screen goes bananas colors flash, weird lines appear, entire screen looks like some high-tech explosion.it is possible to make out some distorted images, but basically it is unreadable. Is my Mac dead or is there an easy fix?

problem:
1.I create a new slideshow with any random pictures
2.I click preview or play slideshow and I see a distorted image. basically it looks like two copies of the photo are laid on top of itself on the a triangular portion of the screen.
troubleshooting done so far:
1. I tried exporting to a video file to see if its just my monitor, but the file also displays the same junk image on another monitor.
2. ive turned off all transitions and effects on the slideshow.
3. Also I tried another profile.
iDVD is doing the same thing as well. Any animated dvd menu I choose ends up screw up on my screen. It appears anytime i A. use iphoto to make a slideshow or B. make an IDVD menu the video is corrupted somehow.
I will have to find an ilife disc and try reinstalling, but im thinking it might not be the application's fault.
im not sure what else to try.
This is the first time ive attempted creating a slideshow on this machine so i do not know if it has ever worked before in previous iphoto versions.
note: I would like to fix this problem and not bypass it with another program.
I was using safari and my screen locked up. Large areas got distorted and little (maybe 1/8" blocks) started flickering all over the screen. It wouldn't recognize any input from my keyboard or mouse. This really scares me for a number of reasons: I wasn't doing anything very difficult to cause the crash, The computer has basically nothing on it, and the reason I bought a mac was for its stability. I head back to school tomorrow (read: I head far away from a mac store), and I need to know if I should go by the mac store before I leave. It's a 27" i5 if that makes any difference.

I wrote on this forum a while ago about problems with my macbook (I did a security update that stopped midway, which lead to the disappearance of my dock, inability to drag or minimize items or to shut down properly, etc.) I managed to fix it and now safari is acting weird. When I go to one page, it will load but safari will quit, it freezes on on twitter, and the images and words on facebook and youtube are aligned to the left. how do i make it possible so that it won't quit or freeze, and how can i align images and text to the center on youtube and facebook?

When I try to copy them again, there is a message that I cannot modify invisible images. These images were originally downloaded to a windows-based computer and copied to the flash drive. I understand these machines burn images into screens sometimes, but they fade back to normal after a while. My issue is that its taking less and less time to burn images into my screen. It's so bad, I avoid using the left side of the screen because simply leaving anything there for a full minute burns the crap out of it. Oddly, this only effects the left third of the screen.
I remember taking it up to an apple store (not fun, considering none are near me. The address their tech support gave me actually went to a pawn shop.) but they simply told me to leave the itunes visualizer running every now and then.
Back then it was just mildly irritating. Now I cant do anything with that side of the screen! Would replacing the LCD resolve this issue?

I've noticed that finder, automatically saves unnecessary spam images and mixes them in with my important images, is there someway of either adding a spam label, to them, so they end up in another folder, or completely stopping the saving process entirely?

I need Ti delete all these images but can get to that point before it freezes. I'm totally stuck, any ideas?? I have a proposal to finish tonight and I'm losing my mind.

When I receive a jpg (not a jpeg) from a mac via email it wont open in either outlook or picture viewer etc (win xp). But if the same image is sent to any other PC (from the ma user) it opens OK.The added twist. If another pc user opens (which it does with no issues) then closes and sends back to the failing pc it opens with no issues!
I have an Imac at work, and it is agonizingly slow. Plus Photoshop CS2 is breaking up images so they are unworkable and is corrupting them. The hard drive says there is 202 GB available so -- is this a scratch disk problem and if so, why isn't 200 G enough? Does anyone have any help as to what I can do to speed this up? I have ordered (or are ordering at some point) another stick of RAM - but I am quite sure the problem is not going to be completely solved with that.

I'm trying to clean out my photo images. I bought a new/refurbished 27" Mac 2.8 Quad desktop and I plugged my cell phone into it to recharge it and I accidentally let it suck up all the photos from my cell phone which were a LOT! I deleted a lot of them but there's a lot that won't empty from my trash bin. The message I get is "The operation can?t be completed because the item ? ####? is in use." (I inserted ### just for this post). I do know there's some photos being used in Picasa Photo albums but theres dozens I have no clue where they're being used. I don't see them in my iPhoto anywhere or Photo Booth..etc etc or my regular Picasa App. A lot of the photos that are in my Picasa Photo albums aren't photos I resized or turned clockwise.counter clockwise and such...and would like to delete those...but can't find them anywhere and this Mac is only a month old. Is there any way to find out where I can find the photos and stop them out of being "used" as the message I keep getting from my trash bin keeps saying?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI was transferring images from my Transend 32 GB memory card when halfway through something happened and only half the images copied properly. The other half are greyed out, I cannot view the thumbnail and when I try to do anything with it it says "one or more of the items in "IMG_9203.CR2" can't be changed because they are in use. The memory card is empty now and I can't figure out how to get back my images!

I am importing 500 gig of photos which have been obsessively organized on my pc. When I import them (only 1.5 gig this first time), the images are being moved from their original folders and organized by date in iPhoto. I'm sure there is a setting somewhere that I need to tweak, but I haven't been able to find it. Having looked closer, I see there are multiple folders for each year, with seemingly no logic to the pictures that are placed in each.

View 21 Replies View RelatedLately my Macbook's sound has become distorted while playing videos or watching flash videos/streams. This doesn't happen all the time, it seems to happen most when my computer is overloaded (which happens a lot due to the Safari Flash plug in). The distorted sound is not just in the video, but the entire computer is effected (any sound including iTunes music/volume control sounds/etc). I found a way to fix it, which is to plug in a pair of headphones into the audio out port (which then plays sound normally through the headphones) and then when i unplug it the sound is all fixed when playing from the speakers.
I want to prevent this from happening again though because it's annoying enough when Flash video starts chugging in Safari. Whenever it f*cks up the sound I get even more pissed that I have to go grab a pair of headphones to fix the problem. This happened like 5 times today. I have SL, if that matters since I never had this issue when Leopard was installed.
I noticed that when I browse in Safari, I get a distorted menu bar after a while. It generally pulls in content from the page that I'm browsing. When I use Chrome or Firefox, I don't have this problem at all. I'm running a 1.6 Ghz MBA Rev. A. I have had issues with graphics lines in the past too.
