IMac :: Kanex Adapter Using PC With HDMI - Graphic Card - Real Confirmation?
Jun 3, 2010
I play PC games and I LOVE mac os.... I have a macbook pro right now which I am selling. The reason I ask about Kanex is because if the new iMacs dont come with a great graphics card, I am thinking of buying the lower end imac and connecting my pc to it for the gaming aspect and using the imac for everything else I do.. "Logic, photoshop bla bla" I just dont want to be stuck at 720p and I cant find any real confirmation if I output my radeon 4870 with HDMI if I can choose a crazy res the imac screen support over the Kanex adapter. I am hoping to god the new iMacs come with a 58XX series card but ya know how that goes.. All I play is Team Fort 2 which should be out for mac soon.
How certain are we that (physical?) interference between the airport card/wifi and the graphics card can be cured with a download, and not actual hardware fix/repair? I mean, I know technology is advancing rapidly, but I'm not sure I can believe that a download can solve the issue that the 4850s are experiencing.
I have a kanex thunderbolt to HDMI cable that I use to connect to my TV. I recently updated my Mac OS X to 10.7.4. I am not sure if that is the reason, but I can no longer seem to connect. It is being detected by my TV, but the screen isn't showing up.
When I connect, the laptop screen goes blue and then returns to normal and the TV goes from no input signal to a black screen, but that's it. I have tried restarting, shutting down and resetting the PRAM/NVRAM. I called Apple support and they have set me up with an appointment at an Apple Store later this week.

Im using a macbook pro right now but i want to play xbox and ps3 games on an external display... i know that this adapter--> [URL] has worked great with the imac... do u guys think it will work with the 27" ACD? if not... what would be a way to hook up an xbox or ps3 to this new awesome dispaly?
Im going to throw out a scenario and see if anyone sees flaw in my logic.I first will mention that I will stick with console gaming and wont play games on the imac, although I thought in 07 there was a youtube video of someone playing crysis on a 2600GT imac (im not sure what the real graphics card was or if thats even a real one). I will be editing photos using aperture or some other photo editor, running Vuze nonstop, 12 tab browsing, and also probably watching a movie. My G5 ALS imac did that with about 3 tab browsing pretty easy. Also it wasnt editing photos. ANYWAYS. Amazon has the i5 for 1972.98 and applecare for 135.99 for a total of 2108.97
We are planning to replace a 4yr old PC with a iMac for a family use.My husband is interested in music, iTunes, Garage Band and internet browsing.I'm doing some lite photo editing and interessted in coping our DVD collection and making digital copies that can be played on the iPhone and iPad (wanting quickest conversion time) - our 6yr old son just wants to play a few educational games at this point in his life.My husband thinks that the "refubished" 21.5" w/ 3.06GHz C2D, 4GB of memory, 1TB hard drive and ATI 4670 graphics card with 256MB would meet our needs at $1,299.00
it seems to me, that the Geforce Gt 120 (ealy 20009 Imac) is in fact an MXM III,M76XT+/256MB,GDDR3 Card, witch means, its an Mobility Radeon2600XT from the previous Imacs, just on an MXM III socle ( it would get better benchmarks because of cooling an higher clocks).
Will i have any problems running Final Cut Pro with these cinfigurations on my iMac 2009?3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 8GB Memory 1.0TB Serial ATA Drive ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB Is this "ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB" graphic card good to run FCP?
I have a 2011 imac 21" and a new 42" LG led tv....I recently purchased a mini displayport to hdmi cable from cablesson and connected them up but I'm getting no response at all from either the tv or the imac.
My sd card adapter is not recognized on my imac with os 10.7.3. I cannot see where I can download the photos in iphoto. How can I find out if recognized by computer
Info: iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3), sd card adapter not recognized in
Tell me if it makes sense. Since the current MiniDisplay Port adapters are NOT bidirectional and we need a bidirectional cable to make the PS3 display on the iMac, I was wondering if I purchased that new bidirectional cable by Belkin that it is advertised to let you use your iMac's screen with your MacBook Pro and then buy a female minidisplay port to female HDMI.
Would that work? It makes sense right?
Where can I find a FEMALE MiniDisplay Port to FEMALE HDMI adapter? I have searched and can't seem to find one.
So I just bought the new kanex xd and once I plugged in PS3 I could not figure out why it wouldn't work so I gave up and tried my 360 and it worked great. With the ps3 I even reset the video by holding down the power button until it beeps twice. I don't know what else to do. Can anybody tell me how they ran through setting up their ps3?
I would like to upgrade my 17" Powerbook G4 to wireless n, but I'd like to upgrade the internal airport extreme card instead of using a PC Card adapter.
Are there any options for this? Will this airport extreme card from early model MBPs work?

I have been having problems with sometimes the computer turning on but getting no output from the graphics card. This seems to only happen about half the time it boots up, otherwise it appears normal. Sometimes it totally fails to wake up from sleep. I have been able to use Remote Desktop to gain access and have taken a screenshot of graphics card in about this mac when it has played up. It is a 2008 mac pro with 10.5.8. The graphics card is a ATI Radeon HD 2600.
I'm surprised that the Mac Mini comes with an HDMI-DVI adapter and not a MiniDisplayPort-DVI adapter. The latter would allow you to use monitors that support all resolutions the Mini can produce, whereas the former is limited to 1920-by-1200. Even if you use a monitor within the bounds of 1920-by-1200 resolution, you would need to get a MDP-DVI adapter to use a TV at the same time.
The ONLY logical reason that exists for Apple to do this is that they will make more money this way.
More people will have to buy the MDP-DVI adapter than the other way around. If people merely want to use a TV, they will have to buy an HDMI cable AND a MDP-DVI adapter, leaving the current adapter sitting in a drawer, whereas if Apple had supplied a MDP-DVI adapter, the person would probably just buy an HDMI cable, and probably not from Apple.
I bought an iMac a couple of years ago and liked it so much I bought a Macbook Pro a week or so ago. I downloaded a tv series from iTunes last night and took the adapter from the iMac and hooked up the Macbook to the tv to watch the show> Well the show plays on the laptop monitor, but the only thing that shows up on the tv is the wallpaper that comes installed on the Macbook (the galaxy thing).

Currently with Mac Pro Harpertown 2600xt with 20" ACD, and i want a new 24"LED ACD, Gaming is not main topic for this system (Where i have PS3 , 360 , Wii and a i7+9800GX2 rig)but i want a decent graphic card for my master degree thesis (Working in GPGPU field), GTX285 in june seem good choice for me . it seem GTX285 mac edition doesn't have mini DP so that make me hard to decide.
if I choose 24"LED, I can't use GTX285 or other card in future from Nvidia
if I choose GTX285 I can't use *Apple* display (when i think apple will release only MDP port display)
I've got Power MAC G4 quicksilver 867MHz 1GB RAM and geforce 2MX graphic card... and that's my question.. could I change my card for a geforce 5200FX from a Power MAC G5 without any trouble and modifications?
I am trying to connect my Mac Book Pro to HD tv with a HDMI cable. I bought the cable at the apple store. When I plug it in and I turn tv to HDMI, the screen on my laptop turns blue for a few seconds and then returns to home screen. How do I get my computer to show up on my tv?
