Ive got a hd cinema display 23 inch wich stopped working last week.The power led is on, not giving a code or anything.I'm not affraid to open it, it is allready. But i dont see obvious black smoked parts
When I shine on the screen with a flashlight or something, I dont see images. so I dont think its the inverter.Was hoping someone here might know more?Perhaps logic board? not sure what that does btw
My 20" Cinema display doesn't light up. It flashes 3 lights: short,long,short, which I believe is the error code associated with having the wrong power supply plugged in. Display has worked fine for the last few years and this is the power supply which came with the display. The periferals (keyboard/wacom) are getting power and the display doesn't work regardless of if they are plugged in or not. The display was working fine, then the powerstrip it was plugged into was switched off accidentaly. Now it no longer functions. I don't know if the power cord is dead or the brick, but some power must be getting through.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI came back from work to wake up my iMac. It made the noise but the screen stayed black. I tried restarting by holding the power button- I can hear it start and the chime but still have a black screen. I tried resetting the pram, and unplugging the cord but I still get a black screen. I can hear the chime though; I'm not sure if that means anything. I just had the hard drive replaced in February so I hope it's not that. just wanted to clarify that when I restart, I get the chime but the screen stays black- I don't get to the grey screen. So I'm assuming right now that my display may be shot?

I have a Samsung 204B 4:3 21" screen and a 20" Cinema Display from 2004. I want to use the samsung because I prefer 4:3 ratios, but OS X looks seriously on it. I know its something with OS X, because Windows appears nice and crisp.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've just brought a 24" Cinema Display for my Mac Pro, and it is absolutely stunning! However, sitting in front of it a few nights ago, I noticed a tiny money spider walking across the screen, and then stop in the middle. I tried blowing it away, but it seemed quite determined to stay put, so I tried to brush it off, but it remained in the same place! I tried again, and it started to walk away?
Now quite bemused, I took a closer look, and soon realised it was actually walking on the inside of the glass! It tends to avoid bright areas on the screen, and keeps to the dark areas, which is fun if you move a window towards it :-) Just hope it doesn't die on a visible part of the screen, or decide to make a web. Maybe for good luck I should remove the glass and let it run free?
I searched for at least 20 minutes on this subject and can't find anything relating.
A friend of mine will sell me an aluminum 23" that works absolutely perfectly. The issue is a 3-4 inch scratch on the screen.
I just got the brand new 15" MBP with high res screen, and it is paired with the 24" cinema display.
First thing I noticed is the colors are way off between the two monitors and it is very annoying....I have tried calibrating both with no results, they just have way different profiles to be able to match them.
At the weekend I had to leave my Mac on for our Tech support team to fix something remotely.
It seems they set the monitor to not go to sleep and I came back on Tuesday (we were snowed out on Monday) to a monitor that had been on for 3 days solidly.
I have a picture on my desktop that I took in Iceland and now I also have a burned in outline of the icebergs across the bottom third of my screen.
It's most noticeable across darker backgrounds and is a total pain because I'm working with graphics and page layout and have a ribbon of discolouration running through everything.
Is there a way to get rid of this? other than leaving a complex screen saver running overnight?
Which monitor has better resolution... an ACD or the screen of an iMac?
I'm asking this because I'm thinking on selling my 30" ACD and my 17" MBP so I can buy a 24" iMac and a 15" Macbook Pro
My dad has given me a cinema display, 20 inch, about 2 years old. Looks good however, i'm only able to keep it if i can fix it. When someone packed it up into the box they have squashed the box pushing the plug into the screen causing it to pierce the screen slightly and cracking it.

I am a professor and often need to use 2 or more documents to complete a piece of work, e.g. an exam or grant application.When I see the 30" display, it seems sooooo big, I back off, for I fear it will be overwhelming to use.I imagine a 27" display would be fine, although I much prefer the matte finish. I assume Apple will sometime soon offer a 27".
View 3 Replies View RelatedA weird thing has started happening to my Mac Pro today. After using it for a few minutes the cinema display it is attached to on the Mac Pro just goes black. The Mac Pro is clearly still on - the light is on and i can hear the fans. The Mac Pro shows up on my local network and i can connect to it and access files from my Macbook, but screen sharing doesn't work (i just get the message 'contacting mac pro' and nothing else) and i can't connect to shared iTunes library either, which makes me think it is not just a display issue. I cannot wake the computer with the mouse or keyboard, which makes me think it isn't just a sleep issue. All i can do is physically turn the Mac Pro off, start it up and it will start up successfully and then work for a few more minutes before i get the same problem. I have reset the PRAM and SMC and still have the same problems. Can anyone suggest anything else i can try?
I should mention that i have another problem with the Mac Pro in that it has been spontaneously waking up from sleep and starting up from shutdown, and i still haven't resolved this. I don't know if it is connected to the above issue.
I have a Mac Pro (Early 2008) running on 10.5.8 OSX with apple 20" display and 16G RAM.
Initially started with my MACPRO not waking up from sleep and has to force the shut down with power button. Finally realised it was due to my Epson scanner connected via USB...
The main issues now is with the display, black screen on startup. I can still control the volume and disk eject/close, just no display. Force shut down with power button numerous time but futile. Finally solved it with SMC reset.
it becomes an on and off issues... and continuously I solved it with SMC reset.... sometimes needed 2 or 3 resets to get it to work,and finally for the past few days... SMC reset can't solve it either... no display on startup, and same thing I can control the volume and disk eject/close. Have tried my monitor on other mac and it worked fine.
Now this is strange. if I let the mac cool off totally,after a SMC reset. the display will comes up fine...
I was browsing the internet, not doing anything major, put the computer to sleep, came back 10 minutes later... black screen. I messed with it for an hour or so and determined that the video card went bad (I'm guessing. It's a mid 2007 macbook pro with the nvidia geforce 8600m. My secondary monitor remains black as well). In the midst of totally freaking out, I decided to activate the voiceover utility, enable screen sharing (after figuring out a slew of keyboard commands I didn't know about), and logged in from my girlfriends computer.
I immediately closed all the windows and applications that I had inadvertently opened during the blind wtf session, and opened up system profiler to see if it is recognizing a video card. Well, it is! It's listing the video card as a GMA x3100! Is there a secondary card in there? Cause if there is, it's not working either. Or is that just a default they would put in if it doesn't recognize a video card? Doesn't seem likely. Or, because I'm using screen sharing, is it picking up my girlfriends card? It's not, because she's using a GMA 950. Maybe it's splitting the difference?
I have a core i7 MBP with the high res display, and when the display is showing black, a horizontal green line appears on the screen. It is only visible when the screen is showing black or another very very dark color, and the line is not visible with the screen off. It isnt something on the screen, as rubbing it does not affect it at all. I cannot post a screenshot of it, because it does not appear in the screenshot (it does on my screen, because the line is there physically, but on other monitors it is not visible).
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I've got my MBP that I've had for about 4 months, the thing is. It just recently started to have screen flickering issues. I'll be sitting doing w/e as usual and all of a sudden the display goes dark, almost black, for a second, then comes back up again. I have yet to find any trend in when this is happening, but it is definitely happening on battery as well as plugged in, but it seems to be getting worse.any one have any idea what this could be, something I can fix on my own, or should I take it in?
View 7 Replies View RelatedFor the past few weeks it has been going to a black screen when trying to wake it up from sleep. Either I've put it through too much work lately editing all these photos and its really tired. So, often it wakes up normally and functions fine, well, not really. It is seemingly very slow. It requires a lot of time (more than before) to open up a program or it gives me the "spinning wheel of death" when trying to go to a different page on the internet or open up a folder on my desktop. Amongst other things that require it to think. So It's just a lot slower in general than before.

I am actually trying to decide if to get the old 30" cinema display or not.I'm a graphic designer and my fear is that apple will never make a matte display...Here in Italy it's still sold in the apple store. I have the unibody macbook pro, and so I've been reading through reviews now for a week ... my biggest concern is the dual-link dvi adapter... I still see posts (August or September 2010) with people experiencing issues, even with the firmware 1.3!I wanted to ask you people if I should go for it or dig the 27 inch even though it's glossy... I have a few people in the office (also graphic designers) working on iMacs and got used to the glossy.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a MacBook Pro (13'', Early 2011) & iMac (21.5", Mid 2011) using a Thunderbolt Cable to Target Display. Everything was working find and I could Command F2 to Target Display as expected.However, about a week about this stopped working. Now when I try to Target Display the iMac goes to a Black screen (like it's switching to Target Display) and the MacBook Pro does nothing. The iMac will be at the Black screen until I Command F2 again (or disconnect the Thunderbolt Cable), then the iMac goes back to the normal display. I have tried another Thunderbolt cable with no luck. I have perform all software updates on both machines (now both running 10.7.3) and fixed Disk Permissions. I have also found that restarting my MacBook Pro allows this to function as excepected (Command F2, Blue Flashing Screen, Target Display on the iMac). However, this is not an ideal situation since having to restart my computer is time consuming. Â

I have been using my MacBook with an external monitor since I brought it in 2011 and have had no problems with connecting it to my external monitor. Connected via mini display port DVI adapter and a DVI cable to a Philips monitor.
Two days ago when I plugged the MacBook back in to the monitor I connected and but now only displays a black screen, I can move the mouse off the MacBook screen and over to the external monitor and back but it is not displayed on the monitor. I have tried connecting other devices to the monitor and they work fine.

So for the first time in over a year since I purchased it, my iMac crashed twice.The first time was this morning, i went to do something and the screen went black, and my secondary display got black and white lines. I had to restart. And the boot screen with the apple logo hung around for a while.
Then, later on the screen went whacky after trying to wake it from sleep (not full sleep just display sleep) and had a bunch of moving lines and then I couldn't see anything. So luckily I got a picture. After restart, it seems fine.I'll call apple care in the morning, but thought i'd try my luck here.
I have a 2 month old 13" MBP which I absolutely love. The only hitch is that there is an oddity when connected to my Dell 2008wfp display. It only happens when I wake the MBP from sleep. A number of things happen sometimes. Usuaully, when I wake the MBP from sleep, i get a black screen on both displays and all I can see and control is the cursor. Sometimes the main display will be black, but the MBP display will show the desktop wallpaper, but again, I can only see and control the mouse cursor. It should also be worth mentioning that the keyboard is rendered non-functional as well.
Sometimes, OS X will appear on both displays, with mouse cursor active, keyboard inactive, but I am unable to click anything or interact with anything OS X.
Anyway, I'm at the point where I need to mention this because it happens quite frequently and its getting rather annoying. The only way I can get out of this hang, is to cold reboot the machine. It happens everyday and at least 50% of the time I wake the MBP from sleep. When not connected to the display, I never get this occurrence. Also, this display worked perfectly when I used to own the classic 15" MBP, so its hard for me to pinpoint what exactly is the anomaly that is happening.
Anyone else experiencing this same issue? I am using a mini display port to DVI adapter to the Dell display.
Well my unibody macbook display decided to screw up last night, it was working fine last night no problem. Connected to a external monitor. I fell asleep last night with front row left on, obviously it went to sleep and then I woke up and the screen was black. Now the LED lights are working, my external display is also working. The display settings recognize a screen being present (when I click detect displays and gather windows - 2 windows appear). Ive reset PRAM, SMC, reseated the RAM, control+shift+eject (which just made the screen flicker a little after turning it back on) and Im out of ideas. Its out of warranty and about about 18months old.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy Mac Book Pro just stopped accepting commands, the screen is freezing on a black screen and the keys have no bearing on the situation. The only way I can get it to stop is pull the battery out. It has been acting funny lately.
