was probably a DNS issue so I added 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 to my DNS server list and my internet began to work nice and speedy like it use to. The only problem is that whenever I added these I can no longer access my school's mail server. At this point I am completely clueless and really don't want to have to pick between e-mail access and fast internet.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently reformatted my mbp because the filesystem crashed and I couldn't repair it. Everything works fine except it beach balls a lot now and it's driving me crazy. It will beach ball quite frequently for like a minute or 2 randomly. This never used to happen until I reformatted it. I ran the disk utility repair and it still beach balls. I think its just a bad install. I have the Early08 MPB and Snow Leopard.

Actually there is a compress PDF feature (either via an applescript that can be downloaded) or using Quartz filter "reduce filesize". However, when dealing with bitmap figures embedded in the PDF, both solutions in Leopard yield very dissappointing results. Whilst in Tiger, the results were outstanding for both file size reduction and maintaining the bitmap clarity.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIn the process of doing clean install from tiger to leopard and I'm running into some issue. 1st attempt - was stuck on initial "Install" screen (After I erased my HD and selected drive to install but before the Install screen changes to show the status of the install remaining) for 35 minutes. I stopped the install and restated.2nd attempt - Finally got to the progress bar, 28 minutes remaining. However, it didn't move from there. I checked the Installer Log and it kept trying to install printer drivers and foreign fonts, but unsuccessful. Finally got an error message stating install was not complete. Restart.3rd. attempt - This time I unchecked printer drivers and fonts. Progress bar stated 18 minutes, now it's down to 17 (after like 10 minutes) and according to the Installer Log I keep getting errors in stuff (Error writing caches to /Volume/...., Input/output error, Failed to enumerate /Volumes/...., Cannot prune("com.apple.user*pictureCache*"). However, according to the progress bar, it keeps moving through the processes, still show 18 minutes now.

After running a volume repair that failed I tried to restart my laptop, but when it gets to the blue loading screen, it takes forever and then shuts off. I can still run the Mac os x installer. When I go to disk utility, the Macintosh hd tab is visible, whereas it wasn't available before. Okay scratch that it isn't available anymore. Though, I just clicked on startup disk and it is visible there.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI do not know if this has been posted before or not...But I found [as have others] that it is a GOOD idea to exclude all of the Parallels .HDD files from a Time Machine Backup. Parallels stores the entire Windows "hard drive" as a single file under OSX, and while this is transparent to the end-user, any time any "windows" file is updated [ie. everytime you do something under Windows], that ENTIRE file is marked as updated.

Besides the 8800 GT card, I also have 4 GB extra OWC RAM and 2x500 GB WD hard drives installed.My problem (and I tried searching, didn't find anything) is that it I accidentally bump the tower, like with my knee since it sits under my desk, it will restart. I've tried padding the side that's up against a leg of my desk, but it still restarts. It has nothing to do with what's currently running just if I bump it, it restarts.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought a used macbook yesterday morning and everything seemed to be working properly at first, but by the end of the day it started having a problem when booting up. 2 gigs of RAM (updated by previous owner)160 gig Hard Drive (updated by previous owner)Everything else is the same as this listing. The problem: when booting up, the screen turns on, but just remains white, without showing the apple logo and spinning circle. I left it like that for a good 10 minutes, and it never continued to boot, it just stayed in that state. I shut it off, then started it in safe mode, which worked fine. From there I restarted it, and it worked normally. The same thing happened again later (white screen, turn off, boot in safe mode, boot normally).

Is there any way to safely remove the key and clean it?2nd: Bootcamp isn't working very well. After installing Windows XP without problems, the Leopard disk isn't working right.
