Safari :: In Bookmarks Bar System Puts Number In Brackets After Title?
Apr 28, 2012
In my Safari bookmarks bar the system puts a number in brackets after the title. This is not present on any other title and if I delete it, the system puts it back. Why is this and how do I get rid of the number permanently?

I have edited renamed moved the bookmarks from bookmarks bar without a problem until I quite safari. Once I reopen safari all changes I made disappear and it reverts back to original with all bookmarks on bookmarks bar. what am I doing wrong that i cannot make permanent changes to my bookmark bar on Safari 5.1.3?
After my recovery drive went missing and trying to reinstall it, had to do a format of my hard drive and reinstall everything once I got OS X reinstalled and up-to-date, I tried to import my bookmarks from a backup bookmarks file, when I quit safari and re-open safari bookmarks were missing and default ones back in place. When searching though the forums for how to fix this problem but too know unluck they did not work.
I use Xmarks to sync my bookmarks from FF to Safari, but on Safari, the bookmark bar shows the number of link inside a Folder/Dropdown, is there a way to hide that ?
For the last two weeks, when using Safari, the top bar which shows the word Safari, File etc (can't remember what it is called) disappears unless I move my cursor up to it. I have checked Safari preferences and System preferences and can't figure out how to stop it from disappearing. I suspect it is a check box.
I have tried to check the "view" option to hide/show and neither solves the problem.

I have bought a new iMac today and want to know how I can stop the title bar disappearing when I am in Safari? Have tried system preferences and no luck!
Could some teach me on how to take a copy of my Bookmarks from Safari, then be able to transfer that on my other Safari app while I'm logged in on my guest log in?
And also on how to take my iTune playlist to my other iTune app on my guest log in please..
My RAM I ordered for my iBook 1.42ghz came in today. I'm trying to install it, but I can't seem to get the brackets to snap. I can get it in so it feels pretty secure, but only the bracket on the left side (when viewing from the USB-port side of the iBook) is clicking in place.
When I download a Word or Powerpoint file, Safari adds a second extension to the files - .dot and .pot. What does this mean? Word and PPT 2008 recognize the format and it opens fine on my computer, but if I send this back to someone with that extra extension, I can imagine I'd run into problems.
I signed up for a mobile me trial and I enable mobile me syncing on my iMac, iPhone, my girlfriends macbook and iphone. Now the problem is my imac has her bookmarks and her macbook has mine. We also have each others mail accounts on our computers. How can we change this back the way it was so we don't have each others mail accounts and we each have our own bookmarks on our own computers?
My wife's MacBook (10.5.8) has been acting really funny lately, and I used it recently and tried to get on Safari. I can't get any pages to come up, and any pages I do try come up blank, and at the top the display normally says what page I'm on, it instead says, "(page URL), 1x1 pixels. I checked SW update, installed all updates, and restarted, and that didn't fix anything. Anyone ever seen this? Anyone know what might cause the problem? I should note that Firefox works fine FWIW.
I am experienced in Excel VBA on the PC but not on the Mac. I am building an application on my PC that will run on my sister's Mac (latest OS, Excel V14.0.2). The problem involves the use of FormulaARRAY in my code. I have extracted the problem statement into a small example routine shown below: Public Sub example() Dim lastcol As Long With ActiveSheet lastcol = 12 .Cells(4, 6).FormulaArray = "=SUM((MOD(COLUMN(RC9:RC" & lastcol & ") -COLUMN(RC9),3)=0)*(RC9:RC" & lastcol & "))" End With End Sub
Here is one of the correct and working formulas that resulted on the PC (note the brackets for the array formulas are missing but they are there. I got what I am showing by using the 'display formulas' option which apparently does not show the brackets): =SUM((MOD(COLUMN(RC9:RC12)-COLUMN(RC9),3)=0)*(RC9:RC12))
Here is the incorrect and non working formula that resulted on my sister's Mac: (again the brackets are there) =SUM((MOD(COLUMN(R[5]C[465]:R[8]C[465])-COLUMN(R[5]C[465]),3)=0)*(R[5]C[465]:R[8]C[465]))
Both systems were set to display R1C1 Reference Style. This is irrelevant on the PC and I would assume the same for the Mac. I bought an old G4 for $60 to use to debug my PC code in the Mac environment. Curiously the code runs fine on it under Excel 2004.
Having an issue with Safari 4.0.2, when I click to add a website to my bookmarks, it gives me the pop-up, I choose my folder and click Add, but when I check in the folder, nothing has been added.
I've had Snow Leopard since launch. I want to do a fresh install, and then copy the files I want onto it from my external hard-drive. I have some questions though:
Will I have to redownload all the system updates that came out since Snow Leopard's launch? Is there a way around that?
Is there a way to save Safari's bookmarks?
If I want to keep a certain application, do I save the DMG or the installed icon onto the hard drive?
I copied the Pictures folder onto the hard-drive, which includes the 'iPhoto Library' file. Will this put my events back onto iPhoto?
How do I save address book contacts?
How do I save iTunes playlists/play counts/library etc?
Maybe there's an easier way of doing a fresh install while still being able to select these things to keep?
I've followed the usual instructions for deleting bookmarks but they keep showing up again every time I bring up Safari again. I've shut down the computer and reinstalled Safari without resolution of the problem. My OS is OS 10.6.
My Mac has been having some issues with "Kernel Panics" and after taking it to the Apple store and them finding nothing wrong with it while doing their tests, their advice was to just do a clean install without using the "migration helper" feature. I already know how to move over my music files, documents, etc. However, I have a ton of bookmarks saved and I'd hate to hate to build my bookmarks from scratch after doing a clean install of OS X. How can I save my bookmarks?
I have my iMac and MacBook set up to share files on my home network. What is the easiest way to share bookmarks. I have tried to copy the bookmarks from the Bookmarks folder in Home/ Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari/Bookmarks. This does not seem to work well.
I find it incredibly useful in Firefox but I'm training myself to really get used to using Safari as my main browser. On a personal note, I'm glad I have a shaved head because I would've pulled out all of my hairs by now, trying to find this online. Searched everywhere. On here, Apple Support forums, Google, YouTube, you name it.
I am on a MacBook (OS 10.5.8) running Safari (4.0.3). All of a sudden I have noticed that when I try to set a new bookmark, it appears in the folder on the bookmark menu bar, until I shut down and then it disappears. However, when you go through the Bookmark Bar, through the open book icon, the bookmark is there.
I tried exporting the bookmark.plst and then deleting it from finder and trying to import them back. This resulted in the bookmarks appearing to be there, until I shut down safari. When I restarted, I was left with the default bookmarks. I then tried to restore Safari from a back up a month ago and one 6 months ago. This got me my old bookmarks back, but didn't solve the problem of the disappearing bookmarks.
I'm not sure how uninstalling safari and reinstalling.
Was autonotified that 2 updates were available: Safari 1.5.1 and iTunes. After the installation, all my Safari bookmarks, bookmark menu, bookmark bar are gone and reset to what looks like a default list. I am running the latest LION release/version...
I know I can back up from my Time Machine by going to ~/Library/Safari/bookmarks.plist and restore.. however I can not locate the file?
I know that ~/Libray is hidden so I went to Finder and pressed option GO and library displayed... I then opened TIme Machine and attempted to find the bookmarks.plist under Safari on an older backed up copy and the file was not there..
I am getting duplicate bookmarks of the same site in my safari side bar. can anybody suggest what is going wrong here, using Lion and latest safari on MacBook Pro

I'm using Mac OS 10.7.3 on 2.8 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo. I can't get bookmarks to work in Safari. I try to bookmark things and nothing is saved in the bookmarks window.
I have two bookmarks in my bookmarks bar and I want them to be in the middle of my bookmarks, everytime I move them though they move back to the second and third from the left position within a couple seconds
