View 3 RepliesI've heard that there's a virus being spread via fake Adobe updates. I'm getting a notice to install Adobe Reader version 9.5.1. How do I know wether this is legit?

Is there any way to set up one of my external drives to clone the behavior of my main drive? For example, I have a mac mini with 2 main drives, and I have 3 external HDs (one of which is for Time Machine). However, Time Machine is a bit annoying to have on all the time, so I am looking for a different option.
Here's what I need to do: I use one of my main HDs as my music drive (I'm a musician). I end up creating my music projects there and then back them up by manually transfering them to my xHDs. This process takes a long time because the files are huge and I don't do it after every project, so I move over a lot of GBs when I do this.
Is there any way to set things up where when I create a project (or any file) in my main HD that it automatically copies in real time to one of my xHDs?

I guess coolbook could do it, but it still doesn't support ix Macs.I would like to see how much turbo frequency scales the cores to 2.9 Ghz.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI can't risk data storage in the clouds due to the possibility (however remote) that someone's personal info might get compromised. Nor can I risk the cloud being down and not being able to access files/date when needed (which can sometimes be at the strangest of times).I have several iMacs integrated wirelessly. Every time we (I) update a doc, it needs to be manually transferred to other computers for staff who will need it. That's no big deal. What is worrisome is if a recent version of a doc were to get corrupted due to a HD failure, a corruption on an iMac, or whatever else. We all have TM and Super Duper clones that are scheduled regularly. What I'd like to be able to do is simultaneously have docs backed up on an external in real time, as they are saved on an internal.Unless I'm missing something I can't find, it seems the only way to do this is to save to the HD, and then save to an external. That seems like a lot of manual redundancy, and invites forgetfulness. So all being said, is there an Apple Script out there anyone is aware of that would tell the iMac to automatically save a copy of every file that is modified to an external, so that the external is a "current" version of the internal for data retrieval purposes?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI updated with the latest Lion patch yesterday and since then Entourage has either hung or taken a very long time to update from our 2003 Exchange server (I have MS Office 2011 but as you're probably aware, there are issues integrating with a 2003 Exchange server). how this might be fixed, short of updating both our 2003 Windows Server to Windows Server 2008 x64 and Exchange to 2010 so I (the only Mac user out of 85 staff) can use Outlook 2011?

Ever since I updated to 10.6.1 I've had the following problems:
- Time Machine does not work at all with my Time Capsule. When it attempts to back up my data, Time Machine gets hung up with a status of "Making backup disk available..." and the icon in the menu bar just spins forever (the status appears in the menu bar icon's menu). I also cannot enter Time Machine; it gets hung trying to connect to the Time Capsule and I have to cancel it. Finder then takes up 100% CPU and I have to power down by holding in the power button (shutting down from the Apple menu doesn't work).
- I store my iTunes library in a folder called Music under the Data folder on the Time Capsule. When I open iTunes, it prompts me to choose my iTunes library. When I do, it starts to load the list of albums, then iTunes locks up and I must force quit it. This also causes my machine to not be able to shut down or restart from the Apple menu.
Oddly enough I can still access the Data folder from Finder with no issues. I just wanted to put this out there in case other people are having similar problems. It's pretty frustrating as all this worked fine before the 10.6.1 update.
I promise to do my best :-)Could someone help me understand the difference between
1. An iMac 27" ( the computer ), a keyboard, a trackpad etc
2. An Apple screen 27" plus the most advanced MacBook Pro
As a matter of fact, I live on board an expedition vehicle, and mainly visiting the middle of nowhere. [URL]..How would I do the updates of a heavy iMac computer ?with the MacBook pro, I could go "to town" from time to time, and upgrade/update.
Regarding the work I do with my photos, is there a big difference between 1. and 2.ps that question might be strange (or stupid ) the fact is that, I don't have an Apple Store as a neighbor
RealPlayer downloader pops up and download stuff randomly everytime I visit a page on firefox! How can I disable it?
This didn't happen to me when using Windows.
I started a transfer of a large file, but it did not finish, but the DMG file is showing me the 7 GB Full Size of the Finished file! But I know that the file stopped midway and only transferred half of it, around 3.5 GB. Is there any way to see in the Finder / Inspector the real size of this file which should only be 3.5 GB and not the 7 GB it is displaying in the Inspector?

I have no programs running and all I'm doing is lightly browsing the web (craigslist, macrumors, gamefaqs). My temps are 42C and approx. 1801rpm. I think this is normal, but my palmrest really warms up. Not to the point I can not use the notebook...just wondering if this is normal...

e.g. I have XP running in Fusion in SL. Is there anything that VMware might be doing to XP that would allow someone to realize (while connecting to them in XP) that I am in an OSX environment?
I have got a iMac 2011 27inch i5 2.7GHZ 4Gb RAM, i was wondering what is the average consumption should be with the system memory and how much on average should be free? Because mine used to have 2.6GB free and now my Imac is running more slowly and is about 1.38GB free.

Hi, ever since the last update for time capsule, I have been getting really poor reception and sometimes it says I have full bars of reception and then can't load any pages. It's really annoying, does anyone know anything I can do? Is there a way I can downgrade to the previous firmware?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI work a lot with video, DVD's, etc. This work relies heavily upon the long-time, established standard when it comes to file sizes; that is, that noble of all numbers, 1024.
Sadly, it appears that some computer makers, hard drive manufacturers, and even some ISP's, no longer have respect for the decades-old standard of 1024, upon which the computer industry was built. Thus, to earn a higher profit, and to pretend to offer more than they really are, they have chosen to use 1000, instead of 1024, as their unit of measurement. It makes Internet speeds appear faster than they really are; it makes hard drives seem bigger than they really are; etc. To me, it is plain old greed and deception.
For someone involved with video, where accurate measurements are required, this modern usage of 1000 presents a problem.
Thus, I am looking for a program which will allow me to display REAL file sizes in the Finder -- which relies upon 1024k/Kb, 1024Kb/Mb, 1024Mb/Gb, etc. -- rather than the more modern approach of 1000 units/whatever.
I was hoping that a program like MacPilot, or a similar app, might possess this tweaking feature, but I have been unable to find one to date.
The only thing that I can do for now is to use a program like MediaInfo, which is a halfway point, because I actually want ALL of my files on my hard drives to display the file size based upon 1024, and NOT upon 1000.
Assuming all cores are maxed out, how would the performance of the virtual cores stack up against physical cores (say, in the instance of a i7-620m)?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAccording to Activity Monitor, the accursed "mds" process is taking up 127.32M of Real Memory, more than kernel_task at 114MB.
I rarely use Spotlight, but it and Dashboard have managed to use up most of my remaining 1GB of RAM. Very disappointing so far.
Dashboard widgets take up an average of about 200MB of Virtual Memory, but I'm hoping those numbers are skewed due to some creative threading.
I wish you could easily turn these guys on and off.
On a related topic, my VM Size is at 9.91 GB. I should logically have at least that much free on my disk, correct?
I bit the bullet and upgraded from a Rev A 1.6GHz 80GB HDD MBA - to a Rev B 1.86GHz 128GB SSD MBA. I wanted to post my observations on what it's like to upgrade - I know many Rev A owners have - or are thinking about - upgrading to Rev B. In this post/comparison, I refer to "Rev A" and "Rev B". The Rev A is my older 1.6GHz 80GB HDD MBA. The Rev B is my new 1.86GHz 128GB SSD MBA
Caveat - Unlike some (but not all!) Rev A MBA owners, I love my Rev A MBA. I've had zero problems with it. It runs cool and I have not experienced any core shut downs. It would heat up when most laptops normally heat up and the fans would kick. It would cool down quickly when I moved on to something else. With video it never stuttered... Perhaps my Rev A has run so nicely because I don't ask a lot of it. It is a second Mac to my Mac Pro - I use it primarily for email, word processing, iTunes movies and web surfing - on the couch and on the road. It has REALLY been a great laptop and I have nothing bad to say about it...................
Just received the latest Mac Mini with 320gb hard drive option. When I check "About this Mac", it shows a max capacity of 298.09gb. I feel ripped for 22gb. Anyone know what gives?

I have a mid 2010 MacBook Pro, just that you guys know. For my programming work with the robot (C/Assembler) I will need either Windows or a Linux OS. This is why I'm asking. I really hate Windows and I don't want to install that and besides, Linux is a much better option for compiling my code, etc..Should I use a virtual machine or should I install Linux (Ubuntu) on another partition of my internal HDD.
I will need to install quite a lot of stuff and I'm not sure whether my 4GB of RAM will be enough to run Ubuntu on top of Snow Leopard using a virtual machine. I will need to use another old computer or my parent's desktop for loading to compiled files onto the robot (my IR Tranceiver has a RS 232 connector). I have another old laptop which we commonly use as a 'tryout' computer, but for the most part I want my MacBook to be the computer I use because I cannot take that old (and really heavy) laptop with barely working batteries and super-laggy Win XP to school, where I will do a great deal of the work. So I definitely want Linux on my mac.The partition can be small, I will only need about 15-20GB of space (including the Linux).
