IMac (Intel) :: DVD Drive Fails To Recognize Disk Inserted

Aug 23, 2014

I have a mid-2010 iMac.  Recently, it has failed to mount DVDs, either video or data, on a reliable basis.  I have been able to work around it by restarting my iMac, but that doesn't always work.

PowerPC :: Iomega Tools Will Not Recognize When A Disk Is Inserted?

Oct 19, 2009

I am running OS 8.6 and have installed the iomega ware for classic on it (I believe the driver is 6.2.3). The drive will power on when I insert the drive. The drive is recognized by the Iomega Tools but will not recognize when a disk is inserted. The drive does not even try to spin up when a disk is inserted. Iomega tools says no disk is inserted. The only way to eject the disk is to put a paperclip in the "emergency eject" hole.

IMac PPC :: Disk Inserted Was Not Readable By Computer

May 29, 2012

I have a Seagate HD attached to my computer that was working fine with my old iMac, but when I just upgraded to a new iMac Version 10.7.4, 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7, it seems to be doing something srewy. I use that disk for my "Backup" files. Since I have switched it to the new computer, the backups continue to fail. An error message comes up saying "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." I tried to repair the disk, but I get an error message that states that the drive cannot be unmounted.

Intel Mac :: Error Message "The Disk You Inserted Was Not Readable By This Computer"

Jul 5, 2012

I got this message this afternoon "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer" with the options to either "Ignore" or Eject"  This is in reference to my External Hard Drive "Buffalo" 1TB. I just got my Mac 27inch this week and when i got it i hooked up this hard drive to it, historically used on my old windows machine, but was still FAT32 formatted. I was able to upload all my pics to Aperture and music to iTunes. Was able to surf the data no problem. This afternoon i noticed that it was no longer visible in the "Finder" and afre rebooting several times, got this message "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer" Neither the mac nor the HD was moved since yesterday, early this am when it worked.

Some info:I had used this external storage unit for more then a year.I sold my PC today so cant test if the hard drive still works on that. I have the latest 27 inch mac (2.7GHz)Storage is connected to a power source ( I tried both USB and FireWire, both yield the same message)

IMac (Intel) :: Disk Utility Can't Format USB Drive

Aug 22, 2014

I've got a Transcend 8GB usb drive and i want to erase everything on it but i can't. I know that the best way to do this is the Disk Utility (Because Finder can't erase them too. When I drag and drop to the bin, it says "43 files cannot be deleted")

When i attempt to format, this message appears from disk utility: and also, another message appears at the same time.I just wanted to format my disk. But i can still see the content in the disk. But can't copy them to desktop.

Intel Mac :: It Does Not Recognize Disk Containing Photos

May 14, 2012

I inserted a DVD-R into my iMac (which I know contains pictures, viewed on PC) but it only recognizes the disk as being blank.  My machine responds exactly as I assign it to when a blank disk is inserted so I'm assuming the problem is not with my iMac but rather the format of the disk. I do not know which platform the disk was created with nor the type of machine. However, as I stated, I do know for a fact that this disk contains photos as Ive viewed them on a PC.

MacBook :: Won't Recognize New Hard Drive - Even In Disk Utility

Apr 13, 2010

My macbook hard drive crashed, luckily I had just backed up everything. I went and bought a new 320 GB hard drive, I researched and I know it's compatible with my Macbook. I decided to install windows 7 on it first, but the windows 7 installer wouldn't recognize my hard drive. (For the record, my Matsushita superdrive will not read DVDs anymore, only CDs, so I created bootable copies of both my Mac OS X install disk and my Windows 7 install disk, and I've been using a bootable rEFIt CD to boot from my USB flash drive.)

So I booted up the Mac OS X Snow Leopard disk and started disk utility - it recognizes the rEFIt CD, it recognizes the flash drive, but no internal hard drive. The partitioning tool in rEFIt doesn't recognize it either, but I know it's seated correctly because I can hear/feel it booting up with the computer (if i remove the battery and boot with the computer plugged in). I also know it works correctly because I installed it in my girlfriends PC and it recognized it just fine, I even installed Windows 7 on it, hoping the macbook would boot from it.

IMac (Intel) :: Moving Files To External Drive Not Creating Hard Disk Space

Sep 2, 2014

My 500gb iMac (purchased April 2010) is about at capacity.  350gb of space is taken up by home movies (.mov) in iMovie.  I bought an external hard drive and have moved about 200gb over to that drive.

After transfer, I deleted the original Events off iMovie and emptied the trash.  I checked in both iMovie and in Finder and no longer see those files present on the Mac.

I thought this was going smooth and everything worked perfectly, but….when i went to check how much storage space i created on the Mac, the amount of available space barely budged (i moved 200gb of data to the new drive and i created about 30gb of space on the Mac).

Are these "deleted" files hidden somewhere and I need to go delete from somewhere else?  How do I make sure I get back the storage that i need?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Mail Fails To Recognize Names From Address Book?

Jun 18, 2012

If someone has me in their address book as Doe John and sends an email to me at my email address (johndoe@mail.com), Mail.app does not recognize me and asks me if I want to 'Add to Address Book'. The same happens if a sender has a minor change in the Name (such as even a dot in the name) of any recipient, regardless of the fact that I have the correct name in the address book. Mail fails to recognize the recipient even though the email address is identical, and will ask me if I want to 'Add to Address Book'. One would expect Mail to use just the email address and recognize the contact as already being in the Address Book.

1. Mail can't recognize my contact email address

2. Address Book editing

3. Mail doesn't show names from the Address Book

I checked disk utility and it showed up but as a 2TB size ext HD...

I unplugged the Lacie and plugged it back in and all the info showed up correctly.

But ALL the buttons under "First Aid" are greyed out so I cant verify permissions, disk, or repair disk or permissions.

MacBook Pro :: Disk You Inserted Is Not Readable By This Computer

Aug 30, 2014

I have a Macbook Pro with an External 2TB My Book for Mac Hard drive. I used it earlier this week, ejected and disconnected it, went to sleep and then tried to use it the next day and the error message: "The disk you inserted is not readable by this computer." popped up. I have checked partitions, firmware, etc. and all are showing that it is there. It no longer shows up in Finder, though DiskUtility does show it, though it doesn't show any of the partitions, etc. it doesn't even have the name of what I called it.

- I am trying to get access to my files, I NEED them, (don't we all?!?) But seriously, these have hundreds of photos and videos of my college seminary on them and we need them for our 10- year anniversary.

Power Mac G5 :: Using Disk - Utility Verify Disk Fails

Mar 18, 2009

Having a major issue: similar symptoms to others in the forum - with the fan and the computer not getting past the grey apple screen, I booted from the install disk and got to disk utility, at first all options were greyed out and I could not do anything, tried again a few times and finally got to the point where I could run the verify utility, never given the option to repair. When running the utility it failed and said I needed to repair by booting from the install disk and running the disk utility? Going around in circle here - any advice? I am currently running the Apple Hardware test to see if that shows anything...it has been a workhorse and I've NEVER had any issues with it.

MacBook Pro :: System Randomly Disconnects Usb Device / Port Fails To Recognize IPhone

Dec 15, 2010

I have had several issues with the USB on my brand-new Core i5 macbook pro. It randomly disconnects USB devices. I've had the issue with multiple USB devices - same story with each one. Further, iTunes will only recognize my iPhone if it is in the port nearest the magsafe connector. The other port fails to recognize my iPhone entirely. Anyone else having a USB issue on their base 15" that was released today?

Furthermore, any suggestions of what to do about it? I'm having a hell of a time restoring my iPhone with this issue... And the Apple Store is over an hour away-I planned a special trip to buy this laptop.

MacBook Pro :: Error - The Disk You Inserted Was Not Readable By This Computer.

Apr 10, 2012

I recently had a friend fill my hard drive with movies and DVD's. Until this morning I had no problem with viewing the files on my computer and through my tv, other than the fact that I had to download VLC player on my computer as the files were all avi. Last night I noticed that two of the individual files either wouldn't load, or dropped out half way through. I fixed these files by repairing them individually, which solved the problem. This afternoon, my files were working perfectly, with no problems at all.

Tonight, I have gone to plug in my hard drive, and it won't recognise it at all, other than to tell me that the disk I inserted was not readable by the computer. This afternoon my Mac suddenly needed to restart, the grey screen came over and I had no option but to restart my computer by pressing and holding the power button. This has happened before, but hasn't seemed to affect anything?

I've tried restarting the computer and changing the hard drive into a different USB port but neither have made any difference. I've also tried to repair disk in Disk Utility, which hasn't worked either. Is there a way to fix this? Or at least get the files off the hard drive onto another hard drive? The hard drive won't show in Finder so I don't know how to back up the files as Disk Utility suggests I do. The hard drive is a HP SimpleSave, about 2 years old. Never had any problem with it before!

Mac OS X (10.6.8)
