Jun 20, 2014My mail icon on the sidebar has a red circle with #'s in it even though I have read all of the mail. How do I get rid of it so it only turns up red when I have new mail?

Aug 27, 2014Just a couple days ago keep in dock no longer works. Rebooting resets everything. I tried deleting the preferences file for dock, no luck. Same problem. I tried restoring it from an earlier time. No luck. Still does not work. I am using the latest versions of everything. Oh, and yes I use and have tried and checked antivirus programs. No virus. I've tried removing them. Still doesn't work.

Dec 2, 2014Mail is often very slow to get mail on my Imac. Much faster on phone. Sometimes I have to take it on and off line to get it to new mail. At times I have had to force quit the mail program and restart. Additionally, I often have to move the same mail several times to get it filed where I want. Are there fixes or is it time to move to another email client? I have used mac mail for many years and have thousands of emails filed.

Jun 29, 2014I have just installed Maverick. When I use Safari and try and open a Pdf file from a webpage I get a black screen and tells me to download Adobe. I have reinstalled adobe reader but still don't get anywhere. I can open any pdf files I have previously stored or have in downloads or in documents.

Jun 27, 2012When I launch Mail app, my mac starts running ridiculously slow. I get the spinning ball after almost every click.Just switching between safari tabs can take 1/2 minutes. In activity monitor it is showing 118% is being used by mail when it is running which hogs the entire CPU effectively.When I quit the application through activity monitor it quits, however if I try to quit (CMD Q) or force quit the application nothing happens. Also when I try and shut mail stops the shut down.Â

Aug 8, 2009even when i dont have any programs actually running i get the stupid coloured spinning circle and i can hear the computer thinking like ive got 20 programs running at the same time , kind of like the windows CPU usage stuck on 100% problem.

Jun 20, 2014I have an iMac and it is about 4 years old. For some reason it is very slow starting up, takes about 90 seconds. Opening even a normal app like Firefox takes sometimes 2 minutes.Â
I had the harddrive replaced as part of one of the recall programmes form Apple as the OEM drive was malfunctioning, that made it slightly better, but soon after the old poor performance was back.Â

After I change my OS from Mavericks to Yosemite, moving files between folders is very slow.
For example, if I move one jpg file in Desktop to Pictures folder (or just any other folders like Trash), it takes about 3 seconds.Â
When I was still using Mavericks, it made that Ding sound and transferred files right away. However, now, although it makes the Ding sound right away, the file is still there for 3 seconds.Â
I tried to clean up my mac using many apps, but they never fixed this problem.
I've also tried what I saw on this one thread. OS X File Transfers Very Slow
Go->Connect to Server then type "cifs://server-address" but it says there is a problem and did nothing. (maybe different issue)Â

Sep 2, 2014Last week I got a malware attack from opening up a Facebook message. This caused my iMac to run very slow and to crash all the time. I ran the latest security update which found and removed the malware itself. But still my iMac is running very slow and crashing when doing two jobs at once. Â

Apr 22, 2012recently my Mac is really slow, slow on startup(took around 1-2hours), and slow on task(more than 5 minutes delayed time on every single task), I don't know what happened to it,
My Mac specs: Â
1.Mid-2010 27 inch iMac,
2.Original 4g Ram upgraded to 12g
3.1TB HD has got more than 400gb free space.
4.i3 processor
5.Using latest Lion(I think it's 10.7.3)Â
Problems: Â
1.Startup tooooooooo slow, take more than 1 hour
2.Extreamly slow on tasks. Without any apps opened, every single click, it turned into the 'colorful fan', for instance, open finder, it took more than five mins, and it's not only the finder, it's EVERYTHING!!!!Â
What I have done so far:Â
1.I have reduced the login items
2.I have changed the password login to the automatic login
3.I have tried verify disk permission, verify disk, repair disk permission and repair disk
4.Unplug all unnecessary items(monitor, external drive etc.)
5.Run couple of time of 'clean my Mac', get rid of all the trash.
6.Cleaned the cacheÂ
Due to the ridiculous, frustrating startup, that's all I could do, however, none of them worked.
Now I am using recovery HD to reinstall Lion from a disc, but I don't know if it'll work or not.Â
I don't have another Mac, I don't have backups(don't want to lose my data),that's my situation.

Intel Mac :: IMAP Mail On IMac
Mar 10, 2012I have problem with handling e-mail. It is hypothetical now but will become real when I do the switch. I work as a salesman and have .mac + 5 other POP e-mail accounts. Now we will have 2 or even 3 persons involved in receving and answering e-mails. IMAP solution is recommended. .mac is already on IMAP but other 5 accounts are not.My Internet/host provider told me that it is really easy to make a switch from POP to IMAP mail at their end but that I will that moment lose all e-mails and outgoing mails collected on my iMac. I have 39000 incoming mails on my iMac from last 5 years. As you can guess it is valuable commodity. Just few days ago I archived all mails (received and sent) older than 1000 days. That was fairly painless procedure.
how should I handle this problem with transition to IMAP without losing my valuable mails? Person at Internet hosting suggested to move mail operations to Zimbra mail that is copletely cloud oriented. As you can guess over the years I become acustomed to Mail and I am reluctant to change e-mail client now.

IMac (Intel) :: Freezing After Opening Mail
Jun 19, 2014Last night I was checking my emails on my iMac. It said that I got a junk email frim gmail. I clicked on it so I can delete, and it showed the email like a preview. My computer froze and it said "Loading" and the spinning wheel on the mouse was spinning for a little bit. Then when I would close out, it would like be really slow and it would freeze a lot. I shut down my computer. I turned it back on. It was running nice. Then I opened Mail because I need to send an email with an attachment that I have stored on my computer. I have iTunes and I was iMessage a friend and it's starting to freeze and the spinning circle is spinning a lot. I do have Time Machine set up. The last backup was before I previewed that email. Should I restore from backup, or take it to the Apple Store?  I do have Apple Warrany and I have Apple Care on it.

I have read various comments on forums about exporting mailboxes, sometimes there is mention of choose Export Mail but there has also been advice to copy the mailboxes to a usb then transfer to another computer.
I definitely don't have an Export Mail option available.. only Import and Copy. I would like Export tho .

Aug 22, 2014I have the newest imac and had to have a new hard drive put in, and now when I try to send an email with gmail it won't go. I also downloaded OS X Yosemite also yesterday, so I don' know if my gmail isn't working because of the new hard , or the new OS X I downloaded.
I can send emails from my Ipad with no problem, but not from my Imac, and I,m only 5ft from the Imac.

Jun 3, 2014I am working in an office that has numerous old email accounts on the computer from past temp employees that we keep so that I can reference their communications.  Since updating to Mavericks, when I add or delete accounts from Mail, the changes are restored when I restart mail or reboot the computer. How do I permenently delete or add a new account. I have done this serveral times on other computers, but this one isn't responding as it should. It was running Snow Leopard before the upgrade.Â
