OS X V10.5 Leopard :: IMac Screen Went Black - Starts Up With Black Display
May 24, 2012I came back from work to wake up my iMac. It made the noise but the screen stayed black. I tried restarting by holding the power button- I can hear it start and the chime but still have a black screen. I tried resetting the pram, and unplugging the cord but I still get a black screen. I can hear the chime though; I'm not sure if that means anything. I just had the hard drive replaced in February so I hope it's not that. just wanted to clarify that when I restart, I get the chime but the screen stays black- I don't get to the grey screen. So I'm assuming right now that my display may be shot?

IMac :: Black Screen Display When Wake Up From Sleep
Dec 21, 2010For the past few weeks it has been going to a black screen when trying to wake it up from sleep. Either I've put it through too much work lately editing all these photos and its really tired. So, often it wakes up normally and functions fine, well, not really. It is seemingly very slow. It requires a lot of time (more than before) to open up a program or it gives me the "spinning wheel of death" when trying to go to a different page on the internet or open up a folder on my desktop. Amongst other things that require it to think. So It's just a lot slower in general than before.

Apr 26, 2012I have a MacBook Pro (13'', Early 2011) & iMac (21.5", Mid 2011) using a Thunderbolt Cable to Target Display. Everything was working find and I could Command F2 to Target Display as expected.However, about a week about this stopped working. Now when I try to Target Display the iMac goes to a Black screen (like it's switching to Target Display) and the MacBook Pro does nothing. The iMac will be at the Black screen until I Command F2 again (or disconnect the Thunderbolt Cable), then the iMac goes back to the normal display. I have tried another Thunderbolt cable with no luck. I have perform all software updates on both machines (now both running 10.7.3) and fixed Disk Permissions. I have also found that restarting my MacBook Pro allows this to function as excepected (Command F2, Blue Flashing Screen, Target Display on the iMac). However, this is not an ideal situation since having to restart my computer is time consuming. Â

Jul 22, 2008So for the first time in over a year since I purchased it, my iMac crashed twice.The first time was this morning, i went to do something and the screen went black, and my secondary display got black and white lines. I had to restart. And the boot screen with the apple logo hung around for a while.
Then, later on the screen went whacky after trying to wake it from sleep (not full sleep just display sleep) and had a bunch of moving lines and then I couldn't see anything. So luckily I got a picture. After restart, it seems fine.I'll call apple care in the morning, but thought i'd try my luck here.

Jun 1, 2014This just started yesterday (May 31st). I keep everything updated as it comes out and nothing new has been installed in the last couple of days.
When I need I wake up my iMac (now requiring a keystroke or mouse press instead of just moving the mouse), the screen comes up black, but the cursor is there and moves around fine.Â
It stays black for a while (15 seconds or longer, but it feels like forever) and then it finally comes up completely.Â

May 7, 2008Middle of last month I bought a 20" IMac. Everything was fine up until about 1 week ago when the screen went black. I clicked on the mouse button several times only to have a password box pop-up. After filling in the response, all was fine.
Next, same scenario but the password box didn't appear any more. The only way to get the screen back was by a forced restart.
I turned off the screen saver, set the 2 controls in energy server to off, unchecked the box at the bottom left & put "auto login" to to on the Accounts window.
Problem continued.
Next move was to zap the pram, this was 2 days ago. The screen didn't go black but often asked for my pw. It's now back to its beginning phase which is a forced restart !!
I was told that it was due to Leopard 10.5.2 & am considering going back to 10.5.1

Dec 2, 2014What is happening to my computer. This is the 2nd time it does this: all of a sudden the screen becomes black with reverse fluo colors.

Jun 4, 2014I have a 27 inch desktop. Upon turning the computer on within seconds the fan comes on. Then it goes to a high fan. Then it goes to a black screen. Then it shuts off. Then if you click the mouse it will come back on. This cycle repeats itself every 5 seconds. Only one time in the past month did it turn on normally and run for me.

Mac Pro :: Black Screen Display On Startup
Sep 28, 2010I have a Mac Pro (Early 2008) running on 10.5.8 OSX with apple 20" display and 16G RAM.
Initially started with my MACPRO not waking up from sleep and has to force the shut down with power button. Finally realised it was due to my Epson scanner connected via USB...
The main issues now is with the display, black screen on startup. I can still control the volume and disk eject/close, just no display. Force shut down with power button numerous time but futile. Finally solved it with SMC reset.
it becomes an on and off issues... and continuously I solved it with SMC reset.... sometimes needed 2 or 3 resets to get it to work,and finally for the past few days... SMC reset can't solve it either... no display on startup, and same thing I can control the volume and disk eject/close. Have tried my monitor on other mac and it worked fine.
Now this is strange. if I let the mac cool off totally,after a SMC reset. the display will comes up fine...
OS X :: No Display At Screen - Remains Black
Dec 2, 2009I was browsing the internet, not doing anything major, put the computer to sleep, came back 10 minutes later... black screen. I messed with it for an hour or so and determined that the video card went bad (I'm guessing. It's a mid 2007 macbook pro with the nvidia geforce 8600m. My secondary monitor remains black as well). In the midst of totally freaking out, I decided to activate the voiceover utility, enable screen sharing (after figuring out a slew of keyboard commands I didn't know about), and logged in from my girlfriends computer.
I immediately closed all the windows and applications that I had inadvertently opened during the blind wtf session, and opened up system profiler to see if it is recognizing a video card. Well, it is! It's listing the video card as a GMA x3100! Is there a secondary card in there? Cause if there is, it's not working either. Or is that just a default they would put in if it doesn't recognize a video card? Doesn't seem likely. Or, because I'm using screen sharing, is it picking up my girlfriends card? It's not, because she's using a GMA 950. Maybe it's splitting the difference?

When I shine on the screen with a flashlight or something, I dont see images. so I dont think its the inverter.Was hoping someone here might know more?Perhaps logic board? not sure what that does btw
MacBook Pro :: Odd Line Appear On Black Screen Display
Jul 8, 2010I have a core i7 MBP with the high res display, and when the display is showing black, a horizontal green line appears on the screen. It is only visible when the screen is showing black or another very very dark color, and the line is not visible with the screen off. It isnt something on the screen, as rubbing it does not affect it at all. I cannot post a screenshot of it, because it does not appear in the screenshot (it does on my screen, because the line is there physically, but on other monitors it is not visible).

Sep 5, 2010So I've got my MBP that I've had for about 4 months, the thing is. It just recently started to have screen flickering issues. I'll be sitting doing w/e as usual and all of a sudden the display goes dark, almost black, for a second, then comes back up again. I have yet to find any trend in when this is happening, but it is definitely happening on battery as well as plugged in, but it seems to be getting worse.any one have any idea what this could be, something I can fix on my own, or should I take it in?

May 11, 2012I have a early 2011 MacBook Pro 13" running the latest version of Lion. I have been using my MacBook with an external monitor since I brought it in 2011 and have had no problems with connecting it to my external monitor. Connected via mini display port DVI adapter and a DVI cable to a Philips monitor.
Two days ago when I plugged the MacBook back in to the monitor I connected and but now only displays a black screen, I can move the mouse off the MacBook screen and over to the external monitor and back but it is not displayed on the monitor. I have tried connecting other devices to the monitor and they work fine.
