OS X Mountain Lion :: How To Create Application Folder In Home Folder
Aug 29, 2014I'm using MacBook Pro Early 2011 model with Mountain Lion (10.8.5).
I recently noticed that there was an application folder in my home folder (the folder with your username), but that application folder had been empty. I remember I used to be able to access to my applications from that folder, but not anymore.
Since the folder was empty, I deleted it before doing further research.
After deleting the empty application folder from the home folder, I looked up and some said the application folder in the home folder and the application folder in Macintosh HD are two different folders. I don't know what it means, but I would like to have an application folder with applications in my home folder. Is this possible? or should I just make an Alias folder and put it in my home folder?

OS X :: Home Folder Short Name Change Still Not Advisable - Nothing In Folder?
Apr 2, 2009I know the Home Folder short name changing issue has been discussed already on here, and most people seem to advise either against it or to backup before proceeding. I just obtained my first MacBook Pro second hand, and it still has the previous owner's Home Folder and Short Name, even though he has deleted all his files from it, and there's only pretty much standard folders within it (Library, Applications), but nothing in them. I've been saving my own stuff elsewhere in another folder I created on the Mac HD drive. Is it fairly safe then to change his name over to my own following the steps on the Apple website, or would his home still be attached to certain important components? I'd rather not create a brand new account where I have to fiddle with settings again for everything, though I'm not sure if I may have to do that anyway. I'm using Leopard, by the way. The login he passed on at start-up still says administrator as a user name, though, not his shortname. Will that change also?

Mar 12, 2010Anyway, one of my home folders for a user account has gone missing. when you are logged into the account it belongs to you can navigate to it via finder. However you cannot see the folder via finder from any other account. This account is NOT an admin. I had this problem when I was running tiger and it still remains now that I have leopard. 2Ghz INtel core 2 duo Aluminum iMac.

However I have seen it because after converting samples Logic showed me the folder and its contents. I would very much like to move the samples from their present location in this folder on the startup disk to the EXS 24 samples folder on the external RAID array that is dedicated to this purpose - - but I don't know how to make the Library folder visible.

Sep 5, 2014My home folder appears to have gone missing from the Users folder in finder. See screenshot - I can see the test account I created and the shared folder but not my home folder.
I can still access my home folder via the sidebar but this causes problems with some software not being able to see my home folder in their browsers (Nikon Capture NX2 being an example).

Dec 11, 2014I am unable to move files from a 250 GB backup hard drive to a 1.0 TB b/c I keep getting the warning that isn’t enough space. Get Info says that 999.72 GB on it are in use. But the 1.0 TB was almost empty. If I add up the space of each of the 3 or 4 items on it, I get less than 20GB. What’s taking up the other 979 GB?For background, I now have iMac backed up with LaCie 2Big NAS system. The 250 GB is primarily to hold iPhoto Library and backup copies of original photos. the 250 GB is full. So I am trying to switch over from 250 to the 1.0 TB for photos. Moved a few smaller files over, but then could move no more. Thought of running disk utility to erase the 1.0 TB, but now I can’t move the few files on it back to 250 GB, but of error message that it too is full.I did run Repair Disk on 1.0TB before started trying to move files.

To get some space back I am currently doing the following: Going through old video footage and trashing all video I never used in a project. If I attach an external HD can I can I download raw footage on this and then edit with imovie through the external? s there anything anyone else suggests? I MRoogled this and found some ways to save space but couldn't find much on the above two questions that weren't over my experience level as I just want to do home movies for memories.

I tried using disk utility to open up the disk size, by streching the corner mark?? and verify it, as per a previous recommended remedy ..it fails
I have re opened osx in R mode and used disk utility it still fails to repair or verify lost space? I have no back up drive as it recently failed...tsk and don't want to lose anything else??

Dec 21, 2010i would like to move some of the media folders in the home folder to another partition, for example the Movies, Pictures, Music, maybe even Documents and also keep the folder icons.Just recreating them in the other partition I lose the folder icons/designs so is there a good way to do this?I have already recreated a downloads folder and pointed all relevant programs to download anything into that folder/partition but I dont have the nifty icon...I cant delete any of the existing ones in the home folder even if I recreate them and I wonder what the repercussions are if I do it to my music folder i.e itunes etc

Sep 2, 2014My 500gb iMac (purchased April 2010) is about at capacity. 350gb of space is taken up by home movies (.mov) in iMovie. I bought an external hard drive and have moved about 200gb over to that drive.
After transfer, I deleted the original Events off iMovie and emptied the trash. I checked in both iMovie and in Finder and no longer see those files present on the Mac.
I thought this was going smooth and everything worked perfectly, but….when i went to check how much storage space i created on the Mac, the amount of available space barely budged (i moved 200gb of data to the new drive and i created about 30gb of space on the Mac).
Are these "deleted" files hidden somewhere and I need to go delete from somewhere else? How do I make sure I get back the storage that i need?

May 27, 2012I just updated my MacBook to Lion, and I used to have a folder when using Leopard called "Library." I can't find it anymore. The only way to get to it is to open Xcode 4, make a Cocoa application, build it, then right-click the target, then click "Show in finder. This is what the library folder looks like after I do that:
I can still click the folder and it will show me its contents, but once I leave the home folder, the folder dissappears, and I can't find it:

Mar 21, 2012Can anyone explain to me why, on my iMac's 500GB hard drive, the displayed size of the only 4 items on it is 207GB, that the info box on the HD itself says 393GB used? Unless I failed grade 1 math, 500GB - 207GB = 293GB, right? So where's the missing ~100GB? That's a lot of space I know I haven't filled up.
