Just received email from Comcast and they said I should download the new Norton Security Suite which is free to Comcast users/subscribers. Do I need to do this? They said this replacees McAfee. I am using a Macbook Pro.
View 3 RepliesI used to use Norton security softwares for my windows laptop and it works perfect. However, I am not sure if it is good or necessary to use those softwares in MBP. Moreover, since my MBP is retina one, it only has 256GB SSD. So I wonder if I need to buy it.

My Quicken software suddenly stopped being able to connect to my bank via the Internet yesterday, giving the error message "Could not establish Internet connection with . . . check your Internet connection" Quicken support said others had been reporting the same problem recently, and it seemed to have something to do with Norton Antivirus. I uninstalled my "Symantec Solutions"/ "Norton Internet Security for Mac" applications (Norton Antivirus, Norton Firewall, Norton Confidential, LiveUpdate, and Symantec Scheduler) and the problem disappeared. I then contacted Symantec/Norton support and learned that they sent out an automatic "LiveUpdate" to their software this week that replaced everyone's working copy of "Norton Firewall" with a defective Version 4.1.0 that blocks connection to the Quicken server (and perhaps other programs?) unless the "Application Blocking" setting is manually turned off. Symantec says a patch to correct the problem will be released through "LiveUpdate" soon.

I am using Comcast as the internet provider for my computer.They recently sent an email saying they highly recommended downloading Norton Internet Security for Mac [Norton 360 Technology].They are offering this Security package at no charge.The reason they say they are offering this is because their "Constant Guard" has identified my computer as possibly being infected with a bot.I am fearful of installling this if it will "mess up" anything already on my iMac.

When I was downloading the norton security suite, there was some problems with certain files not being "properly downloaded". Now I can't access any app or program that uses internet access. I've tried deleting and wiping the Notron program using the systemac uninstall.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running a virus/addware/etc. Scan on my Macbook, with Norton (yes I know some of you hate Norton but thats what I got back in the day so its what I'm using) and the scan keeps stopping about half an inch from completion and just sitting there. The computers fans start to run like its working too hard or something and it will not go any further. It has stopped with around 49946 files left three times in a row now. What's going on? I have tried to delete the file it keeps stopping on then it just stops in the next in line. I just got Leopard and don't want to install until I know my system is ok. On a side note what Anti-Virus is best for Macs?

Now I am using my 3 year old macbook for this. It's the mid 2007 one with C2D 2.0 ghz, 2.0gb RAM, 160GB, 950 gma. But as you can probably guess already, it really sucks When i have more than 10 or 12 tracks playing, the system starts hoggin a bit which is not very handy when trying to record stuff right.
So when Arrendale arrives I want to buy a MBP. Are there any Ableton users here that can tell me by experience which MBP would be suited for me?I also do the casual browsing, itunes stuff and some light photoshop and illustrator work, so it's mainly for Ableton.

Are there any improvements using the 9600 over the 9400 when using photoshop or illustrator? I always use the 9400 on my mbp, with the 9600 the fans start to spin really soon, it's so annoying trying to focus on your work with this thing blowing like an airbus.

Are there any programs that clear out a mac for what I used to use in windows, like the temp folder, unused programs, caches, cookies, etc. For some reason my mac has been acting a lot slower with the color pinwheel of lag coming in more and more, I only got it in October and i rarely have more than four programs open at a time.

I received my copy of Snow Leopard and I would like to do a fresh install. However, in doing this, I will lose my copy of Norton Antivirus that I downloaded from my college. I cannot get another copy of this until January as I am not currently a student. Is there a way I can save this program so that I can do a fresh install versus simply upgrading?

She has an iBook g3, 10.3 Panther, 500mhz, 128MB RAM, 10 or 20 GB hard drive...
She really wants to use AIM on her laptop. My question for this is, has AOL come out with a download that supports Panther for IMing? I downloaded the latest release of their beta release for AIM for Mac, until I noticed it was for 10.4.9 or later.
Or... is iChat a better to use with Panther?
And now my next question is... she needs an office suite. Is there an iWork version that will work with Panther... or a Microsoft Office Suite for Panther? Or does [URL] have their suite for Macs too... I looked on their website and they do have a version... but I wasn't sure if it was compatible with her laptop.
I have tried finding disks to stick Tiger on her laptop... but I can't seem to find anything. Another bad thing about it is that she had no restore disks come with the laptop when she bought it off eBay... so if I did something and something gets stuck... I wouldn't be able to revert back.
