View 2 RepliesI forgot my admin password on my iMac recently and so i used the reboot with OS X snow leopard install disc to reset the keychain, but now on my login screen, it used to be just my account name, there is one called "Other" so i went into accounts in system preferences and tried to delete it but it isnt there?is really annoying me p.s. the "other account" isnt actually an account it says "Other" and when you click on it asks for your username and password...so i type in the admin accounts name and password (admin account is the only one on this computer), and it just opens up my admin account.
View 1 Replies View Relatedbasically i have an old imac computer which doesnt come up with cd and i forgot the password, I have read some tutorial that tells how to reset the password by:
holding down the command +s key when we hear the tone of imac at the startup and then insert some command line.
The issue with me is that i tried it in mnay ways but i cant get to the terminaleverytime at the startup i use apple+s key ,nothing happens ,it loads normally and gets to the login screen, keys seems to be fine what can be the issue and is it there any way to get to the terminal w/o having cd etc.

The Safari Reset option, does is clean and speed up the computer? Is it really necessary to buy a software to do the job, or the Safari Reset option is sufficient?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIt's happened twice this month - my CPU fans will suddenly rev up to 4,000 RPM, and iStatPro will show the CPU temperature as "--". The first time it happened, I was worried that the machine got too hot. The second time, I had just sat down at the computer in the morning... the top of it was hardly even warm.
Both times, after shutting down and rebooting the fans went back to normal, but the computer performed poorly in graphical tasks such as rendering and gaming until I do an SMC reset, which brings it back to normal.
I have an old school Indigo IMac. It was my uncle's and unfortunately he just passed away. I am attempting to install software but it wants the password. Obviously I cant ask my uncle. If I can not install my apps then this Mac will be worthless to me.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have created user accounts on my iMac for each of my kids. Whenever we try to login to my daughter's account, we see the standard 'galaxy' background, then a flash of gray, then the background again and then that process repeats over and over. The DVD Player app is running, but I cannot figure out a way to kill it or get out of the endless loop. Everytime she logs in, I end up having to hold the button on the back of the computer to shut it off, then restart everything.
Is there a way to sign in to her account without having all the applications launched that were running when she signed out? I think that might be the first step to fixing everything, but I can't figure out how to do that. Is there a preferences file I can kill? Or are there aliases in a folder somewhere that contain the items to be relaunched at startup? Her account is managed under parental controls.

I recently came across an old iMac G3 by a dumpster (It is perfectly functional, the fact that I found it by the dumpster has nothing to do with the problem). I brought it up to find out that every user created on the computer is password protected. I've been trying to get past it, but it's impossible. I can't afford an install CD, resetting the PRAM and the PRU doesn't do a thing, and Open Firmware is a pain. Is there any way to get into the iMac without having to buy a disc or go all around town trying to find the original owner so I can get his passwords?

I have about 20 imacs that we are doing a restore on.. my problem is that I have only 2 copies of the Applications DVD and System DVDs... I'd like to bundle a copy of each with each computer when I resell them.. but the Applications DVD is 4.75gb and is too big to fit on a standard DVD using Disk Copy. Is this software online available for download? Or is there a way to make copies of the System and Applications DVDs?Â

I've got a little problem with my iMac 24" 2.8 GHz Nvidia Geforce 8800GS 500GB. When I start it up, the fans start blowing at full speed. I checked the apple support page for support and found my problem with all the symptoms being correct. The support said I had to reset the SMC by shutting down the iMac, then removing the power cord and all the other one's, wait 15 seconds and then put the power cord and the other one's in respectively. I did this almost 10 times, but my iMac still won't stop making those annoying noises. Maybe it has to do with the SMC fancontrol app my brother installed lately.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have this iMac for slightly over two years and when I forst got it I thought it would be a good idea to have it start up a 6:55am each weeday. After about a week I changed my mind and went back into Power Saver and turned off the settings. Since then, I can't tget the machine to quit auto-starting at 6:55, 7:55 and even sometime 8:55. I have called Apple, taken it in to an Apple store, they even claim to have replaced the computer

So I contacted Apple this morning regarding the LCD Backlight Bleed on my iMac (24", early 2008, 2.8 ghz) They made me reset the PRAM, which I figured wouldn't work, and the issue is still there.
They say it'll have to go in for servicing, and I live nowhere near an Apple Store, so they gave me the location of the nearest London Drugs. Am I going to get the same quality of service as I would from an Apple Store? And what is the exact process that they use, do they just replace it with a new LCD?Also, he said that it will be covered under Applecare unless it is ruled as accidental damage, he said that much of the time, the issue is caused by pressure on the back of the case, and that if that was the case, it wouldn't be covered.I can't really see how this would cause it, and I haven't ever put any pressure or anything on the back, but i did buy the iMac used, what are the chances of this being ruled accidental damage?I have the bleed in all four corners of the screen, if that makes any difference.
2008 Mac Pro 2,1 10.7.4 Last week I upgraded my video card to a ATI Radeon 5770 to get better performace in Photoshop. This card was recommended for my machine by OWC. It came in a box with an Apple logo on it When I slid the card in I accidently knocked a heat sink that is right behind where this card goes. It fell off. Took the computer to an Apple center and they told me this was a crucial piece and that I needed to replace my whole logic board. So I got a new logic board. Â
Now the computer works fine, and video works fine, but on booting my HD / Expansion fan runs at about 2700rpm all the time. The Exhaust fan runs at 1500rpm all the time. According to iStat all my internal temps are fine. This fan problem is new. So I try to reset my SMC. The last step says "plug the computer back in, wait 5 seconds and then press the power button." However, as soon as I plug in the power cable my computer starts up, so I'm not sure I'm really completing the SMC reset process.Â
I've tried another power cable with the same results. I've tried plugging the cable into another power strip / outlet with the same result. I've tried booting with the SMC disabled (hold "d" on boot) and the fans run significantly faster than they do now, which leads me to believe that resetting my SMC would be helpful.Â
