The first time I opened my Safari browser after installing Maverick, I clicked on the wrong thing & closed my browser window where you search & the web addresses show up & where you can refresh the page. How do I reopen it so i don't have to go to the menu bar everytime I need to search for a new page or refresh the existing one?
View 2 RepliesOk so today my 27" iMac (10.6.2) was acting kind of weird. In safari and chrome webpages would spontaniously crash for no reason (on my macbook, the same webpages were fine). So, to try and fix this issue, I decided to restart my imac. After all the applications quit, I was left with a blank screen with my wallpaper. It stayed like this for several minutes, so I decided to just hold the power button to force the imac to turn off. When I turned it back on, my user name was not displayed in the login window. All there was for accounts was "other" and a network symbol. When I click other and entered my user name and password, it did not work. I am sure I was using the correct password and username. I also tried: username: root, but that also did not work. So i rebooted again and the same "other" still was there without my real account. So i booted into my Mac OS X install dvd and I repaired the disk and all the permissions (there were a lot of things to repair). I thought that this would solve the problem, but it did not.

My 2 1/2 yr. old granddaughter has once again gotten a hold of my keyboard. I have managed to resize the browser window. Trouble is all of the text is so large that in an open window I have to scroll side to side to view the whole page. The text is also slightly blurry.

My Grand Son and a friend of his recently visited and somehow they changed the appearance of my display. At the top of the screen I used to have a bar that showed what website I was on and if I wanted to change web sites I just had to type in the new website I wanted. Now there is a grey stripe that only shows my favs and the forward and reverse arrows. Not very tech savvy so the terms may not be the correct ones, how to return to the previous settings.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded to Mac Yosemite...30min ago, I was on the Chrome browser and happened to throw the browser to the right. Fyi, I'm not using mighty mouse and have only 1 monitor. When I tried to bring it back to the center, I couldn't find it in anywhere on the right side of the monitor. It was gone.
But in the dock, chrome was showing that it's up and running just fine. I was also able to see that all the tabs were still open. Thinking it's some glitch, I restarted the computer but when I clicked on Chrome, the issue remained same. And even after uninstalled, reinstalled Chrome!I can see the top menu (as in the attached pics, the open browser is firefox) but browser doesn't appear at all.
No matter what I try so far, it just doesn't work. I can also click on those top menu, such as preference or history, but no window would pop up.
First I thought it was Chrome issue. But when I tried moving Firefox to the right, but hoping it at the edge of the right side of the screen, firefox was also about to disappear. The browser became very transparent. Because I still had Safari to use, I let go of the browser when it turned super transparent, then pshhhhhht! It's gone, too. Now firefox is showing the exactly same symptoms: open in the dock and the top menu but no browser, etc.

I have a 27" mid-2011 iMac - today I upgraded it to 16GB RAM and added an SSD (in addition to the existing hard drive). The memory upgrade I performed myself but the SSD upgrade was done by a qualified tech.Now my internal speakers no longer appear as an audio output device, instead I have a "digital out / optical digital-out port".
I cannot adjust the volume (my menu bar volume icon is greyed out) and no sound plays either through the speakers or connected headphones once I login, however I hear the startup chime when I first turn it on, so this doesn't appear to be a hardware problem - it is perhaps a driver issue?
Is there any way I can rectify this without reinstalling OS X? I plan to install Yosemite on the SSD once it's out but would prefer to wait rather than installing Mavericks on it first.I have already tried resetting my SMC, resetting my PRAM a few times and also reinstalled the 10.9.4 combo update, but neither have resulted in any changes.

I'm just wondering how many of you like to run your browser windows fully maximized to take the whole screen or have them just a bit big enough. I used always like having my current app always fully maximized but now that I'm using a Mac and OSX I size them down, which feels and looks really cool.

my imac 24 2.93ghz 2009 late ,shutdowns unexpectedly when i starting to do something like opening browser o email client , i checked all fans ,
and i thought what the problem is cpu fan so i replaced it , still getting the same problem .
After fan was changed i did PRAM and SMC , still same problem.
IS it possible what it can be power supply , or hdd ?
I forgot to mansion what in disk utilities i check hdd permissions and verified hdd,it seams what everything is all right .
I don't subscribe to these feeds and don't care to, so how can I get rid of the RSS located in the browser address window?

Not by trying to open a new window or going into my history and opening the Apple page. This is really frustrating since I hate Firefox (Way slower than safari has ever been for me) and now I can't even use Safari.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy iMAC is about 18 month old, and I had a software upgrade notification for my Safari browser.When I clicked on it to upload, a program from dll.ultimatesoft was seen on the screen, and asked me to approve and install. That message will not go away. The drop down box bounces up and down the screen. I re-booted, but it is locked. I tried typing in a different web address, and was semi-successful, till the ultimatesoft screen took over again in 60 seconds.

I work all day on my MAC 27" and am constantly opening files....
But how do I customise the 'open file' window. Every time I open a file I have to increase the size of the window, change the view and then look for my files.... is there a way to set the default view to what I would wish it to be?
I have enclosed a screen shot of the default open file window.... I would like a bigger window...... and be able to see 'list view' as opposed to icons each time.

How can I view mail messages in a smaller window? when I open a message it takes up the whole screen of the iMac. It is also very small writing. I tried clicking on the green button. This works on my mac book pro but not on my iMac. When I try zoom to make the text bigger it does not wrap around.

I have previously used the GRAB utility to take a snapshot of an open Safari windiw, and the snapshot included the entire windiw contents. When I opened the snapshot in Preview, I could scroll up and down and view the entire contents of the original Safari windiw. Then, I tried it again a few hours later on a different Safari window, but I then got only the part of the windiw that was visible in the browser at the time that I GRABbed the window (i.e., when I took the snapshot).What do I need to do to get the entire windiw?

The sound has just disappeared on my 2 month old iMac. I noticed it wasnt that loud at highest volume and then sudenly nothing at all. I've restarted twice and get the start up noise. I have also opened and closed Garage Band and nowt.
