Just received my 27" iMac i7. I've noticed that every few hours I need to lift the screen up, because the weight of the screen pulls it downward on it's hinge.
Does anyone else have this issue? What do I do to resolve it?
The black strip that covers the hinge on my mbp (the one beneath the MacBook Pro writing) is getting increasingly loose. It slides left and right and also makes clicking noises whenever the lid is opened / shut. Obviously this is a cosmetic annoyance, but as ever, this wasn't the cheapest of laptops so faults like this are quite annoying. Anyone else had similar issues? Also is there way of taking it off and repositiong it without having to take too much of the machine apart?

View 24 Replies View RelatedI got my Unibody MacBook the first day they were available, and since late December, the hinge has gotten stiffer and stiffer, making a cracking noise when I move it after it stays in one position for a few seconds.
I took it to the Genius Bar (covered under AppleCare) but the people there wouldn't do anything about it, saying it's within normal spec and classifying it as a "user perception issue." (The slightly condescending sound of that phrase is for another post.)
Has anyone attempted to lubricate the hinge in their laptop themselves? I removed all of the bottom paneling and looked at the hinge, but didn't see how to separate it from the case easily. Would it be a bad idea to try to squirt a little silicone lubricant into the hinge to see if that helps the issue? Is there another trick I could try.My mom has a Unibody Pro with a hinge that glides nice and smoothly and it's annoying mine is no longer working properly like this.
I currently sync my iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch on the XP box. My goals are to move all my songs, apps, movies/TV shows etc. over to my new mac. I want to stop using the XP machine all together.
In terms of steps. I'm thinking I need to do this:Ensure both XP and Mac are running the most current version of iTunes - if not upgrade them Sync and back-up each device one last time on the XP machine Transfer the data (via the apple FAQ above) Sync each device with the mac? Will the Mac recognize the devices just like the XP machine did? Will I need to transfer purchases from each device?
Ever since I upgraded to Lion, my imac loses its wifi connection when it sleeps.When i wake it up i have to always go up to the wifi icon on top right of screen and wait till it sees my network and then say connect.This never happened in snow leopard, seemed to stay connected.

I'm at day 13, so I want to bring it in to get it replaced, but my question is, will I lose all my settings? Can I back up my programs and everything to an external and just install them when I get the new replacement and it will be just like my old one?What about settings like my view settings in the finder and what not? How much will I have to redo.Also, I bought 16BG of third party ram. I will have to put back the old ram obviously, but I'm just wondering if there's anything I should know.

I just purchased a new iMac 24" 2009 Model. I also got a Wireless Mighty Mouse & Wireless keyboard. I have owned the system for 6 days and each day the Mighty Mouse and keyboard will lose connection and require me to hold the power button down on the imac to restart the system. I called apple and was told to do a "Option Command R P" Reset. This did not fix the problem... I then called them again and was told to format the system.. This did not fix the problem.. I replaced the batteries, turned bluetooth off on any near by devices changed my 802.11 freq to a different channel. It seems from information collected from other forums that this is effecting mainly the new alum 2009 imac...I am starting to think this is now hardware. Also something I noticed.. Brand new FRESH Energizer Ultimate Batteries $25. I put them into the mighty mouse. 1 day later iStat reports the mouse is at 73%!! thats a big drop in 1 day
View 24 Replies View RelatedI have a mac desktop. Just recently, possible since an upgrade to mavericks, it loses its ability to use wifi its clearly recognises as connected. The temporary solution I have involves opening the network and running wifi diagnostics. It always comes back and says it is all fine but it fixes it. ie the act of running diagnostics resolves the problem. Â
Happens every 10 mins or so when using and is now becoming a sore point.Â
I am not even slightly technical. I turn on, I type, I turn off.
I searched the forums but can't seem to find a definitive answer in regards to having a loose hinge on the i7.
I picked mine up yesterday and it seems a little too lose for my liking. It stays in place when it is not touched, but if you push with one finger on the bottom it will switch quite easily.
Is this how they make the hinges now or is mine too loose and should be exhanged? I don't seem to have any problems with dead pixels/yellow screen/noise and would hate to exchange it.
Build-quality wise the unibodies are really as perfect as I've ever experienced any machine to be. Simply amazing. BUT, the black plastic hinge cover is cheap and creaks as soon as I grab the computer or open the display. I opened her up to see if there was anything I could do to reinforce it or something, but I didn't want to mess with it.
Quite a few seem to have this 'issue' and I thought maybe somebody has figured out a solution?Such a shame on an otherwise perfect machine. I would have preferred the same kind of rubbery plastic that was on the old generation MBP
i have my power saver set up so that the display goes to sleep after 30 minutes do i get it to wake back up without pressing the power button in the back?

The top back on the iMac is insanely hot too touch. I also just installed windows 7 and I noticed after I ejected the CD it was super super super hot as well. Is this all normal for iMacs? View 12 Replies View RelatedAfter converting avi files to dvd I lose audio on more than half the files. The audio works fine on the avi file. However once its converted the movie plays with no sound.
I'm currently using a free trial version of divX convertor. Then I use iDVD to burn the movie. However the problem isn't with iDVD because when I just try to play the converted movie through the divX player or quicktime there is no sound. Obviously the same holds true when I send the converted file to iDVD.
1. What is the reason for this happening?
2. Do I need to use a different convertor? Or do I need to install additional programs?
3. I'm not the most computer savvy person so please try to give a simple explanation and instruction.
besides my Finder problem now I have to fight with a MagSafe problem that is much more annoying and complicated.
Well, is "death". If I connect to the electricity and then I connect to the MacBook it just doesn't work.
I have to pull the cable to it work, its very annoying.
There's any way to fix this? Have anyone had this problem? Have you fix it?
I don't want to buy a new one, I feel that it would be a unnecessarily expenditure.
This is a problem I've been having for months on and off. Apple won't help (because, of course, it doesn't happen when it's in front of an Apple Genius).
But perhaps MR can help. Simple question: what could be causing my MBP to lose connection to my wifi and then not be able to find ANY wifi networks in my area (of which there are usually about a dozen)?

I have two iMac's (an old G5 and a newer Intel iMac -- about a year old). On both I have been using Apple's bluetooth keyboards and mouses with no problems. Recently (maybe when I updated to 10.5.8), the mouse behavior has been problematic on both machines. On the Intel iMac, the mouse and computer will lose the connection several times a day. I'll command-tab from application to application and then after a while connectivity returns -- until the next time. The behavior on the G5 iMac has been much more problematic. On that machine, the mouse only occasionally works.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been storing all my pictures in an external hard drive, from which I linked my pictures to iPhoto '09. Now I have a new hard drive and would like to transfer my pictures to it but don't know how to keep all the information associated with the pictures in iPhoto (such as the "Places" and "Faces" info I've added).
I've copied all the pictures to the new HD, then opened iPhoto while pressing "option". Then I selected the folder in my new HD to be used by iPhoto, but it didn't work.
What should I do with the file in my Pictures folders (a file named 'iPhoto library')? Do I copy that to the new HD as well?
In my Mac Pro I currently have the stock HD as my OS/Home drive, while the other two 1TB WD Black drives are RAID 0 partitioned into a 1.5 TB Data drive and 256GB Scratch. I have these and my OS/home drive backing up to time machine but when I eventually upgrade to 10.6 (and probably clean install) will I lose my RAID setup and have to re-create it byte-by-byte in order to restore from my Time Machine backup? Or would I have to do the 'upgrade' installation to get around this since I used Disc Utility to create my RAID setup?

The only other thing I'm worried about is that it ported over HD inconsistencies from my previous failed machine.

When I try to attach a file into hotmail message, nothing happens and I lose the icons showing attachment options. In addition the email states that the attachment ID has a bad format. This problem just surfaced this week. Never had this in the past year and a half!
