When I start my iMac, a few programs start along with the computer. I don't want any programs starting by default. I have reviewed the Preferences of these programs, and see nothing to uncheck regarding auto startup. And I don't see anything related to this in System Preferences. How I can start the computer without programs starting with it?
I use an Macbook from 2006 with OS X 10.7.5...MyDay starts up every time I switch on. I don't use it, so want to remove it from the list of programs which start automatically. I have followed all instructions for doing this, and have of course unlocked and relocked the relevant page in Systems Preferences, but the instruction never 'sticks', and MyDay still starts every time.
Moving on....today my iMac was acting sluggish, I powered it off and on and the screen initially was pixelated. It then went into recover mode. When I tried the disk repair, the message indicated that it could not be repaired. I called support and they suggest that I hook up my mac mini and go into target disk mode. I did this but it wouldn't mount so I wasn't able to move any files. how to retrieve my files and restore my computer?Â
It's a 2.16 intel Core 2 duo with the ATI Radeon X1600 128MB video and I'm running OSX 10.7.3. It started happening on Snow leopard so I thought maybe upgrading to Lion would fix it but it has continued exactly the same. I've had an issue for a while now where the computer would just freeze all of a sudden. It happened after a few days at times while sometimes it happen right after a reboot. Â
Here are the things I've tried.Â
1. I upgraded to lion
2. I replaced the ram
3. Look at the crash log but found nothing
4. Ram mem check utility but it found nothingÂ
I can boot the computer in safe mode by holding the shift key and it works perfect with no freezing but I loose audio support becuase I think it's not loading the audio drivers. Question is: Can I select what drivers I want on boot when starting in regular mode not safe mode in order to try to disable drivers until I find the issue? Is there anyplace else that I can find which driver caused the computer to freeze after a freeze/crash? If I can ID the driver is there a way to update/replace the driver if it doesn't come up in "software update"? I'm thinking it's the video driver becuase I would occationally get some weird things happening on the screen that I attributed to an older display.Â

did a quick search on Apple, and here but didn't turn up much of anything useful. I've got a friend with an iMac that won't boot up. Pressing the power button doesn't seem to do much of anything. I've tried unplugging the power cord, and re-plugging it, but alas, I got the fan to rev up for a second and then blahh, nothing again. It's a 20" model with the black bezel. Not entirely sure of the system specs, I only got a couple minutes with it last night. Do these machines have any common problems like this?
how to prevent certain photos and videos from showing up on search/spotlight? When you go to Mac HD and click "all images" or "all movie" there are certain ones I would rather not have seen by anyone on my computer. Is there a way to keep these files private?
I was watching movies fine last month, and now when i put a dvd in it shows up black. at first, i thought it was because of the type of dvd, but then i realized something was wrong when i put in the movie that i just watched and it showed up blank. it does not have any scrathes on it and i have iDVD what do i do!!
Upon starting My Intel iMac, it stops at the Apple logo. I have restarted it several times and tried to hold down the "r" key while starting to enter the restore mode...nothing but the Apple logo. OSX 10.7.5
Suddenly Iphoto wouldn't start, so I tried to buy an update on App store, but it didn't work. When I click on Iphoto, it starts but Iphoto doesn't open, it just open the window and a circle keep running. What can I do?
My 2014 21" iMac powers itself down after about 10 seconds while trying to startup in safe boot mode. I'm not even sure why it is trying to start in safe boot mode. I shut it down after a power outage while plugged into an APS UPS. I'm guessing that since I interrupted the auto shutdown it is restarting in safe boot mode. Either way, I get a grey screen with a big apple and a progress bar. The progress bar gets to about a tenth full and the power just shuts off.Â
I've tried starting up while holding the alt key to select the Macintosh HD. The same thing happens.
I am just new here, and not really a tech guy so I was in panic when I encountered the issue with my MacBook Pro. I will be as detailed as possible here so you might be able to help me out with my problem. I encountered network issue of not able to connect so I first did a RESTART but the restart did nut push through. It ended up in black screen only for a long time. Having no response, I hard booted the machine by doing a long press on the power key. The machine totally shut down after. After a couple of minutes, I pressed the power button and my laptop started. I can hear the usual sound during restart. After a couple of minutes, the MAC logo appears with a gray background, the usual start process. However, what alarmed me is that it stayed in that screen forever, it did not continue. The keyboard lights are also off, which is usually lighted when I had successfully powered my laptop. I am sure there are sufficient battery since I also checked on the battery indicator. having waited for more than 30 minutes, nothing happened and the display is the same (the Mac Logo in gray back ground). I did another forced shutdown by doing a long press on the power button. After 6 hours, hoping some time would make it work, I tried turning on the laptop, however I am still getting the same screen.
I have an old G4, think its a powerMac, not sure. It was given to me. When i try to boot up, its loading up, but its stuck at "login window starting" screen.
My computer hangs on startup. It's a PowerBook 12 G4 with 10.3.9.
First, the screen flashes black, then blue, then I get the normal startup progress bar. At the end, though, it hangs. If the ethernet cord is in, it hangs at "Waiting for network services" or something like that. If the ethernet cord is out, it hangs at "Login window starting".
The bigger problem is that my system install CDs are in the U.S., and I'm in China for the next six weeks.
I am currently using osx lion, I have a behaviour to shut down my computer and let the application that currently running closed by itself during shut down (including massive finder windows). But when I turn on my computer again, those windows reappears. While it might be a nice feature, its really bothering for me. Is it possible to tell osx lion NOT to open the last windows opened during shut down? I am also curious if its possible to do this on safari. I have limited bandwidth, and opening the last windows is annoying.
I installed all the Software Updates available, including the iSight and Airport updates (mainly to get rid of them, and I may add these later to my G5 iMac), and now when I reboot, I get no further than the "Starting Windows Login" part...
I have to assume its something to do with adding the updates as it was all working fine before then...
I can start in Safe Mode fine, and I get in OK, but normal boot halts (no errors, mouse works, just goes not go any further) at the "Starting Login Window"
Any thoughts on how to either A) Reverse the Updates B) Get around this?
Just wondering if there is anyway to block internet access temporarily.(not on my computer, but I was wondering if I could to some wacky-code stuff and such to prevent access on another computer that is in my network) The reason why I am asking this is because I think there isn't enough bandwidth to go around my house (there are 2 xbox 360s hooked up to live, and 3 computers hooked up). But just wondering if this is possible to do because ever since my step sister came here for the summer, I have been getting dced non-stop.
I recently received an iMac as a "gift"... turns out it has some problems. I am unable to reinstall the default OS (Mountain Lion) because I have yet to be able to partition the HDD correctly. The error I keep getting is:Â Partition failed with the error: Wiping volume data to prevent future accidental probing failed. At this point, the default Macintosh HD isn't showing, so it must of been erased/deleted.Â
My MacBook Pro has just stopped recognizing my Apple Mouse and Wireless keyboard. I just did an update. It is showing my bluetooth icon as unavailable.
Suddenly my emails are taking up the whole screen so I have no editing options.. I cannot minimize without the options.. When I have emails up I have no dock icons.
The first time I opened my Safari browser after installing Maverick, I clicked on the wrong thing & closed my browser window where you search & the web addresses show up & where you can refresh the page. How do I reopen it so i don't have to go to the menu bar everytime I need to search for a new page or refresh the existing one?
my mail is not showing new emails, it first stopped showing the number of emails, then new emails stopped coming in. iPad works fine no trouble with mail there. used the connection doctor and all good with the servers. how i can get it working again.
I have a new MacBook Air and an IPhone. When I send text messages on my iPhone they seem to show up in Messages on my macbook. I don't want my texts to be connected to my Macbook . What steps do I need to take to make sure my text messages only stay on my iPhone.Â
I work all day on my MAC 27" and am constantly opening files....Â
But how do I customise the 'open file' window. Every time I open a file I have to increase the size of the window, change the view and then look for my files.... is there a way to set the default view to what I would wish it to be?Â
I have enclosed a screen shot of the default open file window.... I would like a bigger window...... and be able to see 'list view' as opposed to icons each time.Â
How can I view mail messages in a smaller window? when I open a message it takes up the whole screen of the iMac. It is also very small writing. I tried clicking on the green button. This works on my mac book pro but not on my iMac. When I try zoom to make the text bigger it does not wrap around.
