why does my imac lose internet connection after coming out of sleep mode and sometimes from power up. This is something that started about ten weeks ago.I have been all though road runner's diagnostics and etc. So now they insist that its with my imac.

Ever since I upgraded to Lion, my imac loses its wifi connection when it sleeps.When i wake it up i have to always go up to the wifi icon on top right of screen and wait till it sees my network and then say connect.This never happened in snow leopard, seemed to stay connected.

At the end of the work day I generally unplug the network cable, Apple Cinema Display, and then just put it to sleep by closing the lid. Some days I use it later after I get home, others I don't. If I leave it in Sleep mode I generally lose about 5-8% of the battery by the next morning.
I'm just wondering if I'd be better off shutting it down completely each night. Any pros/cons? Battery considerations?
I have a 27" iMac running OSX Lion 10.7.3. Some time in the last 2-3 weeks, it has started to getting into a state where the kernel_task is using 100% of one CPU constantly. When this happens, it also kills my Internet connection and I cannot use the browser, email, Skype, Twitter, etc. I have tried putting it to sleep, closing all programs that are open checked the process list with ps to see if I could find anything weird, but it still keeps happening.Â
I have to restart the computer whenever this happens. It might happen again in a couple of minutes or not for several hours, but happen it does. I thought it might be Chrome or Mail for a while, but it happened today when those were not running.Â

Lately I've noticed that whenever I put my Mac to sleep, I lose a few megabytes. At first I didn't think anything about it. Until one day I let sleep for a while I was doing something, and came back to, and saw that I had lost about 300 megabytes. While it was in sleep, no applications were running and nothing was downloading. My mac is Macbook pro, 3 years old, 120 gigabyte, 2 gb of ram, 2.33 Ghz Intel Core duo, Model Identifier: 2,2, and Serial Number:W86481HGW0H Right now it's running leopard. I'm about to upgrade to Snow Leopard. So why would it lose this hard drive space when it's in sleep mode? By the way, I bought it used one year ago. So I've only had it a year. I haven't downloaded anything from any untrustworthy websites. I only download things from trusted sources(i.e. itunes.) Please help. Right now my only solution is to keep a close eye on it, and make sure that it does not go to sleep!

Every few minutes, I lose connection to the internet even though it says I'm still connected to my network. I have to turn Wi-Fi off and then on for it to start working again. It only works for a few minutes and sometimes hours, but then I have to turn Wi-Fi off and then on agian. It only happens on my MacBook.

When clicking through diagnostics, ISP, Internet and Server show first organge then turn red. If clicking through the diagnostics, sometimes I am lucky and it shows a message saying "Network configurations have chnaged", when I click ok, I'm online again. But very often nothing helps and I have to re-start the router again.

At work im working on a Mac Pro 2x 2.8ghz quad core xeon.. when it comes out of sleep the mouse acts fine for about 5 secounds.. and then starts darting all over the place and then freezes in one area. I can stick click but not move the mouse. This is what i have tried so far.
1. disconnecting and reconnecting the mouse.
2. Looked in console for any weird mouse errors.
3. put it back to sleep and woke it back up.
4. restarted.
5. changed the energy saver options.
6. looked around mouse and keyboard cp for options.
7. tried another mouse.
8. tried using a mouse pad.
this is what has worked, but only works for about 5 secounds before it goes crazy again and then stops moving. force quit the finder. if i restart it, its fine till i put it to sleep and then it all starts over again. the system is fully patched to 10.5.6 with all the efi updates from apple update.
Lately my 13" early 2011 Macbook Pro has been locking up when in sleep mode. All I get is a blank screen and the cursor which responds, but no buttons pushed on the keyboard resolve issue. Resolution thus far has been to hard boot the macbook...

when i have my macbook on and close it (sleep mode) and re-open it at a later time. it typically makes four noises (basically sounds like it is reading the hard drive for 1-2 seconds when you open it. lately it is making those same noises but noticeably slower. what could be causing this? is my hard drive going to go out on me soon? i have about 10 GB free on it.

If I leave the computer on continous everything works fine. It backs up every hour. It has been running fine for over a week. If I set the iMac in energy saver mode, say 10 minutes, when the iMac comes out of sleep mode there is a warning that Time Machine failed.Â
I get the following errors messages:Â "Time Machine could not complete the Backup" "Error while creating the Backup Folder"Â
There is no way to correct it or retry. I have to run disk utility and erase the external HD, re-format, then back everything again.Â
I would prefer to use the energy save feature of the iMac if I could. I tried the Apple Support number and they just said leave the iMac in "energy saver NEVER" so the iMac stays on continous. Â
Anyone able to let their IMac go in sleep mode with Time Machine turned on? It seems like a possible bug with 10.7.3?

I just purchased a new iMac 24" 2009 Model. I also got a Wireless Mighty Mouse & Wireless keyboard. I have owned the system for 6 days and each day the Mighty Mouse and keyboard will lose connection and require me to hold the power button down on the imac to restart the system. I called apple and was told to do a "Option Command R P" Reset. This did not fix the problem... I then called them again and was told to format the system.. This did not fix the problem.. I replaced the batteries, turned bluetooth off on any near by devices changed my 802.11 freq to a different channel. It seems from information collected from other forums that this is effecting mainly the new alum 2009 imac...I am starting to think this is now hardware. Also something I noticed.. Brand new FRESH Energizer Ultimate Batteries $25. I put them into the mighty mouse. 1 day later iStat reports the mouse is at 73%!! thats a big drop in 1 day

Evey time it goes to sleep or I turn it off it forgets the fact that there is any wireless around. I have to look for the networks. Then if it wants to will find them and trying to connect to my own wireless network (apple extreme) is a challenge. I do have parallel desktop installed, could that be the problem?

My iMac is set up wireless. Every time it's allowed to go in sleep mode, it loses wireless connectivity. Then, when I wake it up, I must go to System preferences, Network and request it to reconnect to my home wireless network. It always does this successfully, but it's quite annoying that it seems unable to achieve this on it's own. My iPad 2 and kindle can do this, why not my iMac?

After using my MacBook Pro I close the laptop and it goes to sleep. Later when I return to it and open it, sometimes it can't find the network. The computer is able to see that I have an Apple Network available, but it won't connect.Sometimes when I try to connect, it gives me a timeout. How I fix it is to walk over to the router and unplug it and plug it back in. After I get the green light again, I go to the Apple Network and it works.

Every time my macbook is in sleep mode the internet disconnects (msn messenger shuts down, download stops etc.). I am not talking about closing the lid sleep mode because I am in desktop mode with an external display. Once I woke up my macbook it reconnects. every time i open my macbook pro from sleep mode there is no internet connection, even though my wifi bars are full and black and my home router is found and ticked. after a 1-2 minute delay my mac then connects to the internet. this happens every time i open my laptop from sleep mode. i have to wait 1-2 mins. this has only started to happen in the last few days and is driving me mad as it shows it is connected to the internet.

View 5 Replies View RelatedAs of last night, my MBP started acting very strangely. After entering my username and password, it would enter the desktop for a short period of time and then kick back into sleep mode; the screen would turn back to black. Sometimes it will let me stay on the desktop for a long time and other times it will hardly let me stay on the desktop. I called apple support and they had me start the computer in safe mode; even then it occasionally kicks me out.
The tech guy said that it was a "strange software issue" and not a hardware issue. I thought it was a hard drive issue; my hard drive makes an odd sound when it unlocks (a grinding sound), but it has been doing that for quite some time with no issues. I tried to reset the SMC and it didn't do anything.
How should I remedy this problem? Is this a hard drive issue? Hard drive failure? Has the grinding sound finally caught up with me? I am running OS X; not leopard or snow leopard. I know I need to upgrade, but this shouldn't be happening.
My parents just bought a new Imac (3.4 Ghz/I7) which is running 10.6.8. and we cannot figure out why it won't go to sleep automatically. In System Preferences/Engergy Saver we have set both the "computer sleep" and "display sleep" to about 5 minutes, but no matter what we do it keeps showig the screen saver and never goes to sleep. The "put hd to sleep" is checked, and the start screen saver is set to roughly the same amount... I have tried adjusting these settings, to no avail.
