View 7 RepliesI'm about to order my first iMac and I want both the wireless keyboard and mouse, the problem is how do I pair them with the iMac? Nothing will be wired in the first time its turned on so how will i be able to do anything - such as tell the iMac to look for the wireless kit? I don't have an old USB keyboard or mouse, so unless the iMac is clever enough to look the first time its turned on i'm stuffed. I don't want to have to buy a separate USB mouse just to tell it I have a wireless mouse, defeats the object!

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering if there is a way (and room) to replace the standard drive with 2 hard drives. I was thinking something like a 128G SSD and then the biggest notebook drive I can get (7200rpm).
The SSD would be the primary drive and should just scream.
Still waiting on my new 27" i7 imac. Trying to figure out if current desk is suitable. Can someone tell me the dimension in inches of the imac 27 from top of desk to the top of the imac

First off, music is my main priority when it comes to computing, I write all sorts of electronic music, I'm used to working in Windows under Ableton or FL Studio, so I'm not hip to the Mac software for these functions.
In addition to the electronic music I write, I'm also very much into music instruments, I've been playing drums for around 8 years now, bass for 5 years, guitar even... so I plan on multi-track recording... up to 16, maybe even 32?I do plan on opening up my own home studio, I would be using this PC, (not sure if the MBP or the iMac)
I'm also a lightweight gamer, playing games such as Team Fortress 2, World of Warcraft, or StarCraft II (Diablo 3 will probably be my biggest gaming vice when it comes out) sparingly in my free time, which would be better for this sort of light gaming?I sometimes spend up to 8 hours on the computer, also, so if these screens are too harsh on the eyes after extended periods of time, I'd appreciate if someone could enlighten me to that.
SO, with all that said, which do you guys think would suit me better? (and I'm really thinking the iMac would)... I used to want portability, but I don't think I'd feel comfortable taking a $2,000 laptop with me around campus at the local community college.
- Needs to be able to record up to 32 tracks of audio
- Needs to be able to render high quality tracks
- Minimal latency
- Able to run some of the less graphic intensive games out now
- Easy on the eyes for extended periods of time
Oh, I'm also an amateur filmmaker, I love filming, editing, and producing, etc.Would you guys suggest the i5? i7? Oh, and what clock speed does the 2.93GHz i7 run at when in turbo-boost using all cores?Oh, and what's the resale value of the iMac compared to the MBP? I heard the MBP retain pretty well, is the same true of iMac's?
I have a late 2007 24" Al iMac, 2.4GHz, with a BT Mighty Mouse. Tonight, for the first time ever, I got two separate dialog boxes titled "Bluetooth Pairing Request", one from Ana and one from Lydia. Neither of these are my names. I recently moved into this apartment complex. Could the pairing requests be coming from a neighbor?
To answer myself, I think it is coming from a neighbor. I just went into the BT menu and clicked on Set Up Bluetooth Device. It didn't find my MM, but it did find a couple of mobile phones with the above names. Anyway, I rejected those two original pairing requests. I also have Airport turned off. So I don't think anyone can access my iMac.
I have a Power Mac G5 made in 2004 that has no bluetooth hardware installed. I have ordered a D-link DBT-120 USB Adapter that is supposed to work with Mac computers. Also i have the OS 10.5.8 running. My question is, are there any instructions for pairing the mac wireless keyboard with the D-link or will it connect automatically?

I've got them paired okay, but when I try to send files from the phone to my Mac, it tries to connect, gets connected for like a couple of seconds and then fails again. I've tried to connect to the MacBook several times on the phone and every time it fails.

I need to just get the device address.

I just received my 13" mbp and its amazing but I am having trouble pairing it with my ipod through bluetooth. In bluetooth settings they are both on and are both discoverable so I'm not sure what's going on.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an Apple Bluetooth Keyboard (aluminum). Right now it's paired with my MacMini + HP LCD.
Sometimes I connect my Macbook Pro (MBP) to the HP LCD.
Whats the easiest way to transfer the keyboard pairing to the MBP (and vice versa). Or is there a way to share pairing between the Mini and MBP, so I don't always have to un-pair, pair, un-pair, pair, etc. ?
I often run into pairing problems when switching the keyboard between the two macs. For example, sometimes my keyboard will refuse to pair with the MBP.
Anyone have experience with this?
Unable to get my mouse and keyboard (wireless) to connect to the Mac. How do I make that connect happen.

I have the HP 460cb mobile printer and a MBP.
It's simple, I want to print wirelessly via bluetooth, no USB dongles!
I have the HP Bluetooth card inserted into the printer so there's no problem with that. Everything was setup smoothly but for some reason, the two won't connect.
The devices were recognized and setup, then I went to pair them and they wouldn't connect. Suddenly they did connect for about 30 seconds (I could see the Bluetooth sign with the three dots in the middle, indicating that a device was paired; and yes I made sure all other Bluetooth devices were disconnected to avoid any confusion)
had my macbook in for repair a few days ago, so prior to that I wiped it and restored everything afterwards with time machine.
just id a bluetooth firmware update as well, but for some reason it fails to connect to my wireless keyboard. no trouble with the wireless mouse.
I get this message:
then I enter a password, it says 'finalizing pairing' but then the window disappears and nothing happens
System Spec: Late 09 21" 3.06, GeForce 9400, 4gb ramCurrently I have itunes and safari running, if i enable the visualizer my imac is noticeably slower, especially when browsing the internet.I thought it might be the fact I was running a second 1080p display from the 9400 would have caused the slow down. But the same thing occurred after i disconnected it. After repairing permissions and restarting, pmram etc.Is the 9400 causing the slowdown? I know its fairly old but itunes visualizer and safari should be quite basic tasks. Its not the end of the world i know but does the 27" imac have similar issues as i plan to upgrade my machine in 2011.
I had a DLink DIR-655 Wireless N router and my wireless was running very fast, 9.7MB using [URL] with no lag looking up sites. I had to upgrade the router since I was hosting a site and the router wasn't working properly for that.
So, I bought a Linksys WRT610N Dual Band router. I have the iMac running on the 5GHz band and it runs around the same speed.
HOWEVER, when I open Safari or Firefox, in the status bar, it says "looking up google.ca..." or whatever site I'm browsing for and can take up to 5-10 seconds before it starts to display the site. When it is on the site, browsing around is fast as long as it doesn't change domains.
ANOTHER HITCH, I have VMWare's Fusion installed on the iMac and Vista installed there and there is no lag to browsing a site. When I type in the site, it immediately goes to the site and I am able to browse fine.
Any thoughts on this?
The Mini Has Some Great Software On it, Could i Use Migration Assistant To Transfer The Programs To My iMac Without Losing My Data On My iMac? Or is There Any Other Way?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI think it worked at one point, but sometime around the point when I set up Fusion with the partition, Windows Aero turned off and is no longer an option in the display settings. I installed this driver with the modded INF to see if it would do anything, but Aero is still not an option. I also have issues playing some games in Fusion, while they work fine in Boot Camp.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI sent an email to Steve Jobs about my yellow tint 21.5 iMac issues (three exchanges, all affected, resulting in a refund). I got a call from Dena at Executive Care within 24 hours.
She said they are aware of the problem and do not know how widespread it is. According to Dena, the issue is not resolved and that ordering a new iMac will not result in a fixed display.
She said the engineers are working on it now and they are not sure if it's hardware (most likely) or software related. Further Apple stores cannot do repairs because they haven't determined what the issue is.
I have been reading and reading but I can't seem to find the answer. Im trying to figure out if the optical drive for the iMac has a slimline sata connector or a standart sata connector. Reason is I'd like to install an SSD and use an optibay adaptor.
View 6 Replies View RelatedHey guys! So just a few days ago, I received my iMac, and boy do I love it. A definite upgrade and improvement from my old Acer Aspire 3680.
But despite this, I have noticed that my iMac does have a slight yellowish tint at the bottom to corners. I just arrived at my desk, and the login window (I keep a password lock) had a slight yellowish tint when I woke up my iMac from sleep . I then noticed that the bottom two corners had a slight yellow tint to them. I verified this via the MacRumors Forum post, and I was able to find it out by making my desktop background white. Again, it may not seem noticeable at first, but if you examine it closely, it becomes apparent.
I've already called my local Apple store and one of them said that don't know about this issue (?) and that they could schedule an appointment for me. I declined because I have to have me parents take me and I'm pretty sure that I can't handle the load of carrying a 20lbs. computer w/o dropping it (yikes!).
So here's the big question, should I go to my local Apple store or call the Apple hotline when it's open (currently closed at the time of this thread)? I don't want to sound like a lunatic or someone that just wants to get a better iMac for free. Again, it's slight, but considering that I do movie editing and Photoshop work
Since the positive/negative ratings on the front page are always more tilted towards negative, rate the iMac update by stars here. Feel free to add a comment explaining your rating, or what could've made it better.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI don't know what the deal is. I'm trying to install 2 sticks of 2GB into my 7,1 iMac, and the screw just won't turn. I'm using a standard Phillips head, and nothin' doin'. The screw is now starting to strip, so I guess I'm going to have to take this into the friggin' Apple Store just to have them open the thing.
Had a quick question. I'm on my third 27" stock 3.06Ghz imac that was replaced yesterday. The good news is that so far it doesn't seem to have any of the problems of my previous two 27" imac's. There is one thing though. A couple of seconds after pressing the power button to bootup there is a brief mechanical sound from the dvd drive like a quick ejecting sound even though there is no cd in the drive. My first 27" imac dvd drive made the sound but the second imac 27" Imac I had didn't. Is this sound normal? Would be curious to know why two out of the three 27" Imac's I had make that noise.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI forgot my admin password on my iMac recently and so i used the reboot with OS X snow leopard install disc to reset the keychain, but now on my login screen, it used to be just my account name, there is one called "Other" so i went into accounts in system preferences and tried to delete it but it isnt there?is really annoying me p.s. the "other account" isnt actually an account it says "Other" and when you click on it asks for your username and password...so i type in the admin accounts name and password (admin account is the only one on this computer), and it just opens up my admin account.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a G5 iMac - 2.1 ghz, 20", 250gb hd and 3gb ram, but it has been having problems starting up and it is also going to sleep midway through a task or at random times totally unprompted.
It now almost never starts up first time (I keep the iMac mains power lead always connected and the mains electricity supply turned on at all times now)- sometimes I will get the 'Start-up Chime' and then the cooling fans start spinning very loudly and then after a few seconds the iMac stops the start-up routine, but often when I try to start-up I don't even get the 'Start-up Chime' and I have to leave it for some time before trying again.
I can also now only get the iMac to run as a Firewire Target Disc by starting up with the T key held down and then using an old G4 (400mhz) Powerbook Titanium as the screen/keyboard by using the iMac HD as the startup disc for the Powerbook but this is obviously just a temporary work around.
I have also tried backing up all my data, and reinstalling the Mac OS X onto the iMac but the iMac still will not start-up normal and I still have to use it just as a Firewire HD.
Have a new (for me) iMac and need to transfer all 10.4 files including mail, etc.from an older iMac to my newer one whioch is running 10.6.
View 2 Replies View RelatedNot sure if this is possible, I'm sure there's someone out there who would be able to tell me either way. I've got a D Link router thats plugged into my 50mb in my lounge. I'd like to put my airport express in my kitchen and pair them so its the same network. The reason for this is that I have my HIFI in the kitchen which will be plugged into my airport so I can use it as remote speakers for my itunes while I'm still connected to the 50mb and D Link. Is this possible?
