I'm from Austria so I was not sure if I'll get it before Christmas but today my i7 iMac finally arrived and it is absolutely amazing. I was so afraid of all the possible issues everyone was talking about in this forum but now I'm really relieved and amazed by that beautiful machine!!!
but back to my question. After setting up my system and installing all the tools and software I was trying to find some cool images for the desktop background, like stills from Avatar or something like that, but I wasn't able to find anything near the iMacs resolution.
Looking to see my iMac desktop on HDTV in another room. Would like to find a wireless solution.
Can anyone recommend good hardware or software solution for this?
I want to have nothing on my desktop except my HD image. Is there a way that I can organize downloads to go to a specific folder on my dock?

However, when two of our children access their accounts, the desktop background size shrinks to about 80% of the screen size. The fonts and icons also become larger. When they log off of their accounts, the appearance changes all of the other accounts until we re-start the computer. Re-start makes it go back to full screen size until on of the two affected accounts are accessed again.
I've attempted changes through the desktop appearance menus in preferences, to no avail.
I have a new 27" iMac and when i turn it on it goes straight to the desktop instead of the log in screen. How can i make the log in screen come up first? I tried looking through system prefs but had no luck.

It seems to have the stats of a serious desktop machine. How does it stack up?2. Is it hard to get used to the Mac OS? I am a very proficient Windows user and I wonder if I will feel like a novice for very long on a Mac.3. How many years, typically, do Macs "last"? Everything is functional but I cannot access anything after reaching the desktop. 10.6.2.snowleopard etc. I cannot get it to respond after reaching the desktop, none of the topbar functions respond at all to anything. View 6 Replies View RelatedI put in a computer game i found in my iMac, and the CD didn't come up on the desktop like CD's usually do. It just continued whirring like it was loading the CD, nothing happened. I tried to restart, but it got to the desktop background, and the little black swirly thing in the middle of the screen. And after 15 minutes it didn't restart OR shut-down so i had to press the power button, which I hate doing. So i now i have no way of getting the CD out, and I'm kind of scared I've completely knackered it, everything else is working swimmingly, but theres a CD stuck in the drive and i can't get it out :|

How do I add iCloud to my iMac Mac OS X 10.6.8 desktop? I just transitioned from Mobile me to iCloud. However I can only access iCloud through an internet explorer like Google Chrome or Safari. The mail application provided on Apple's 2009 iMac is connected to my Mobile me account. How do I change my mail application to reflect the new iCloud account?Â

Daughters imac desktop upstairs has always had a weak connection (takes a few times to get started) but has been used this way for 3 years.
Of late she cannot get connected unless she brings it down to next to the router, and often dosen't work unless she plugs in the ethernet cable.
I just purchased my first mac (a macbook 2.4) and I'd love to buy a mini, but I can't justify it until it gets an upgrade. Here's to hoping that the sources in this article are wrong, since 2010 is little too far away for an upgrade for my taste....

View 24 Replies View RelatedI sometime use my MacBook on a big LCD screen. To do so, I press F7. The problem has just started today, when switching on my computer, All the desktop icons appear wider than usual and the icons from the left part are missing (as if I had my laptop connected to the LCD screen before pressing F7), pressing F7 doesn't solve the problem. What can I do to restore the normal view? BTW all the laptop keys work fine.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy dad recently brought a MacBook Pro but I get the chance to steal this to take to clients. What I would like to do is to use my license for software I use on both the laptop & my machine, can I duplicate the user or migrate the user to the laptop & sync the info when in the same wifi location of my iMac. I know there is iDisk but I'm not paying for that service. I would like to mirror my iMac desktop on the laptop. I'm sure this can be done.
View 2 Replies View RelatedGot a WD external drive for backup and the WD Smartware Icon is on my desktop and as I am not using the WD software I want to get it off my desktop but when I try to eject it or drag it to the trash it just goes right back to the desktop. If I drag it into the finder it just makes an alias and goes right back to the desktop. It showed up when I turned on the HD along with the MY BOOK icon. Turned off the HD but when I turned it back on same problem. There is an uninstaller for the software but as I have not installed the software it does not work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy most beloved Kitty girl had to be put down the other day and I SO want her photo as my desktop. I took an old photo of her and cropped it and went to (on Iphoto) share and set desktop and I had it perfect. Then I played around with other photos of her to see if I liked them better and when I came back to her photo and did a set desktop it was WAY too big. I went to the original on my camera and transferred it to I photo - fixed it and did a set desktop but it is way to big.

Both are on the same network and for what it's worth they are connected via Cat6 cable on a Time Capsule. Is there a way to do a remote desktop so each computer can be iewed/manipulated from the other? Also, what about shared libraries, particularly iPhoto? It would be nice to be able to view the same photo library from each.

Recently have not been able to drag widows, folders, or files on my desktop. Nor have I been able to draw boxes (text or picture) in PhotoShop or InDesign. If, for instance, you want to move a window in FireFox to accomodate another window, when you go to grab the bar at the top of the page to drag it it won't move; sometimes the result will pop the window to the Dock. Also trying to select text is very erratic; you can't always select the text you need. You can pretty well set the cursor anywhere, but that's about it. The scroll arrows work, but not the scroll bar if you grab it. At first I thought it was the Apple optical mouse, but I moved it to my laptop and it functions fine. I've tried trashing the Finder and Desktop Pref files, but that didn't work. I ran the Hardware Diagnostics off of the installer disk, but that didn't find anything wrong. Anyone have any ideas? I'm running the most up-to-date OS that I can on this machine; 10.4.11. Asside from this quirky thing, it's always run fine.

I'm trying to fix a friend's G5 desktop, 1st generation. 1st LED comes on, 2nd LED comes on when I press start button. Power supply voltages are correct. Hard drive runs, but fans don't come on. I have power to fans. 5 and 12 volts. No beeps. Pressed SMU button as well, and nothing changes. Don't see any bulging caps. Someone else changed a few before I got it. Also jiggled RAM chips.
