OS X :: IMac G5 4 Puts Itself To Sleep During Online Videos
Nov 26, 2009
We have a great DSL connection and a TP-link router. I just got a RAM upgrade hoping that was the problem, but it wasn't. Is my system just not speaking the Java and Flash lingo, because it's old? I got it in March 2006. How come my partner can watch video just fine here on his used PC laptop with Windows XP?
My Intel iMac (Late 2008, aluminum display, 24", 2GB RAM) has a problem where, when using the left arrow key on the desktop or to go back a space when renaming something in the Finder, it will put the computer to sleep. All other applications have no problem with the key. I've looked at all the usual culprits (keyboard shortcuts, preferences) and I can't find a reason. The only thing I can glean is that it is directly connected to the  menu at the top, as the  lights up right before the computer goes to sleep.
where the *#$& does one change this setting? Right now, if I close the laptop, it goes to sleep. This is bad - for presentations, running iTunes at home... But I can not find where to change this - I've been through every section of Pref's.
I have a unibody Macbook Pro and I installed windows 7 64bit with bootcamp and one thing that i noticed is that windows 7 puts my macbook to sleep when I close the lid about 10 seconds faster than Snow Leopard does. Snow Leopard takes about 10 to 15 seconds to put it to sleep and Windows take 2 to 5 seconds. Is this normal? It'd be funny if windows can do things faster than mac can with apple hardware.
Any time I try to watch a video on any website (youtube, netflix, etc.) it won't load. It is just a black rectangle. I tried refreshing multiple times but nothing happens. Everything was working fine earlier today and now videos won't work.
I have a Mac G4 10.4.11 and (for some unknown reason) as of today i cannot view any videos online... just black rectangles... sometimes nothing at all. I'm running Flash Player 10.1.102.64 (the latest compatible with 10.4).
My macbook air is running on OS X 10.9.5, with i5 processor, and for some unknown reason will not play videos, like short tutorial videos or demo videos for online shopping site. The enable plug-ins is on.
So I am trying to download a video, which is online only and I was wondering if there is any way to do that? I have a slow internet and it would be nice to have it on my computer so I can watch it whenever i want it. Here is the link, for other videos you have to pay so I am guessing they disabled any sort of ways that let people to download them but maybe there is a software that would let me download this videos. Does anyone know of such things?
I have an iMac 17" G5 1.6 intel with 2 Gb of RAM. I can watch videos with no problem unless I try to watch one online such as Youtube or something like a video on Fox news. I have a highspeed cable modem hookup through Cox Cable. I have tried switching between the airPort and direct ethernet hookup but is makes no difference. I don't have this problem with my MacBook Pro.
Whenever I log on to Youtube or ABC for example to watch TV Shows, the audio is fine but the video seems to play every 3 frames or so. Is there a reason why this is? I have broadband internet and other parts of web-surfing go smoothly. Is my laptop too outdated to play online video?
Here recently when I've been watching videos on YouTube, The Video will load to a certain point then after that it stops and when the video gets to that point it just pauses and stops. To be able to watch farther into the video I have to keep refreshing my computer every time this happens and sometimes it loads farther, and sometimes it doesn't. I've tried to reset Safari, Deleting cookies, Deleting history, but nothing worked?
I've just recently bought the 27 " LED ACD, and it's totally beautiful. However, it seems that when watching videos/movies, the display would go to sleep, whereas compared to my MBP, as long as video is playing, the display would still be showing. How can I set the ACD to act the same way?
Does anyone have any recommendations on an online backup service. I do have a backup external drive that backups my iMac but I am really thinking about paying for an online service. I think I will feel more secure knowing that if something happens to my computer all my data is replaceable.
I have an old imac G3 /500 mhz graphite from my old work sitting around just for my little one to play cd games. I use PC now to do my emailing and net-surfing, but gotta admit I used to love this machine, and though it's old it still looks cool. I didn't get around to connet it to go on-line, because of compatibility problem with PC(main cable modem is connected to a PC) but now thinking about upgrading it to go on-line for my kids to use. It has OS 9.0.4, 128MB of RAM with speed of 500 mhz w/front slot loading. I'm not computer savvy and don't know much about it, but was told before that system has to be upgraded to OS 9.1 or later first, in order for wireless card to be installed. Can anyone help me with exactly what I need to go on-line with this imac? since it's going to be mainly for my kids, I do not plan to purchase any additional application software, but willing to spend some to upgrade system, memory, and on wireless card. I'm thinking I might not even need newest system as long as it can go on-line, but which OS system(or should go higher?) would make more sense? How much more memory? Is it really possible to install a wireless card on this machine? Would there be a problem because main cable is connected to a PC in which wireless router is installed(for another window laptop)? Or is it even worth trying? Appreciate any advice you computer genius out there could give me.
Not sure where to post this as it really applies to the Apple Online Store itself. On my iMac running 10.6.3 I can't check out on the Apple online store. I can add items to my cart (doesn't matter what it is: i've tried various items). But once I go to check out it asks me to login and when I do I get taken to a page that says "An error has occurred during your session. Please return to the Store Menu to continue shopping." No matter how many times I try to checkout, I'll get the same error. However, if I login to the Apple store from my Macbook Air running 10.5.8 (which recognizes me as the same account as the same items will show up in the cart) I can checkout fine with no problems.
I am a new Mac user, and everytime I open a file or document a link is put on my desktop. How can I turn this off. As one user put it it is very annoying.
The cursor on my Macbook Pro skips and puts me at a different spot on a regular basis. This makes typing very difficult particularly when the page is accessed through the internet.
In my Safari bookmarks bar the system puts a number in brackets after the title. This is not present on any other title and if I delete it, the system puts it back. Why is this and how do I get rid of the number permanently?
Info: Mac mini (Mid 2007), Mac OS X (10.7.3), none
I have setup profile manager. Trusted profile is installed. When a user logs in the profile is added. In the profile the users email address is correct. [URL] When i turn to Mail, agenda and contacts in the system preferences the mail address is displayed as : [URL]This is also being displayed in the Mail account settings.Â
I recently was given a G3 iMac (Slot Loading), and was wondering what I could do with it. So far, I'm using it as an MP3 player, and I put some random videos on it, but not much else. I'm planning on doing a youtube series about ways to use an old Mac, but theres one problem: The iMacs screen is difficult to record with a camera, (scan lines) and there are not video-screen-capture programs available for OS 9. I know this post seems confusing, but basically I'm wondering if anyone can suggest,
Whenever I send a email thru Apple Mail using my Gmail account, it will put the email in the DRAFTS folder.I have 3 email accounts that I use in Apple Mail and the Gmail one is the only one that does this.
My IMac seems to be lagging when I play videos of movies or soap operas that I downloaded online. What do you think the cause of this could be? I play the videos in VLC, and I should be having a lag free smooth video play back right? I think I am still within the 14 day period, should I call apple and request a replacement? Also my HDD is always running at a constant 59 ~ 60 c when just watching videos / movies is this within normal temperatures?
