I've heard that there's a virus being spread via fake Adobe updates. I'm getting a notice to install Adobe Reader version 9.5.1. How do I know wether this is legit?

I have Flash Player set to update automatically.
For the last month or so I've been getting pop up messages on my system that I have to update Flash Payer.
I click the link, download the installation dmg, double click the installer, 4/5ths of the way through it says it can't complete the operation. (I close all browsers etc. )
Google Chrome is running the latest version of Flash as it does it automatically (v14), but Safari and presumably anything else that uses Flash is running v13.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIm going to throw out a scenario and see if anyone sees flaw in my logic.I first will mention that I will stick with console gaming and wont play games on the imac, although I thought in 07 there was a youtube video of someone playing crysis on a 2600GT imac (im not sure what the real graphics card was or if thats even a real one). I will be editing photos using aperture or some other photo editor, running Vuze nonstop, 12 tab browsing, and also probably watching a movie. My G5 ALS imac did that with about 3 tab browsing pretty easy. Also it wasnt editing photos. ANYWAYS. Amazon has the i5 for 1972.98 and applecare for 135.99 for a total of 2108.97

I assume the biggest advantage would be for running a virtual windows machine within OSX and things like that.

The reason I ask about Kanex is because if the new iMacs dont come with a great graphics card, I am thinking of buying the lower end imac and connecting my pc to it for the gaming aspect and using the imac for everything else I do.. "Logic, photoshop bla bla" I just dont want to be stuck at 720p and I cant find any real confirmation if I output my radeon 4870 with HDMI if I can choose a crazy res the imac screen support over the Kanex adapter. I am hoping to god the new iMacs come with a 58XX series card but ya know how that goes.. All I play is Team Fort 2 which should be out for mac soon.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was using my mac the other day and the screen went to static real quick then gave some code to shut down. SO I did HUGE mistake I am guessing. I have only 1 user with a password. When I enter my user password it goes to a blue screen for a minute then comes back and ask for my password again. Before I crashed it was asking for permission to use fonts from my external hard drive ??? not sure why.But I figured I would just reinstall my os x and be ok... not really worried about my info on the computer everything is backed up. However when i restarted and held down the c key while it started with the os disc inserted... I came back 9 hours later and it was still the white screen with the spinning sun thingie.... like it was still loading

The software, labeled Mac OS X 10.5.4 build 9E6, weighed in at 55 megabyte -- just a fraction of the size of the recently released Mac OS X 10.5.3 Update's massive 420 megabyte package.
People familiar with the software say Apple has indicated to developers that there are presently no known issues with update, which address issues with iCal, digital camera decoding support, LEAP connections via AirPort, and sometimes missing HTTP headers.

After the flashback malware last week and the update from Apple to get rid of the trojan, Adobe is asking for another update to there software. Is this ok to download or are we asking for more trouble. My computer was affected last week and with the removal tool it was fixed. I just hate the thought of another version. I received an update request for a new version of the Adobe Flash player this morning. I accepted it and the installation seemed to work fine. The only special was that the last 5% of the installation took some minutes to install.
Minutes later the system (MAC OS Lion) sent a warning that my startup disk is nearly full. The disk had about 150GB free disk space. When I checked it with the finder my disk space was about 350 MB and declining. I disconnected the MacBook from the internet and the the declining of the available disk size stopped.
If I check the disk information (using the finder) of the harddrive and it showed only 350MB as free. If I check the size of the folders on the top layer and add them together I should still have about 150GB of free disk space.

Every time I attempt to watch a video or Netflix, my player won't work and tell me to download the new version. I do so, and restart the browser and they tell me the same thing. I have tried deleting the old versions and emptying the trash, I have tried restarting my computer, I have no firewall up. Nothing will make them work.

Was having Adobe shockwave/flash problems while running Chrome, which is not completely unheard of. Restarted my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.6.8), which included a software update (though I'm not sure exactly what programs were updated). Now Chrome will not run at all. Every time I start, it crashes immediately. Have tried SEVERAL times to trash/download it, but the same version seems to keep appearing in my Applications folder. Have also tried trashing the Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome folder to no avail. Appears back in its place after dragging it to the trash.
In addition, Adobe flash videos for Safari and Firefox (which I just downloaded as a tester) also will not work. Each attempt to update Adobe Flash also ends in a crash. And now I've discovered the same for everything Microsoft (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). The program shuts down and the Microsoft error message appears breifly, followed by the same crash "Mircrosoft Word Error Reporting Quit Unexpectedly" box. Again, have tried several times to download Chrome & Adobe Flash to no avail. All system updates have been made to date. What to do next?

I'm on a Mac OS X, version 10.6.3. Processor 2.66 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo. Memory: 2 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. I'm a graphic designer so I always have Photoshop CS4 & InDesign CS4 running simultaneously 8 hours a day. (Firefox 3.6.3 is also running). Never had a problem until recently - the screen would suddenly turn WHITE, or BLUE w/ VERTICAL STRIPES. Then I have to reboot.
I had 3 crashes today. I did notice when I was scrolling w/ my (sorta old & ghetto Kensington mouse) that it froze the iMac twice. IS THERE A PATCH, OR SOFTWARE UPDATE FOR THIS? Anyone else having similar crashes?
i am having trouble printing to PDF from any program. i have an imac (OS X, version 10.4.11) and anytime i try to print to pdf the job starts to spool, and then the print job is stopped (it says "jobs stopped"). anytime i press the "start jobs" button it just stops the job again. do i need to download a new driver?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have 2 iMac G5's both running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.Suddenly one decided that it woud not allow Photoshop 9 (CS1) to work so I tried to reinstall. It seems to reinstall but will still not save files. Tried to reinstall Photoshop CS2, and the whole CS2 suite and the discs will not load at all. I have tested the disc in the other iMac and it's fine. I have tried all the obvious repair routes - disc utility, restarting from the system CD, creating a new user, software updates, but still cannot get any of teh Adobe sofatware to reinstall properly.

But she doesn't edit video, watch movies, play games on her Mac. And her CS3 work seems not too heavy, since it still works well on a 6-year old dual G5 system. But I understand Snow Leopard has support for GPU acceleration. For graphic design work, are the GT130 or ATI 4850 worth the upgrade price over the GT120?
