I am trying to install Norton Internet security and when I click on exe it opens a small window with lots of cryptos.I was thinking of turning off an eventual firewall but I don't know how to do it!

My Quicken software suddenly stopped being able to connect to my bank via the Internet yesterday, giving the error message "Could not establish Internet connection with . . . check your Internet connection" Quicken support said others had been reporting the same problem recently, and it seemed to have something to do with Norton Antivirus. I uninstalled my "Symantec Solutions"/ "Norton Internet Security for Mac" applications (Norton Antivirus, Norton Firewall, Norton Confidential, LiveUpdate, and Symantec Scheduler) and the problem disappeared. I then contacted Symantec/Norton support and learned that they sent out an automatic "LiveUpdate" to their software this week that replaced everyone's working copy of "Norton Firewall" with a defective Version 4.1.0 that blocks connection to the Quicken server (and perhaps other programs?) unless the "Application Blocking" setting is manually turned off. Symantec says a patch to correct the problem will be released through "LiveUpdate" soon.

When I was downloading the norton security suite, there was some problems with certain files not being "properly downloaded". Now I can't access any app or program that uses internet access. I've tried deleting and wiping the Notron program using the systemac uninstall.

Now here I am on a Mac with apparently no security to speak of other than the firewall in my Netgear router...... I have heard some say "Macs don't get viruses!!! or Malware". Can someone who is a true Mac expert give me some decent advise? I am happy to buy McAfee or Norton but which is best.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was using Norton Anti-Virus for some time, with no problems. Decided to try the suite of programs under Intego Internet Security. All Hell broke loose. First, SuperDuper could not back up - it spent eight hours on repairing permissions until I stopped it. I then repaired permissions through Disk Utility, and it took twelve hours. Safari started stalling and freezing. Every time I clicked, I got a spinning ball. It didn't matter whether I tried to click on a link, scroll, or anhy other action. It would hang, and eventually load, but it was so bad, I started using Firefox, which had no problems. Intego did not have the answer, except to agree that if Intego was the only change made, it had to be the culprit. I did some research online, and found a posting which mentioned turning off the Real-Time Scanner in order to repair permissions. The minute I disabled it, repairing permissions went quickly, SuperDuper backed up in record time, and Safari went back to normal. Although Intego has stated that all virus software interferes with repairing permissions, I have never had an issue under Norton. With this program installed, it means I have to deactivate the scanner every few nights when SuperDuper is scheduled, and when I want to repair permissions. That wouldn't be the worst thing, if it were not for the fact that Safari bombs every time the scanner is on. Has anyone had any experience with this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running OS X10.4.11 on my 800 Mhz PowerPC G4 iMac. I have had a dialog box pop up whenever I open safari or firefox after starting my computer. It may also appear if I quit the browsers and reopen them but not always. Also once I close the box I usually do not see again until re starting or reopening. I believe that it some kind of bug that is causing the browser to run slow at downloading letting pop up ads come up even though I have the block up for pop ups and it is possible that it is redirecting my browsers to other sites.

I have done a little online research and have tried force quitting the browsers to kill it and downloaded a free trial of MacScan which took several hours to run and told me it found tracking cookies and spyware. I followed the instructions to isolate and remove them which left a folder on my desktop titled isolated items which I then threw into the trash and secured empty trash on it for good measure.
I am new to the mac world, I've always had a windows before. Well, I just installed XP on my macbook, and was wondering if the "Parallels Internet Security powered by Kaspersky" is secure enough for my pc. after install, only get the spinning card- no startup. tried all startup key combinations and zapped PRAM. also ran disc utility and hardware check- hardware is fine all I get is nothing. noticed others reporting problems with the update on another thread, but my mac won't even start up. do not want to have to reinstall OS and 3rd party apps. any suggestions? would it help to take to apple store geniuses- can they somehow bypass the update and get it started up?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI went out and got the new Nano 16g and had to install the latest version of itunes to get it to work. No problem, everything was working fine for a couple of days. I tried to browse the itunes store today, but it wouldn't work and a message stating that I need the latest version of Safari to access the itunes store.
I tried to download Safari but it wouldn't work, because apparently, I need the latest security update before I can get Safari to download. I have tried to get the Security to download a few times now and a message stating "Security won't download to your computer". This has become frustrating and I am limited with my mac skills and computer skills in general.
I have the older 10.4.11 core 2 duo osx. I think I am choosing the appropriate software options. (Tiger) I have enough memory left on my computer as well.
ESET Cybersecurity won't install because I keep getting a message "Please remove Intego Internet Security Barrier as it is in use'. I have check everything and cannot find it at all on my laptop. I downloaded removal tools and they don't find anything.

I can't install neither Security Update 2012-003 nor Flashback Removal Update. The installer says the software cannot be installed on my machine. I am on a G5 (PPC) iMac running OSX 10.5.8. What's going wrong? By the way, automatic software update did not find any updates for me. I had to download the updates manually from Apple's software support page.

my mbp 15" won't install FT, kept getting msg saying need security update 2010-005. I did a software update and everything is up to date. and found that 2010-005 was installed a month back. i did a reinstall of that security update via apple site and try FT again. the same thing happen, same msg!

The setup: VirtualBox (latest), Snow Leopard and Windows XP.
The situation: I installed VirtualBox, all seems fine. I then installed Windows XP. All seemed fine. I installed Gust Additions. Then I installed Safari. Then I went and downloaded and installed Microsoft Security Essentials. When it attempted to install, it would fail, and asks me to restart and try again. I went ahead and restarted. When the virtual machine restarted, it'd get all screwed up, squashed video and frozen. Then I'd get a dialog saying that the virtual machine disk image has a problem or some such, and claims that a likely cause is a problem with the harddrive. After I clicked OK, it beachball'd. I force-quit the program.
I have done many searches and my questions have not been answered to my satisfaction. I'm sure it is because I don't understand it all yet.
Question 1, My neighbor is a real d*&k and has wireless set up, according to him he can pick up any computer a long ways away. My new iMac (2 wks old) can he hack it even if I don't have any wireless set up on it yet?
Question 2, I have Airport Express to use only for my speakers and possibly a wireless printer down the road. The Airport Express will be used in one room only and it is the room directly across from the the room he has his station set up in (approximately 16'). If I hook the Express up, how do I stop him from hacking my system via his wireless base station to access my iMac?I know I am a little paranoid, but I just don't trust this guy at all. I know search is my friend and I have tried to us it, but I guess I'm not smart enough about wireless to feel comfortable. So thank you in advance for your knowledge on the subject.
I am trying to use ESET Cyber Security and can't down load it until Norton is gone. I have taken all of Norton off the computer I can and it still says I need to remove it before I can use ESET. View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running a virus/addware/etc. Scan on my Macbook, with Norton (yes I know some of you hate Norton but thats what I got back in the day so its what I'm using) and the scan keeps stopping about half an inch from completion and just sitting there. The computers fans start to run like its working too hard or something and it will not go any further. It has stopped with around 49946 files left three times in a row now. What's going on? I have tried to delete the file it keeps stopping on then it just stops in the next in line. I just got Leopard and don't want to install until I know my system is ok. On a side note what Anti-Virus is best for Macs?
