IMac :: Can I Reset Power Saver Settings In A System
Jul 28, 2009
I have this iMac for slightly over two years and when I forst got it I thought it would be a good idea to have it start up a 6:55am each weeday. After about a week I changed my mind and went back into Power Saver and turned off the settings. Since then, I can't tget the machine to quit auto-starting at 6:55, 7:55 and even sometime 8:55. I have called Apple, taken it in to an Apple store, they even claim to have replaced the computer

I am new to Mac - having wished I had converted years ago - my new MacBook Pro is great. Mac makes Windows seem like living in the stone age, but I am rambling. I have found that it's possible to manually change graphic power settings within energy saver, but is there just that one setting? I would have hoped for an automatic change of settings depending if you are working on mains or battery. Unrelated, does a Mac have a delete key?

If I replace my mid-2007 iMac's internal HDD with an SSD, will Snow Leopard still present me with the "Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible" checkbox on the Energy Saver power settings screen? If so, do I tick it or not? I will still have an HDD for Time Machine connected via FW800.

A couple days ago after restarting my imac I was shocked to find that my personal preferences had been reset to default and that some programs were behaving like they had just been installed. Firefox for instance asked me to import settings from safari, after skipping importing i found that all my bookmarks and add-ons were gone.

I recently came across an old iMac G3 by a dumpster (It is perfectly functional, the fact that I found it by the dumpster has nothing to do with the problem). I brought it up to find out that every user created on the computer is password protected. I've been trying to get past it, but it's impossible. I can't afford an install CD, resetting the PRAM and the PRU doesn't do a thing, and Open Firmware is a pain. Is there any way to get into the iMac without having to buy a disc or go all around town trying to find the original owner so I can get his passwords?

I have a new issue with my Mac Pro (3,1 - 2008), it just popped up (and I don't think it was caused by 10.6.3, I remember this working correctly after it was installed)I have two monitors connected via DVI to a flashed XFX 4870. The 4870 has never given me any trouble.the Energy Saver settings, I usually set the machine to never sleep, and the displays to sleep after 5 minutes. This used to work great, never had any trouble with it, ever. Now, the displays don't go to sleep after 5 minutes, they just stay on with a screensaver.

I just noticed a small but very annoying change. I have the energy saver pane appear in the menu bar on my iBook. It used to be when I clicked the battery icon I could select Better Battery Life, Better Performance, or Normal from the drop down menu. I don't when this change happened, but I am now no longer able to select those from the icon, I have to open System Preference to change it. [URL]

I've got dual monitors up and running for the first time. With my workflow, I'll be working at one monitor for several hours and then the other for several hours. I'd like to have independent screen savers for each monitor so the one not being used won't get burn in, etc., but I don't see any way to do that.
Perhaps I'm answering my own question here, but I would suppose that if I'm in extended mode (which I'll be doing) it's really just one big screen, so there isn't a way to tell the other screen to start running a screen saver....and if I'm mirroring, they're both doing exactly the same thing. Those pieces of logic tell me that I can't do what I want to do.

I change my Energy Saver settings (Mavericks), but the changes do not remain. Once the display goes to sleep, the settings change back to other values (which aren't the same as the default settings). This happens even though I have the settings locked. Could some other utility be changing the settings? My Macbook Pro was imaged through my work - might they have set something up that can revert settings?
I've already tried trashing the com.apple.PowerManagement.plist file and restarting - that didn't solve the problem.

Well 10.5.6 has been so much fun and full of surprises - like a box of chocolates Gump would say. For some reason, the sleep function settings won't reset. I had my iMac set to sleep the HD after about an hour. I changed the setting to never, but it still wants to sleep. Never had any trouble like this before the update. My install is almost virgin as I had to reinstall because of the update. I don't have any add-ons running or anything like that. Can I delete the .plist file for these settings to start over?

I am unable to change "Energy Saver" settings in System Settings using Yosemite 10.10.1. In particular, I want to uncheck the "Put Hard Disks to Sleep" option.
I can click on the option and then click close. But when I go back into "Energy Saver" the checkbox is ticked again.
I have tried both an SMC and PRAM reset and the problem persists.

My girlfriend changed the user's name and the problems started (iMac wouldn't remeber system settings and denied access to some files and catalogs). When I wanted to fix the problem I probably made a mistake and changed the access settings of some files (finally even hard disk's settings). After this action my iMac doesn't start (the screen is white with the apple logo and nothing happens). Is there anybody who knows what to do now?

I put my i5 to sleep around midday, came home from work @ 4, and my iMac would not respond to keyboard, mouse, or power button mashing. My wife noted the power had gone out upon seeing the microwave clock. I checked the outlet (her Macbook was plugged into the other receptacle), and there's still power going to my machine.

My IMac crashes sometimes very suddenly, like in a power failure. It doesn't force quit or shut down, it just goes like somebody pulled the plug. It's usually possible to start it up again after 30minutes or an hour. The plug and lead seem to be fine. I tested it on another mac. The obvious suspicion would be overheating, but how can that be caused so suddenly (and how can I fix it)? It's an IMac Intel core duo, 20", 2 ghz, 2gb ram from 2006. I'm running Mac OS X (10.4.11) 2006.

My PowerMac G4 has an issue that has developed as of late where it goes into screen saver mode and fails to come back out of it. The mouse and keyboard are both unresponsive. Sometimes it goes back to the desktop and sometimes it doesn't. The only way to shut it off is to push and hold down on the power button. I have added an HP all in one printer to the computer.

so this has happened twice now in the past month, my mb is in screen saver mode and i wake it up to find that the color is off in the screen. meaning that the color settings changed and the screen has a swashed out blue tint to it. first time i restarted and all was good, second time i clicked on the preferences icon and then the screen went back to its normal setting. my normal setting is not the factory one but one of the ones that people said makes the screen look better.
so what gives, is the integrated chip dieing on me?
oh its a unibody that i got when they first came out, 2.0 processor one all factory

a MacBook Pro, Retina, mid 2012 running Yosemite 10.10.1...I've noticed that since upgrading to Yosemite, if I close the lid on my computer to put it to sleep and then leave it overnight, it is completely drained by morning. It used to burn through, MAYBE 5% overnight. All the power settings are set for no power usage, i.e., no power nap, no wake for network, etc. If I look in the system log, I see something that happens every hour while it's asleep. I've included an excerpt below.

Okay, so here is how my question comes about... I have already searched and could not find links to other threads..
I bought a G4 desktop from a guy on craigslist about a week ago and I want to upgrade from 10.3.9 to the newer 10.5. He has an administrative account on the computer and whenever I try and load the 10.5, it asks for his password. I called the guy wondering what his password was and he told me. I tried entering that in and it will not work. Now the guy will not answer his phone or his e-mail address. I know he was the original owner because of the information on the computer and the name on the business card he exchanged for mine.
I would really like to upgrade my OS but I need to know how to go about reseting the computer to erase 100% of everything on the computer. Can someone please help me, I am new to Mac and I don't really know what to do!!!

Today the IT department at my university set up my Early 2008 MBP to work with the library WiFi. While doing this they completely messed up my airport settings so now I cannot connect to my home network. Is there anyway I can reset the network settings to default like they way they were before? I am running Snow Leopard.
