IMac :: Display Got Black And White Lines / On Starting Screen Goes Blank
Jul 22, 2008So for the first time in over a year since I purchased it, my iMac crashed twice.The first time was this morning, i went to do something and the screen went black, and my secondary display got black and white lines. I had to restart. And the boot screen with the apple logo hung around for a while.
Then, later on the screen went whacky after trying to wake it from sleep (not full sleep just display sleep) and had a bunch of moving lines and then I couldn't see anything. So luckily I got a picture. After restart, it seems fine.I'll call apple care in the morning, but thought i'd try my luck here.

MacBook Pro :: Weird Black Smudges And White Spots On Screen?
Jan 2, 2011I have a 15'' mbp previous generation with the silver keys. I had my trackpad repaired by apple back in March 2010. Since then, these little black smudges and white spots have been appearing behind the lcd screen. The black smudges actually look like dust that got between the screen. I took some pictures and circled them. You can see them better against a white screen. Sorry about the quality of the pics. The first one is the whole screen and the second two are close ups of a black smudge and a white spot.

Sep 6, 2010I'd be grateful for advice: I work on music manuscripts and need a bigger one - 24" presumably - than this 17" mbp I'm typing on.
-As color is not an issue, only sharpness - would a mac display be over-kill? What are the decent, cheap rivals? Would an lcd tv be ok?
-Also, what chance I can use one in portrait mode, driven by my mbp?

May 24, 2012I came back from work to wake up my iMac. It made the noise but the screen stayed black. I tried restarting by holding the power button- I can hear it start and the chime but still have a black screen. I tried resetting the pram, and unplugging the cord but I still get a black screen. I can hear the chime though; I'm not sure if that means anything. I just had the hard drive replaced in February so I hope it's not that. just wanted to clarify that when I restart, I get the chime but the screen stays black- I don't get to the grey screen. So I'm assuming right now that my display may be shot?

MacBook Pro :: Display All Of A Sudden Went To The 'white Screen Of Death'?
Mar 22, 2012My Macbook Pro display all of a sudden went to the 'white screen of death' as I've heard others refer to it as. I've tried zapping PRAM, resetting SMC etc. to no avail. When I connect an external monitor, I am able to use the Macbook without problem, so I know it is video card/controller/display related issue. I'm going to send the Mac in for repairs. But before doing so, I'd like to erase my hard drive so I'm not sending them all of my data with the computer. I've done a time machine backup, so all is fine there as well.Â
My problem, is that in order to erase the hard drive, I need to boot from the OSX install disk. No matter what I try, I can't do this with my external display. If I insert the disk, and hold down the C, my Mac never recognizes the external display plugged in and so I cannot see to get to the disk utility tools on my OSX install disk. I've tried using Command-display dim button, to no avail.Â
I've tried simulating a clamshell mode boot where I close the lid as soon as the boot starts (with the OSX install disk in the drive) and I get a kernel panic every time. Even if I didn't, I don't see how I can close the lid at startup and hold down the C key at the same time. Â

OS X :: Black Screen With A Flashing White Line?
Aug 8, 2009I have an iMac 2.8 24 inch, about Two years old running 10.5.7 , when I start the computer it shows the normal Gray screen for about 30 seconds, then the screen goes all Black , but with a small flashing white line ( _ ) in the top Left hand side corner.
It just stays all Black for ever , I then hold down the On / Off button and turn off the computer, I then hold down the keyboard '' option key '' and press the on button at the same time , then I get the option to start from the main HDD , I click the Icon and the computer then starts normally , and every thing runs ok.
Can some one please tell me what I have to do to get my iMac to start up normally again , Ive run Repair Disk permissions but the problem still occurs . Over the last few day's Ive been trying out a few new applications, so not too sure if this has any thing to do with this current problem

Last Thursday, I left it on for more than 3 hours and it started having black and white verticals lines appearing on the bottom and top part of my desktop and the cursor. Yesterday, when I checked it again, it was still there! What can I do to fix it, WITHOUT going to a Apple store?

Sep 21, 2009Every url that I enter (bookmark, email link, etc.) comes up as 1 pixel by 1 pixel. That's all. It loads instantaneously, doesn't give me an "I cannot connect" error, and displays a blank white screen.
I've tried: many different links
- quitting and relaunching Safari
- reinitializing Safari
- I can still connect to the interweb via Mail, Firefox, iTunes.
Software :: Black Screen With White Type On Boot Up
Mar 13, 2009I didn't have an internet connection so I rebooted the computer -- I wish I'd just rebooted the modem now. When it "rebooted" it didn't boot up but a black screen with a lot of white type saying the start up of various things failed -- it looked like a PC script type thing. Then that type disappeared leaving a black screen and just a white cursor that moves when I hit the space bar. This is the computer for the place I'm working and I'm not even sure what generation Mac it is, though I'll try to find out. I hope, hope, hope that there is some kind of simple resolution to this.

Mar 5, 2012Simply using my Imac for watching tv on the web, Hulu, and left to help my wife get groceries in the house. My wife checked her email and closed Safari.
I came back in roughly 10 minutes from when she shut down Safari to see a black screen with white pinstriping, and the mac being totally unresponsive. Shut down and rebooted, sent off the report to Apple, and am now here with seemingly no problems.Â
Needless to say, as a photographer this computer is just about as important as my camera. Should I be worried? discovered the thread to this issue, which appears to be quite extensive.Â

MacBook Pro :: Odd Line Appear On Black Screen Display
Jul 8, 2010I have a core i7 MBP with the high res display, and when the display is showing black, a horizontal green line appears on the screen. It is only visible when the screen is showing black or another very very dark color, and the line is not visible with the screen off. It isnt something on the screen, as rubbing it does not affect it at all. I cannot post a screenshot of it, because it does not appear in the screenshot (it does on my screen, because the line is there physically, but on other monitors it is not visible).

Aug 12, 2009I am running OSX 10.5.8. A little while ago I successfully Boot-Camped my hard drive and installed Windows 7, but i recently got a new hard drive. I copied over my OSX partition successfully, but didn't copy over the Windows partition. On my new drive I went through the boot camp assistant and created a partition and inserted the Windows 7 disc. But when it restarts, it just seems to hang there- it's just a black screen with a blinking white underscore(_).
I have been told that because I copied over my OSX partition it didn't set up the MBR on the new disk, is their any way to fix this? (besides doing a clean install of OSX)
Are there any software or guides available to help me fix this?

Sep 5, 2010So I've got my MBP that I've had for about 4 months, the thing is. It just recently started to have screen flickering issues. I'll be sitting doing w/e as usual and all of a sudden the display goes dark, almost black, for a second, then comes back up again. I have yet to find any trend in when this is happening, but it is definitely happening on battery as well as plugged in, but it seems to be getting worse.any one have any idea what this could be, something I can fix on my own, or should I take it in?

Apr 26, 2012I have a MacBook Pro (13'', Early 2011) & iMac (21.5", Mid 2011) using a Thunderbolt Cable to Target Display. Everything was working find and I could Command F2 to Target Display as expected.However, about a week about this stopped working. Now when I try to Target Display the iMac goes to a Black screen (like it's switching to Target Display) and the MacBook Pro does nothing. The iMac will be at the Black screen until I Command F2 again (or disconnect the Thunderbolt Cable), then the iMac goes back to the normal display. I have tried another Thunderbolt cable with no luck. I have perform all software updates on both machines (now both running 10.7.3) and fixed Disk Permissions. I have also found that restarting my MacBook Pro allows this to function as excepected (Command F2, Blue Flashing Screen, Target Display on the iMac). However, this is not an ideal situation since having to restart my computer is time consuming. Â

May 11, 2012I have a early 2011 MacBook Pro 13" running the latest version of Lion. I have been using my MacBook with an external monitor since I brought it in 2011 and have had no problems with connecting it to my external monitor. Connected via mini display port DVI adapter and a DVI cable to a Philips monitor.
Two days ago when I plugged the MacBook back in to the monitor I connected and but now only displays a black screen, I can move the mouse off the MacBook screen and over to the external monitor and back but it is not displayed on the monitor. I have tried connecting other devices to the monitor and they work fine.
