I am new to the mac world, I've always had a windows before. Well, I just installed XP on my macbook, and was wondering if the "Parallels Internet Security powered by Kaspersky" is secure enough for my pc. I don't want to be getting viruses on my pc, so I was wondering if that security is strong enough, or if you would recommend getting a different internet security?
View 2 RepliesI am running OS X10.4.11 on my 800 Mhz PowerPC G4 iMac. I have had a dialog box pop up whenever I open safari or firefox after starting my computer. It may also appear if I quit the browsers and reopen them but not always. Also once I close the box I usually do not see again until re starting or reopening. I believe that it some kind of bug that is causing the browser to run slow at downloading letting pop up ads come up even though I have the block up for pop ups and it is possible that it is redirecting my browsers to other sites.
I am unsure as this usually happens when I am searching on google. This what is in the dialog box Windows Internet Security. Your browser is under threat of infection Windows requires your permission to install online protection tool:

I have done a little online research and have tried force quitting the browsers to kill it and downloaded a free trial of MacScan which took several hours to run and told me it found tracking cookies and spyware. I followed the instructions to isolate and remove them which left a folder on my desktop titled isolated items which I then threw into the trash and secured empty trash on it for good measure.
i am having alot of trouble with parallels, the internet is not working in it, i am using airport to a d-link router, i used to use bootcamp, but opted not to because well this will sound stupid, because i don't have an apple keyboard, and when i boot with bootcamp and xp installed it always goes to windows, my mac mini doesn't recognize my option key i guess
anyway, i have xp running in parallels, no internet works, i have web sharing turned on in sharing, also have windows sharing on. anyway I can't seem to get on the internet in windows, and as weird as this is, i NEED to download some music for my dad but the company he's buying from will only do it if he has xp and windows media player. they could send him the cd's, but it will cost him 15$ more or something ridiculous, my dad said he would buy me some ipod games off itunes if i do this for him. SO THAT BEING SAID: once you guys help me get onto the internet, how will i get them to his mac? email could be tideous, can i burn a cd in parallels?
before you tell me to go use bootcamp (which i could because i do have access to an apple keyboard thats on my moms and dads comp) BUT i tried after my attempt failed with parallels, and it said it couldn't partition for some reason!?! I went to DU and repaired it and its smart verified ect and it said it was repaired but it still won't, it says i need to repair it.
Does anyone know whether the free virtual machine images Microsoft offers developers to test older versions of Internet Explorer will run in Parallels or Fusion?
View 3 Replies View RelatedBeen searching and can't find the answer here. I setup Bootcamp last week and had internet connection and everything working fine. I've setup Parallels now as well and I am connecting to the Bootcamp partition with this via OS X.
So, everything is working well, I can view my local websites on Leopard via Parallels, the only thing that has stopped working is my wireless internet connection in windows.
My only guess is the Bootcamp is now connecting to everything via my OS X connections, but not sure. Does anyone know how to set the wireless internet up again?
I installed parallels in my macbook and I have the game Red Alert 3 installed in windows in the parallels. I can see that i'm connected to the network in windows and the mac and i can access the internet in both. We have 3 computers in the network, two are PC's and one is the macbook. When the PC creates a game in the same network, the other PC can see the game and join it. But the mac, which is connected to the same network, can't see the game and cannot join. How can I fix this network problem?

Was working fine for many months (except for the 27 vertical lines but won't bore you with that), I bought a powered usb2 hub to power a usb hard-drive, when connecting the hub after a few minutes the Internet connection stopped and does so any time I connect the hub, now without the hub being connected the internet stops and starts every few minutes making it impossible to do any work. Other macs in the house are unaffected (s I'm having to write this on a minimac). Has something damaged the imac for good ?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have Parallels 3 installed, mostly to run MS Money. Last night I installed Snow Leopard, unaware that Parallels 3 is not compatible. It appears that I need to go out and buy Parallels 4 as that will work with Snow Leopard.
My question is will all my data within Windows remain if I install 4 or will it be a completely new Windows? And if so, how do I go in and retrieve my MS Money data as I can no longer access it with Parallels 3.
I have just bought my first Macbook and am enjoying the experience but am slightly nervous as I am used to using a PC and getting bombarded by email about viruses, trojans, spyware, malware etc and having to purchase and continually update my security. Now here I am on a Mac with apparently no security to speak of other than the firewall in my Netgear router...... I have heard some say "Macs don't get viruses!!! or Malware". Can someone who is a true Mac expert give me some decent advise? I am happy to buy McAfee or Norton but which is best.

It detected (nd removed then) flashback although I have OS X.7. But every time I start the computer, the virus is detected by the removal tool again...However, all other anti-virus programmes are detecting no threat. i have also installed the malware removal app from apple. So I definitely do not understand why the Kaspersky tool is still detecting the virus.

I was using Norton Anti-Virus for some time, with no problems. Decided to try the suite of programs under Intego Internet Security. All Hell broke loose. First, SuperDuper could not back up - it spent eight hours on repairing permissions until I stopped it. I then repaired permissions through Disk Utility, and it took twelve hours. Safari started stalling and freezing. Every time I clicked, I got a spinning ball. It didn't matter whether I tried to click on a link, scroll, or anhy other action. It would hang, and eventually load, but it was so bad, I started using Firefox, which had no problems. Intego did not have the answer, except to agree that if Intego was the only change made, it had to be the culprit. I did some research online, and found a posting which mentioned turning off the Real-Time Scanner in order to repair permissions. The minute I disabled it, repairing permissions went quickly, SuperDuper backed up in record time, and Safari went back to normal. Although Intego has stated that all virus software interferes with repairing permissions, I have never had an issue under Norton. With this program installed, it means I have to deactivate the scanner every few nights when SuperDuper is scheduled, and when I want to repair permissions. That wouldn't be the worst thing, if it were not for the fact that Safari bombs every time the scanner is on. Has anyone had any experience with this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy Quicken software suddenly stopped being able to connect to my bank via the Internet yesterday, giving the error message "Could not establish Internet connection with . . . check your Internet connection" Quicken support said others had been reporting the same problem recently, and it seemed to have something to do with Norton Antivirus. I uninstalled my "Symantec Solutions"/ "Norton Internet Security for Mac" applications (Norton Antivirus, Norton Firewall, Norton Confidential, LiveUpdate, and Symantec Scheduler) and the problem disappeared. I then contacted Symantec/Norton support and learned that they sent out an automatic "LiveUpdate" to their software this week that replaced everyone's working copy of "Norton Firewall" with a defective Version 4.1.0 that blocks connection to the Quicken server (and perhaps other programs?) unless the "Application Blocking" setting is manually turned off. Symantec says a patch to correct the problem will be released through "LiveUpdate" soon.

Starting this morning, I lost my internet connectivity in both Firefox and Safari (OSX 10.5.8 on my Macbook pro) The odd thing is, that using my parallels installation of XP, I'm able to access the internet without a problem, that's how I'm making this post. I don't have any proxies set up either in firefox or the network preferences under OSX or XP. I'm able to connect to and access all files on the network, I just can't get to the internet. This has really got me baffled. I ran network utility and got 100% packet loss, and it's fine under XP. Any ideas? I am having problems connecting to the internet using Internet Explorer in Parallels. I can connect to the internet with no problem using Fire Fox in Parallels but I get a message that IE cannot connect to the internet when I try using IE. I specifically need IE as the website that I am working with says only IE can be used and not Firefox, Safari, etc. That is the only reason I am using Parallels instead of Mac side. Site specifically states it needs IE 6 or higher so I can't use the Mac side. Any ideas why Firefox will connect and not Internet Explorer?

I burned numerous dvd's with my old Toshiba laptop for all of my videos and such with Windows XP. Now after my Toshiba crapped out and I switched to a Mac I was wondering why when I put the DVD into the laptop (MacBook Pro Intel processor) why I can only see the name of the dvd and not the contents. I hope someone can help me since I hate having to boot up Windows in Parallels and then play using Windows or drag it to my mac partition since this takes time and I just really hate having to see Windows load on my Mac. Anyones help is greatly appreciated.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to set up a Parallels 4 VM for a Windows 7 x64 Build 7000 boot camp partition, but parallels tools will not install. Half way through the process, a windows unsigned driver security box pops up, and when I tell it to install anyway, it still rolls back the installation process and I get the message "An error has occured while installing parallels tools, click OK to restart your computer and try again." or something to that effect. I have tried this about 15 times, and I have tried uninstalling/deleting the VM and re-creating the VM to no avail.
What I want to know: Is there a way to manually install Parallels Tools while running in the boot camp partition, just like installing any other application? I want to install it outside of Parallels, since for some reason it keeps screwing itself up when trying to set up the drivers as a VM.
I was able to get Windows Vista 64 running on my 17" MBP, it is pretty slick. I set aside 32 GB for Windows, ran the install, loaded all the appropriate Boot Camp drivers and everything is working perfectly in Windows. I boot back to OS X to attempt to configure Parallels...
So I fired up Parallels and follow the guided instructions. However, when I get to step 2 Im not sure what I should be doing. I already have Windows on its own partition, but Parallels is asking me for a CD/DVD image. Im a little leery of putting the Win disc back in, I dont want Parallels to always want to boot from the disc. how do I tell Parallels to load Windows as a Virtual Machine off of the Boot Camp partition?
The partition Boot Camp created now appears on my Desktop in OS X as Untitled, I can not, for the life of me, figure out how to change that. If I eject that volume will I still be able to Boot to Windows? Will Parallel still work?
I recently installed Windows vista using going through parallels because my bootcamp failed a while ago. This partition also acts as my bootcamp. Well The internet on parallels works fine because it is using osx network, but when i boot into bootcamp the network drivers seem to be missing. I cant figure it out, but it says the ethernet and network drivers are not there. I cant find the drivers on the internet anywhere and when i use the vista disk i have it still does not want to install them.
