Does anyone think it will be possible to swap the next generation/updated iMac's GPU with either the 4850 or 4670 GPU on the current iMac? It seems like a GPU update is the most sought after feature in the pending refresh. I would really like to get an iMac now (would be my first Mac obviously) and for me the decision to buy now would be a lot easier if there was chance of swapping out the GPU's down the road. Thoughts?

View 12 Replies View RelatedI'm getting the new Canon T2i camera very soon. It's supposed to be retail released in Mid March (which means next week hopefully). Canon supports the new SDXC format. SDXC was introduced in 2009 and it's supposed to be the replacement to SDHC. Supposed to be much higher read speeds. So does the iMac support the SDXC cards?

I assumed that they did have 2nd gen processors as the image they use to advertise the processor is for the 2nd gen series of Intel core processors. I just wanted to confirm this belief.

I'm in the market for a Macbook Pro and I went to an Apple Store today to see the differences between a 13" and a 15". Essentially the same 'guts' inside but I did notice how much brighter the 15" screen was in comparison to the 13". Enough so that the employee seemed to think it was strange and pulled another new one and also a refurb unit to compare. In all cases the 15" screen was brighter then the 13" current gen, previous gen, and in comparison to the air.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI see Apple has added a lower price refurb 3.06 previous generation (I've been waiting ) price $1599. Total with tax $1710.00 New 2.93 at Powermax no tax total $1788.00. What would you advise? What to do? New or old? If the 3.06 was a bit cheaper I would definitely go for that as I think it is better machine, but for so close a price is it better get new?

It wont change my opinion of the new machines (I think they're fantastic) but I'd love to really know what the new big difference is graphics wise.
View 13 Replies View Relatedmy imac g5 wont boot up. I get the folder with the question mark coming up.I have reset the smu & pram. Still not booting. I have tried to restart with option key, but only the two arrow keys displays. No hardrive icon displaying. I have tried to re-install with original disk os 10.3.5 but device keeps on spitting out the dvd's( I also have tried Tiger OS 10.4 and Leppard 10.5same issue) . I notice also that the fan runs loud after a few minutes. I checked the Hard drive via another device and found it unallocated. I reformatted and re-installed. No go after rebootinng.

I recently bought a 1st generation 500GB Time Capsule as I don't need the dual-band functionality of the 2nd Generation. Since setting it up I've been having a problem, whenever my iMac sleeps from a long period of time the backup is delayed when I wake the computer up. This would be less irritating if the backups continued like normal after the computer was awake, but I have to keep re-starting the backups manually to get the backup schedule back on track. This is especially frustrating as the whole point of the system is so I don't have to worry about manual backups.

I have read I would need to short the temperature sensor. Could someone tell me what cable is required? Also do I need a special mount for the OEM HD(3.5?) + SSD? Also another option, have SSD 2.5 and regular HD 2.5 to replace the standard 3.5" OEM HD. I read the logic board only have one SATA port but would like to know if it is possible to use a cable that fits both? Would this affect performance?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a late iMac 2013 and have had problems since day one and always just assumed it was bad RAM as i upgraded to 16GB, from 8. I finally took the RAM i purchased out and have left the original RAM in and still continually get the below error after restart.
I have removed Kasperky via the Kaspersky removal tool but i notice it still references it below? Unusually it seems to be ridiculously unstable when i am downloading any Movies i have purchased from iTunes (the current movie has crashed 4 or 5 times today) or if i am ripping a DVD i have purchased using iSkysoft. I have started in safe mode but that made no difference, i actually think it has gotten worse since i removed the extra RAM.

Can this be done across my wireless network? I have the Airport Extreme WBS (802.11n)if that makes a difference.
We both use calendars quite a bit... My iPhone is setup with my MBP, and since i travel quite a bit i need to keep it that way.
I gather there've been more than a few headaches getting working video drivers for the ATI 4850 in the iMac (windows side). A few posts have said that version 8.661 of the AMD driver (Catalyst 9.10) works, but other versions including newer ones, don't.

But Numbers will not permit me to open any documents in iCloud Numbers by a pop-up indicating I need the newer version of Numbers 3.2.2!!!!! I'm having serious video card issues and everything I've read on the subject suggests that the card has heat sink issues and that a new card is required. I'm out of warranty and was just wondering if I had to go through the apple site to purchase a new card or could I just figure out what models are compatible with my mac and purchase one from a retailer or ebay?
The card I'm using now is ATI Radeon X1900 XT and is PCIe bus. I'm using Mac OS X 10.4.11 and I have a mac pro that I purchased in 2007.

I have a 2nd gen MB and recently got a 5th gen MB (white) with NVidia adapter. I moved my HDD from 2nd gen to 5th hoping all would be fine. Although system seems to work fine, I have problems on boot (command line text appears). I made HDD verification with DU, all seems to be fine. There are many problems with Disk Permissions and they can not be somehow repaired.
What would you suggest to move my HDD in the best way? Shall I try to solve boot problem? Or shall I just format the HDD on 5th and restore the system with Time Machine or sth?
i've done my homework and searched this forum and i actually read most of the posts that cover this thing. The thing is, everything inside my mac pro kciks ass expect my gpu... its the x1900 which is really, really bad, at least for gaming; bad fps, high temps, bad usage of memory or memory leaks for no reason, MANY new games have bugs that are related ONLY to this card (like gta iv) and also it gets all dusted so easilly. So anyway, i was looking at the HD4890. I understand that there's not even a mac edition of it (that wouldn't really work on a 1st gen mac pro anyway right?), but i was thinking if i could use a flashed one. The thing is, i've heard a lot of people talking about another card, the HD4870, which i think has a similar rom with the HD4890, but of course i could be wrong. So about the 4870, i heard people saying they got it to work, for bothed a flashed pc version and the mac edition... could anyone confirm this? If those cards do work, i cant think of why the 4890 couldn't.
