I very much wish to upgrade to a larger screen. I presently have the Apple 24" display. I am a professor and often need to use 2 or more documents to complete a piece of work, e.g. an exam or grant application. When I see the 30" display, it seems sooooo big, I back off, for I fear it will be overwhelming to use.I imagine a 27" display would be fine, although I much prefer the matte finish. I assume Apple will sometime soon offer a 27".

Since I prefer to use the slightly larger screen to work off (even though my 17 MBP has more pixel density). So startup the iMac via TDM on my 17 MBP and to my surprise it works! - as my MBP only has leopard 10.5.8. I would have thought these iMacs would not run unless you have SL 10.6 loaded. It worked the 1st time, but crashed (grey vertical shade of death) twice after. On the 4th time it worked again. So that was weird (the inconsistency). Maybe 10.5.8 is NOT meant to be compatible with the new iMac's?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI own 23 and 30" Cinema Displays. I like the 23 because everything is larger and easier to read than in the 30". I mostly work in Logic and love that I see lots of things on the 30" but the 23" is much easier on my eyes.Is there such a thing as a display with 2560x1600 (like the 30" Apple) but that is LARGER than a 30 inch so I can see everything bigger in Logic??? Maybe a 34 or 37"? Did a search but haven't come up with anything other than other 30" displays.

When I open a new web pages in Safari, it closes the current page. I want to be able to open another (i.e., split screens) in safari without closing the current page so I can work between the pages. I'm new to the iMac, but I had this feature on my Windows PC.

I have a 27 inch desktop. Upon turning the computer on within seconds the fan comes on. Then it goes to a high fan. Then it goes to a black screen. Then it shuts off. Then if you click the mouse it will come back on. This cycle repeats itself every 5 seconds. Only one time in the past month did it turn on normally and run for me.

Is there a way to make song names in iTunes display larger like they did in Front Row, so if you are across the room you can pick songs with a remote easier?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI got a nice shiny Windows 7 Asus laptop with Radeon 5780 and good processor. The only thing I don't like about it is the small screen; cause for me, good graphic cards mean nothing if the quality can't be displayed properly.
I successfully installed a game and played it on the Asus pretty fine, and I'm wondering if I can plug in my Asus laptop into my iMac and use it's superior display, and keyboard, too. Could I just download some program and put in a USB or something? I don't want it to be laggy, either
I've got an iMac with a 1TB harddrive and am trying to use a time machine set up to back up my harddrive. The external harddrive I'm using for my back up is also 1TB. I currently have about 135GB of free space on my iMac's harddrive and my external drive is completely empty. When I try to back up using time machine it tells me that the back up is 1.2TB and cannot fit on my 1TB external harddrive. What would cause the initial back up to be larger than the actual computers harddrive? Is there anything I can do to rectify this issue without me needing to purchase a larger external harddrive for back up?

I have a dual monitor setup at present with a 24 inch iMac (waiting for my 27" i7 to arrive) and a 23 inch Cinema display. The problem is that the height of the Cinema Display is much lower than my imac, I currently have it sitting on a couple of metal Oakley sunglasses cases to raise it to the same height as my iMac 24" but it looks messy - does anyone have any great solutions for raising the height of the 23 inch cinema display to align with an iMac 24 or even better 27?
View 1 Replies View RelatedLove my MBA but couldn't resist the temptation to pick up an HP 10" netbook since the Amazon price was pretty cheap ($399). It's a nice little machine which I can throw in my briefcase. However, do a little bit of work on this ten incher and then open up the MBA, and suddenly my 13" MBA looks looks huge! Each machine clearly has it's role. The netbook is fine for my daily train trip to work and to shlep around. It would not accompany me on a trip or for times requiring a lot of work and certainly does not sit in the same universe of power as the MBA, but as Randy Jackson would say, "It's a'right". I think the MBA has won my heart.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI noticed today that some icons that used to be on my desktop have disappeared. Eventually I realized that they were still there but they were not shown on the display screen, they are somewhere off to the sides and above. In fact, in order to click on icons that do appear on my desktop I need to click below them, nowhere near the icon itself.

1 "Put the computer to sleep when it is inactive for.."
2 "Put display to sleep after..."
3 "Put Hard Disks to sleep when possible..."
I'm guessing that #1 won't spin down the Hard Disks unless #3 is checked? Is that right? I'm also guessing that if I'm downloading a file or securely deleting the trash my iMac won't go to sleep? The reason I ask is because it seems like if I'm deleting the trash and my display goes to sleep, when I come back to the computer i really don't see any progress. What options do you guys typically use? I keep my iMac on 24/7, but didn't know about the first sleep option.
So I was in the Apple Store again yesterday and whilst looking around the different versions of the notebooks it suddenly struck me that, with all things considered, the 13" Macbook Pro isn't really a 'Pro'. It doesn't look or feel very Pro-like especially when you consider the lower spec, tiny screen size, and larger bezel. It really strikes home when you see all the 13", 15", and 17" laid out side-by-side on display. I really think by upgrading the 13" name to 'Macbook Pro' Apple are doing a grave injustice to all the customers who could afford and purchased the real Pros'.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have 2 new macs, (24 and 27), only 1 of which I use at a time. It is sinking into my consciousness that ScreenRecycler is the best way to utilize both computers, and to use the 24 as the second monitor, via ScreenRecycler. This is more apt, I think, than TelePort, which works dandy. I make books and I have InDesign on the main computer; and the toolbars, Photoshop, Excel, at al, on the second monitor. I copy and paste a whole lot, and Teleport is not appropriate for that.

I own an early 2008 iMac running Snow Leopard. A few months ago, it started getting a little buggy and running slow, you know, things you would expect from a computer that's now 2 years old. But then it started freezing and giving me "kernel panics". Of course, the first thing I did was install VirusBarrier and remove any and all viruses it could find, and I repaired the disk and disk permissions and ran all the diagnostic tests from the install DVD. Then I left it unplugged for a day, upgraded the memory from 2 GB to 4 GB and did everything a second time. After all that, everything seemed to work just fine.
Now it seems to be starting all over again! This time the virus scan only picked up a few Windows viruses on an old external hard drive and repairing the disk, disk permissions, and running diagnostics turned up nothing. I've done everything I know to do, short of taking the thing back to Apple! Right now, the main issue is this bug at startup that's really just freaking me out. Linked is a video of what happens. The apps that run at startup are BumpTop, HughesNet Status Meter (as of last month), and Brother Printer Utility. [URL]
