View 1 Repliestransfer my files from my WD external drive to my MBP but to no avail. I installed them both and after that, my WD Elements wont show anymore. It was working before prior to installing MacFuse & NTFS-3G. So I tried to remove them both but still the same problem. It wont detect my WD external drive anymore. The light on my WD drive is lighted up as usual but can't be found on Finder. I also tried to remove the WD external drive from my MBP and it recognises that my WD is there! Its says did not unmount correctly, something like that. I also tried to isolate the problem using another computer, this time, Windows and it works well.
The Culprit of all this is when I install MacFue & NTFS-3G
Just bought the WD Elements external Hard drive, plugged it in... and it won't mount on my G4!
-Checked all USB ports
-Doesn't show up in Disk Utility or System Profiler
What is the hard disk like inside these? Could I take the hard drive out of the enclosure and put it inside my Mac Pro? I have a friend who's WD Elements drive won't show up when she plugs it in, but I haven't seen it or messed with it first hand yet, so I don't know exactly what's going on. She says the light shows up and then goes away, and nothing else happens. If I fail to make it work through conventional means, how do I connect the drive to my Mac Pro in a way that bypasses the drives own AC Power system, which could be the faulty component?

When I type the name and password in it says, Sorry, you entered an invalid username or password. I am 100% sure that I typed in the correct username and password. I recently updated my mac to version 10.5.8.. I noticed ever since I updated my mac that it has been doing this. Also, I do not have the software disc to reboot my computer and reset the password, or however that works. Please help me out this is getting real frustrating especially since I just bought FCP, knowing that it will ask for the password to install.

I have a PowerPC G4 running OSX 10.4.11 that contains a lot of media files. I want to transfer them to my external hard drive (1 tb) so that I can use them on my newer MacBook. I was unable to partition or erase anything on the external hard drive from the PowerPC, because I kept getting an input/output error. I followed the same process and was successful at establishing partitions on my MacBook. Now, I plugged my external into the PowerPC to copy the media files, but it isn't recognizing the partitions on the external harddrive! What did I do wrong?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using an Intenso 2,5" MemoryStation as an external hard drive. I have a few folders with pictures on it and my TimeMachine. When I plug it in it would usually show up on my desktop and start backing up my hard disk automatically. Something has now changed.
My dad gave my Macbook a new hard disk with more storage. When he put it in, he first safety copied all my stuff onto a separate external hard drive - ie. not my own. My Macbook is working perfectly and looks and acts exactly like before. But when I plug in my external hard drive, it now doesn't show up, neither on my desktop nor in disk utility. I can see that the external hard drive is responding as a light switches on and off when I plug it in and out; I don't think it is broken as I have taken very good care of it.
I'm worried that I have formatted my external hard drive so that it will only respond to a (now old) backup of my Macbook, which I can't access from my new hard disk.
I do also have the external hard drive that my dad originally used to backup all my stuff - with the older backup. Is there a way I can have my external hard drive read the new external hard drive (with the old backup of my Macbook)?
My Maxtor 500 external hard drive has suddenly stopped appearing on my desktop. My other external drives appear. I've tried hooking the drive to my MacBook Pro with the same results. The drive however, seems 'active'. The light on the front of the drive does its usual flashing routine when plugged into a new machine. I've never had a crashed drive before. Does it sound like this is what has happened, or does anyone have a clue as to what I should do?

I have 2 Macbook Pro's, a 2009 and this brand new one I got today. My external hard drive is a 1 TB clickfree. It has worked for months on my old Mac but when I plug it into my new mac it doesn't even show up in finder or disk utility. I tried the USB ports with another device and they work fine. So it isn't a hard ware issue. The cables are USB 3.0. The external hard drive model number is HD2037N3.I have tried taking everything off (huge pain) and reformatting the drive and still it doesn't recognize it! how I can get my Mac to recognize it?

I used Super Duper to create a bootable clone on an external firewire drive.
When I restart my MBP holding down the option key I can choose the external drive. OSX (104.11) starts to load and then encounters a name and password popup. Entering the administrator name and password of the original drive fails. Only one account on the machine - still using the admin password originally chosen.
I had a IBook G4 and an external hard drive as its back up.IBook running something like Snow Lepord, anyway I have a Intel Macbook now with Lion, Ive been told here there is a possible confliction between the AMP external harddrive and lion.I will say a few times I have for limited time been able to access the drive on the newer MacBook, but then Lion (I think) drops it.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've just installed Windows on my MacBook with Boot Camp. I decided to format the disk NTFS instead of FAT because everyone says NTFS is safer and more reliable. The problem is, I can't seem to use my external hard drive when using Windows, and can't copy files from Mac OS to the Windows disk because NTFS is read-only. There are some pretty big files I have on my MacBook that I want to use in Windows.
The external drive is a Western Digital "My Book".
Sorry if this is a really stupid question but is there a way of using my hard drive in both Mac OS and Windows? If not is my only option of transferring data from one OS to the other to reinstall Windows as a FAT drive or to use DVD-Rs?
I have 100gigs of music so I successfully transferred my iTunes media to an external hard drive, and identified this new location within iTunes/Preferences/Advanced/Location. Everything worked great until I had to shut down and start up.
Now, it no longer recognizes the media library. When I try to play a track in iTunes, iTunes says the original file could not be found. It prompts me to locate this one track, which I do, and that one track will play. All of the other tracks have the (!) sign next to them in my iTunes library.
I have double checked the settings in my iTunes preferences, everything appears to be configured as when I first made the successful transfer (identifying the external hard drive as the location).
I've made sure to restart once the external hard drive is connected.
I know this has been discussed before but I am completely confused. I've got some GPS maps that I want to load onto my system using the Windows side...but I want to put the maps onto my external hard drive. The hard drive has been formatted to mac
View 5 Replies View RelatedYesterday I reformatted my Macintosh hard drive, partitioned it, installed Snow Leopard on one partition and Windows 7 on the other. I installed all the drivers for Windows 7 from the Snow Leopard disc.
When I plug in my 1TB Seagate external hardrive it's not showing up in Snow Leopard or Windows 7. Not even in Disk Utility. I tried plugging the external drive into my Windows laptop and a pop-up comes up saying "USB Device Not Recognised. One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognise it." I think that this may just be because it's formatted to Mac OSX?
The hardrive had all of my photos, videos and music on so I hope it's salvageable. I find it hard to believe that the hard drive malfunctioned at the same time I reinstalled the software onto the iMac.

For the last week or so I've been having an increasingly regular problem with Mail. Upon launching, the app opens a dialog window saying, "Mail can't connect to the Google account 'Gmail'. Enter the password for user (username)." Then when I enter the password, the app crashes. Sometimes clicking the "Cancel" botton allows the app to open, but sometimes that results in a crash as well. Also, when I can launch Mail successfully, sometimes when I try to send mail, the outgoing mail will sit in the Outbox unsent.
I've been getting these warnings with both my Yahoo and Gmail accounts. Until a few days ago I was using Yahoo as my primary account, but the inability to send mail caused me to switch to Gmail as my primary. After a couple days of smooth sailing, I'm now getting the same errors with my Gmail.
Can someone tell me how to set up a password at bootup that doesn't have to be entered from sleep?

I decided to zero out the drive and when I went to bed last night at around 12am, there were about 6 hours left in the process. This morning at aroud 9am I went to check on the drive, expecting it to be ready to go, but I found it writing a temporary file. The progress bar is about 90% done. Is this part of the normal zeroing out process? If so, how long should this take? If this ISN'T part of the normal process, what should I do?

I am running version 10.4.11 of OS X and would like to find software that will allow for password protection for a folder(s) on an external hard drive used with my MAC. I want others to be able to access most of the files on this drive however. Setting multiple users with passwords will not accomplish what I am looking to do.
