I bought my machine about 3 weeks ago (8 core 2.8ghz), didn't think I'd need the graphics as I'm a console gamer so I stuck with the ATI 2600XT.
Over the past week I've really been getting into gaming on my mac pro (the 12gb of Ram helps!)
Can I buy an off the shelf 8800GT and upgrade the card myself or do I need a special apple voodoo version?
also, if I can buy one, anyone know which? I have no idea and so far online I've seen -
Xpertvision 8800GT 512mb
Gigabyte NVidia 8800GT 512MB
RETAIL XFX NVIDIA 8800 GT 512mb
and about 10 others, all claiming to be the 8800GT but the prices vary
I have two M1960G/A Apple toner cartridges that have been sitting on a shelf for about two years. Does anyone know if they have a shelf life, and if they are still usable?
View 1 Replies View RelatedA week or so ago I was browsing late at night and remember seeing some shelf like device that attached to the aluminum upright on the 20" ACD and would hold a mini. It was NOT a VESA mount. Does this ring a bell with anyone?
View 6 Replies View RelatedA friend was just given a PowerBook G4 in perfect condition (seemingly). It has just been sitting on a shelf for several years and worked fine before it was shelved.
Now when she plugs it in, the orange light on the cord lights up orange, but when she tries to boot the machine, nothing happens. I mean nothing.
Is there something simple that this could be? Wondering if there is a little battery inside that is needed that could have gone dead over the years of idle sitting, or something like that. I just don't know PowerBooks very well.
What kind of backpacks do you guys use for your MBP? I have a 2.4 17', and I really would like a backpack. I looked at [URL], and they're packs are pretty sweet; although, they are a bit expensive. Does anyone have one and would like to give me some reviews on it?
View 24 Replies View RelatedSince I just got my new i7 mbp, I really want a good backpack to take my mbp to college, trips, etc.. Since there are so many different types of notebook packpacks, I really want one that someone can recommend me. I want a backpack that is really safe for my mbp. For example, a backpack that can handle the notebook with books. The one I saw recently was the aftpack from speck. But I want to make sure If I can get something better than the aftpack, or not.

currently have 13 macbook but getting either 13 mbp or 15 mbp...looking for an X-RAY friendly packback since I travel frequently. Have read about the Brenthaven Pro-Style but am also looking to see what else is out there. Has anyone purchased either the brenthaven or another pack they are with?
View 11 Replies View RelatedNot bought my MBP just yet (waiting for credit card) but Im looking at a backpack to protect it.I need space for the essentials for the laptop (charger, mouse , ... ) and also room for at least a big water bottle (1.5 litres) and a lunch box as I like to take food to work and be very hydrated during the day :P . Does any one know of a back pack that could meet my demands?I want something with plenty of padding, looking to also consider actually getting a light weight cover for the laptop to protect it from scratches too..
View 11 Replies View RelatedYes I know that is a tall order, but is there a backpack out there which looks nice, accommodates the macbook pro 15" and also a fair amount of room for school books?
View 24 Replies View RelatedI'm going to the Apple store to purchase a 13" laptop today! Thanks to those who offered their opinions. Now I'm in the market for a laptop sleeve and backpack. I'm one of those people who like to buy things that are still made in America, and I've found two products that fulfill that.Chrome Backpacks and Colcasac Sleeves
Are these products worth the price premium? The reason I'm interested in the Chrome Backpacks is that they say they are weather proof (which is important for where I live) and extremely tough. Does anyone have experience with Chrome products? Also, I'm not sure which size to get. I'll probably need to fit in a text book, a macbook, and a few single subject notebooks.
Now onto the Colcasac products. Once again, does anyone have experience with this companies products? Do they offer nice protection? I'm open to suggestions so feel free to try and sell me on a particular company or item.
If I put my comp on sleep mode, could I put it in my backpack and move around? OR is the hard drive still actively on and it may dmg my cpu/hard drive?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI am doing a presentation for a class thingy in technology about new media and i'm trying to express how when macintosh youtubers started uploading video blogs when they switched to intel/intel made iMacs and about this media blah blah blah. In the pic attached is that a iMac G5 or intel. I see spot light on the top right so it's either running tiger or leopard. I thought I saw a apple remote magnetic thingy on the side. Did the iMac g5 have one?
View 21 Replies View RelatedHow to make sure the iMac I received which was ordered from Apple online store is brand new? from the packaging or through the OS setting? The reason I asked is because I ordered an i7 iMac on 16th early morning around 7:45am and I got the email on the same day at 22:45 saying it's been shipped ??!! Of course I'm happy that I can get it that fast, but Isn't it too quick for a BTO product? or could it possibly be someone's returned iMac?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI?m a long time lurker and this is my first time posting. I?ve been a PC guy all my life and the only apple product I own is the iphone (which I now can?t live without). My current PC is a $300 Acer laptop from 4 years ago (you can imagine how powerful it is :-P ). I?ve decided it?s time to upgrade and now is the perfect time to finally make the switch over to the Mac. I?m just really unsure about what route I should go with given how I will use the machine and I?m humbly coming before you guys for your opinions! I?m under a budget but I?m willing to pay to meet my computing needs, short of springing for a power mac.
View 24 Replies View RelatedSo I have had a chance to play with the iMac a bit. The 27 is big...in fact too big, hehe. Part of the problem is that things are really small. An important question I have, is there a way to make the menu bar bigger? The dock can change easily...but it would nice to make the menu big too.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo my early 2010 iMac has 8gb of memory (4 x 2GB modules).I happen to have 2 spare 4gb modules that are from a MacBook pro of the same era - i.e they are DD3 1066Mhz and they will fit.So question is - if I take out two of the 2gb modules and replace them with 2 of the 4gb machines - will the machine work and will it see the full 12gb ( 2 x 2gb plus 2 x 4 gb)?
View 12 Replies View RelatedSomeone on this forum posted a complaint about his new iMac being pretty noisy in comparison with his previous 2.8 Ghz iMac. Could any of the owners of the new 2.93/3.06Ghz iMac comment on this issue? Do the new machines get really hot and make awful noise? Or are they pretty silent? The noise is a real dealbreaker for me.

screen goes bananas colors flash, weird lines appear, entire screen looks like some high-tech explosion.it is possible to make out some distorted images, but basically it is unreadable. Is my Mac dead or is there an easy fix?
Info:
iMac, Mac OS X (10.4.11)
My father has an iMac G4 circa 2003, currently running 10.2.8. He hasn't used it for a long while. This OS can connect to the internet, but the browser is incapable of loading content. What can I do? I don't want to go through finding and investing in all the OS upgrades if the computer doesn't have the storage space or capability to run them, and/or I still won't be able to use an upgraded browser with it. He's quite elderly and out in the country, so bringing it in to a Genius bar is out of the question.

I got a white iMac G5 about a year ago. Everything has been working fine until recently when I started to notice that its REALLY SLOW. What I mean by this is that whenever I try to open an application, load my widgets or basically do anything, it is really slow and Im seeing A LOT of beach balls. Just as i started typing in the title for this tread, it gave me a beachball. This computer is not that old so it should still be running smoothly.
Does anyone know why this is happening?
btw: I have 1GB of RAM, but it still operate really slow when I only have a few application open.
I just purchased a 24" iMac. This is my first Apple machine. How do I make the text fonts look bigger while still retaining the 1920x1200 resolution?
