IMac (Intel) :: What Does Arrow At The Bottom Of Thumbnail Mean
Dec 10, 2014
"Jack" when on "Jill's" computer without her knowing and altered her desktop "organizing" system. Now, some of the icons/files show the Preview paper icon with the arrow (from the attached image) and won't open at all.
Trying to reinstall osx maverick. It says it's downloading . It also says your computer will restart automatically, but I have not seen any progress or the bar moving at the bottom for a half an hour? It is connected to the internet, but nothing seems to be happening . Is this normal?
I bought my iMac last month (Late-2013 model) and notice some low/small "tick-ing" sound came out from the bottom section of my iMac i guess. I often hear that when there's no other sounds in my room. It happened whenever i scrolling down web page on Safari or when doing some graphical process on Photoshop, scrolling Dashboard and other graphical-related task.
The bottom left hand quadrant of my screen has dimmed. Apple repaired this a year ago and the problem is back. My Applecare is expiring soon. What are my options?
The left arrow key camne off my aluminium keyboard this evening and I can't seem to get it back in place. There are a couple of plastic 'scissors' under it, the larger one appears to have a pin on the end of each leg but one pin seems to be missing.
My Intel iMac (Late 2008, aluminum display, 24", 2GB RAM) has a problem where, when using the left arrow key on the desktop or to go back a space when renaming something in the Finder, it will put the computer to sleep. All other applications have no problem with the key. I've looked at all the usual culprits (keyboard shortcuts, preferences) and I can't find a reason. The only thing I can glean is that it is directly connected to the menu at the top, as the lights up right before the computer goes to sleep.
my mouse arrow cursor changes at will - it becomes an ibeam or a hand (like the one used when pointing to a link) and then will switch back to an arrow. I use a Logitech wireless mouse with plugged in USB receiver. I turn the mouse off whenever I stop work. I changed the batteries on the Logitech mouse yesterday and it had no effect. I tried using the Magic Mouse (which I love, but which has problems of its own - it eats batteries for breakfast and it's not consistently recognized when I wake up the iMac and I have to resort to the Logitech mouse to get going so I rarely use it) to see if it did the same thing and it does. I am still running 10.6.6 and haven't added any software or done anything strange. I did update Firefox to 9.0.1 a while back, but things were fine a long time after I did that.
I just wanted to get a take on this. I recently sold my Macbook and still have a 2.66ghz iMac at home. I was going to pull the trigger on a new shiny MBP than I started doing some checking the the 330M I wish it were a better card.
So I got the idea to sell my iMac as well and get the iMac i7 and a low end MBP 13. Now this is what I would use it for. I need a portable for presentations, I do light photoshop and web work, entering into video FCP etc. I also bootcamp for bits of gaming (L4D, Dragon Age) and eyeing SC2 later on. With this in mind there are 3 issues. 1: [URL]
2: the iMac Screen issues (yellowing)and 3: the cost will be about $300 more so $900 MBP only vs $1200 iMac and low end MBP. I would like to save some money but damm only $300 more... aargghh
What does the padlock on the lower left of a file's thumbnail really mean when viewing the contents of a folder?
I assumed it meant the file was locked, but some files I lock do not show the padlock.
I have a folder of jpg files. All are owned by me and when I click the "Locked" check box in the Get Info dialogue box only a couple of files will show a padlock.
I cant seem to get the app store in the tool bar at the bottom. Ive tried updating the software but it says im all up to date. Can anyone help me please. I dont know what to do!
I might just be losing my mind but has there always been a grey bar at the bottom of the screen? It sort of tells me when pages are loading or what website accessing and such?
I bought it on black friday at an Apple retail store. And the second day I bought it, under the sunlight, I can see a slight.. mark across from the left all the way to the right on the bottom of the iMac. Is this part of the design?
My new 24 inch iMac is making clicking sounds in the bottom right hand (looking at screen). The clicking sounds is linked in an audio file below. [URL]
I took my iMac panel off to clean and when I put it back I noticed as you run your finger from the bottom of the panel left to right or right to left, the glass begins to get thicker and eventually overlap just barely the metal in the middle. I can't remember if it was like this or not before, so I am wondering is this bent? And if so what should I do?
So after giving up the new iMacs after two replacements about six months ago for yellow screens......I thought I would try again.
The good news is that the white is very uniform with no yellowing. The bad news is that it has this dark band across the bottom of the screen just above the dock.
So I am basically in the same spot I was six months ago. Replace the unit for a new one, replace the screen, or just live with it. Maybe I am being too anal but for $2,500, I shouldn't have to live with anything but a perfect screen.
I have just upgraded from W7 to iMac :P Yay. Just trying to organise my files again and get used to the new system, one thing I can't work out how to do tho is set a picture as a movie thumbnail. On my W7 I used to have all the movies DVD cover's there so I could flic thru them, and once I choose a movie clicking on the picture would open the movie - I dont know if this was a picture that acted like a short cut or what, however with the Mac cover-flow view it would be really handy to have this back again instead of the thumbnail being of the first few seconds of the movie or the VLC cone...
i noticed a while ago that my bottom set of keys dont work such as - z x c v b n m , . / also the space button doesnt work either but all other keys do! im having to use a differant windows keyboard which is annoying because it doesnt have all the buttons that the mac
I just received my new IMac and was starting to do some typing for a school project when I noticed that the keyboard bottom stand was uneven so whenever I type it bounces much like a chair with uneven legs. I was wondering what to do because now I have to stick a credit card underneath it to keep it from moving.
My images won't display at all for some reason..I noticed this earlier but I thought it was just one folder..seems its my whole computer. .PSD files display, but .jpg or any other picture format don't seem to display correctly. I have "Show Icon Preview" checked, so I'm not sure what else could be happening. They don't display in the cover flow feature either..but if I hit the spacebar while on an image, it will display
I don't know it this possible but the thumbnails in leopard are too small even on the max but I noticed that when you do a search for photos in thumbnail mode you can scale it to a very large size. Do you know how do imake the thumbnails looks bigger in finder while normal browsing not searching?
All my movies in iTunes have a dvd cover image I've downloaded. However, one particular movie just won't hold onto it - after pasting it into the info box and clicking ok, the thumbnail will be there and then, a second later, vanish.
According to the FCPX 10.1.2 User Guide (pg.153) a thumbnail pin associated with each chapter marker allows to select the image that will show up in the exported menu for that marker.
Well, after adding the chapter marker I find the pin in the timeline, I move it to select an image but: 1) nothing changes in the FCP X viewer, which does NOT show the selected image, and (worse) 2) in fact nothing happens in the exported movie: Share/Export File (added) with Format: computer, Video Codec: H.264 Faster Encode, Resolution 1920x1080.
The export fully works, all chapters are there in the right position, but each chapter is associated with the frame under its marker, NOT the frame I selected for it using the pin (which lays ignored on the frame I chose...).
Well: almost "fully" works: it can be played only by Quicktime X, not Quicktime 7. Not a big issue. And probably this has nothing to do with the pin problem... Is there a way to make it work as in the user guide?

I tried the two responses that said to delete some plugins to get Safari to let PDFs go to Finder so they could be downloaded. Didn't work for me. I'm guessing I accidentally changed something in Safari (Security?) that prevents the switchover; I don't get the four icons at the bottom of the screen for certain documents (Including the one inviting a download PDF to Finder), while it works for others. So I have to request paper copies of some forms to be snailmailed to me, rather than emailed.
