IMac :: Left Arrow Key Puts To Sleep
Aug 18, 2009
My Intel iMac (Late 2008, aluminum display, 24", 2GB RAM) has a problem where, when using the left arrow key on the desktop or to go back a space when renaming something in the Finder, it will put the computer to sleep. All other applications have no problem with the key. I've looked at all the usual culprits (keyboard shortcuts, preferences) and I can't find a reason. The only thing I can glean is that it is directly connected to the  menu at the top, as the  lights up right before the computer goes to sleep.

We have a great DSL connection and a TP-link router. I just got a RAM upgrade hoping that was the problem, but it wasn't. Is my system just not speaking the Java and Flash lingo, because it's old? I got it in March 2006. How come my partner can watch video just fine here on his used PC laptop with Windows XP?

There is some problem with my keyboard. Everytime I press the button k, this is what comes out: Also, everytime I press the left arrow, what happens is that instead of moving to the left for one character it moves all the way to the previous word. You may ask how I'm typing "k" now, Yes I'm using the infamous Copy-Paste. Please help me cause this problem is really irritating. By the way, on the mac, when I press k, this comes out: Ëš and the left arrow goes to the previous word. On the windows though, both keys do absolutely nothing. This is lame.

where the *#$& does one change this setting? Right now, if I close the laptop, it goes to sleep. This is bad - for presentations, running iTunes at home... But I can not find where to change this - I've been through every section of Pref's.

I have a unibody Macbook Pro and I installed windows 7 64bit with bootcamp and one thing that i noticed is that windows 7 puts my macbook to sleep when I close the lid about 10 seconds faster than Snow Leopard does.
Snow Leopard takes about 10 to 15 seconds to put it to sleep and Windows take 2 to 5 seconds. Is this normal? It'd be funny if windows can do things faster than mac can with apple hardware.

I set the MBP to sleep in 10 min through the Energy Saver pref with the option to sleep the hdds. When it's about to sleep the screen dims, then turns black, then the sleep light comes on but does not blink no matter how long I leave it. The blinking only happens when I close the lid or when I select the Sleep option under the Apple logo. Is that normal behavior?

This morning I woke up and my iMac, which I had left sleeping, would switch on. As I discovered, for some reason the power cord had been disconnected. Once I connected it again, nothing would happen when I pressed the start button, not a noise... nothing.

I have my mbp just 3 weeks old and I tried to calibrate the battery just few hrs ago. I continuously used my mbp until the battery level reached to 2% (the warning message showed when it was 6%). Just then I had to receive a phone call. When I was busy talking, I noticed that the mbp has gone to sleep mode but when I returned (2-3 mins later), I found it shut down. Well, I think it should have remained to sleep mode but it didn't.
Then after an hour I connected the power cord and switched on and noticed a progress bar which I saw for the first time. I have been charging it for 40-50 mins, now. Also the health of my battery keeps fluctuating between 95-100 %. istat shows this. Is this normal? So what I want to know is, Is this normal for mbp to shut down when the battery reach that low? OR there is some problem in my MBP?

Is there ANY possible way to create a left-backspace key on the wireless keyboard, like a macro or something? I am going crazy without it, and of course, the only solution I see is to buy the wired standard keyboard with the numeric keypad, which contains a left-backspace (left-delete) key.

Ok so my iMac g3 has a left speaker that doesn't work. The right one works fine and when I turn the volume up the left speaker kind of buzzes. Is it even worth replacing the internal speaker? (IIRC it looks pretty difficult)

The hits just keep on coming with this thing First, it arrived with a massive glob of dust trapped between the backlight and LCD panel (still need to take to Genius Bar), then the PSU buzzing started and now it's making a random clicking/popping sound from the lower left. Its a very quiet sound but its noticeable in a quiet room. It appears to be random, but I can reproduce it by opening iTunes, playing a few seconds of a song, waiting at least 10 seconds in silence, then starting another song. *pop* and the song begins. This happens in QuickTime as well. What is going on here? I'm so exasperated right now, I wish Apple would just replace my troubled machine with a new one.

One obvious thing I've noticed on a mac is the close window [x] minimize window [_] and maximize window buttons are on the right on a windows. On a Mac they are on the opposite left side. What I am wondering is there a way to switch those buttons on the left side on a Mac to the right. Which I am accustomed to it? It there anyway or is it just something, I will have to adjust to.

Earlier I noticed a faint noise coming from the top left of the iMac, a little 'hiss' like, but otherwise hard to describe. I presume it's the HD, but I'm not quite sure as diagrams show the HD being more-a-less in the middle. Perhaps the room has got quieter, but then again the concern is that the iMac has got louder.
