How do I add iCloud to my iMac Mac OS X 10.6.8 desktop? I just transitioned from Mobile me to iCloud. However I can only access iCloud through an internet explorer like Google Chrome or Safari. The mail application provided on Apple's 2009 iMac is connected to my Mobile me account. How do I change my mail application to reflect the new iCloud account?

I've recently starting having problems with my external HD that I use for my Time Machine backups. I'm not able to repair the drive using Disk Elements, so I want to copy some of my backups stored therein onto my Mac HD before I try reformatting the external HD. However, I get the error message "The volume has the wrong case sensitivity for a backup" when I try dragging the backup folders onto my desktop. Is there any way to salvage the backups before I try reformatting?

I have a Mac Mini 1.83 Ghz running 10.6.4 that I backup to a 1TB Newer Technologies dedicated drive that will not appear on desktop or finder yet occasionally it backs up the system but not always as scheduled. At first I thought it was a drive issue so the retailer replaced the 1TB drive only with the same results. I have it connected via USB.

I recently switched from Windows 7 to a new iMac. I connected my FreeAgent external drive and let iMac's Time Machine re-format it from windows to mac language. The backup completed, and all went well...but now there's a "Time Machine Backups" drive icon on my desktop. Does that have to be there? At first I deleted it, and the Seagate drive could no longer be recognized...so I unplugged the external drive and then plugged it back in. That did the trick, and it went back to working order. I also tried moving the backup drive icon to "Home" under "Go", and the same thing happened as when I put it in the trash. My question is, is it possible to move that drive icon from the Desktop to another place or do I just have to live with it on the Desktop?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Mac Mini and two mac notebooks that run Snow Leopard. I've been backing these machines up to a 300 GB drive that is now full. Today I brought home a 2TB drive so that I can use Time Machine to backup the desktop Mac Mini. Can I use the same hard drive to use Time Machine for the two notebooks, as well? What about storing other backups on that drive as well? I'm just trying to map the most logical approach to having safe backups.

View 2 Replies View RelatedFrom my Mac (OSX 10.7.4, all updates current) the Backup application to iCloud has stopped working.
When I look at iCloud in system preferences I see that I have 23.77GB of 25GB available. I edited the Backup schedule, and was able to re-establish a backup with iDisk as the destination. System Preferences says that my iDisk usage is 21.47GB total, 8.37GB used, 13.11GB available. iDisk sync is off.
When I run the backup, it all looks happy for a few seconds, and then I see the message "This plan has never been backed up to this destination". I have never used Back to My Mac.
What I want is to be able to automatically backup my Mac to storage on the Internet, for which I (thought) I have paid Apple. What do I need to do in order to get Backup working again?

View 2 Replies View RelatedFrom what I can figure out, MobileMe stores my emails on the server. Does that mean I don't have a copy of my emails on my hard drive even though I check email using the Mail application on my MacBook Pro? In the sidebar of Mail I notice there's a section called "On My Mac" with a folder called "Local Backup" with a bunch (but not all) of the same folders that are under ".Mac Account". The most recent email in these folders is from 2010. I have no idea how this folder got there or if it's even needed.Am I obsessing over this for nothing? I feel like I should have a backup of my emails after reading that once I've migrated to iCloud, I'm cut off of MobileMe. I need to delete my MobileMe account from my iPhone before migrating to resolve an Address Book historical sync problem. That means the only copy of my emails will be on MobileMe which I won't be able to get to. Unless of course, Mail saves them somewhere on my hard drive.
