I recently replaced the RAM on my aluminum iMac from 1gb to 4gb. Can I put the 1gb RAM in my older white iMac which has only 512mb RAM? These are the exact 2 iMac's I have.(not my pic)

At any given time I may have all of Adobe CS plus Office and a few other apps running -- and a gazillion fonts. Went to the store and saw the new 24" iMac. How would a new iMac compare to my late '04 1.8DP G5? On that same note, how would a new MacBook Pro compare to the above?

If it's big enough I'll use my student discount to get a new mac with an iPod and then sell the iPod for the price difference, but that is a lot more work and initial money spent vs just getting a refurb. I used Migration Assistant to migrate the data and setting from my old MBP (running Leopard) from my Time Capsule backup onto the new MBP. All went smoothly, and I used the new computer for a day to check all was well. This included testing Time Machine on the existing Time Capsule - all the old backups were there and it worked perfectly. the new computer also successfully added to these backups. So I wanted to refresh the old mac, so I booted from the old Leopard install disk, wiped the drive with Disk Utility, and did a clean install of Leopard. All was fine. Now I connected to the Time Capsule and attempted to use Migration Assistant to put a my stuff back onto the old computer. It wouldn't do this (couldn't see any backups). Does Migration Assistant only allow transfers from old systems onto new, not the other way round? This is a major bummer, if so. How can I get my stuff from my new computer back onto my old? Do I have to upgrade the old one to Snow Leopard in order to do this?

it appears my graphics card on my old iMac G5 is toast. I took it to the Apple Store and they said they'd have to replace the whole logic board for around $680. After searching around this forum, that does appear to be the only fix. My question is this: is the graphics card on the newer iMacs soldered into place as it was in the older iMacs (G5 and I believe the first gen Intels as well)? Because, if so, that is really lame and may affect my computer replacement decision.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI just recently bought an imac computer and my two friends who know a lot about apple computers thought that the fans and temperature might be a little high. The cpu fan at idle runs at just under 1200 rpm's, the harddrive fan runs at 1100 rpm's and the optical drive fan runs at 1000 rpm's. The temperature itself 40-44C. The other imac that they know of is a year old, so we weren't sure if there were newer upgrades that might be making the difference between our speeds and temperature compared to that one.
View 4 Replies View RelatedLooking for some advice as to how to find my iTunes library as I just installed iLife 08 with iTunes in the package but when I click on iTunes to load it up it comes back with this message "The file iTunes Library cannot be read because it was created with by a newer version of iTunes". Don't understand this. Now when I go into iDVD to create a new DVD and click on 'audio' I can see my old list of iTunes.
Anyone know how I could go about finding this and bringing this into the new iTunes 8 which was loaded with iLife 8. I'm almost 70 years old and not quite up to speed you might say. My problem re this is a lot of the library songs which were on iLIfe 6 version of iTunes belong to my daughter who does not have the internet so she comes over and uses mine for her iTunes downloads.
I have an old iBook G4 laptop and a newer iMac (OS 10.5.8). Since getting the iMac, I've neglected the laptop and so the info on it is old. I would like to synchronize these two computers and bring the laptop up to date with the iMac. Basically, I'd like to erase the laptop and then have it be a copy of the iMac. Given that I'm not very techie, how do I do this please?! And how long would it take? Thanks for any help.

The problem is, I have an extension cable running from a under the desk to connect the keyboard to the computer. Will this cable allow me to get 2.0 speed from the keyboard ports or do I have to buy a new extension cable? Also, do other brands of keyboards and mice work with Macs without any issues?

The SuperDrive in a oldish iMac ca 2007 (Intel Core 2 Dual Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz; Mac OS 10.6.8) refuses to allow me to burn DVD's all of a sudden; the disc just gets rejected. Used to work fine.
Anyway, I've a new external drive which I use with a MacBookAir but this doesn't seem to work on the iMac. No power to it.. zilch. Works OK on the MBA, etc.Am I right in assuming there's no way the external drive will work with older Macs?
My daughter has an older iMac (with Firewire, but probably about six years old, it runs 10.3.9) and is adding a new iMac to her home. The older one will be for her children's use, and she and her husband will use the new one. Now for the problem. The old iMac doesn't have an Airport card; one would have to be added in order for both iMacs to have internet access.

So My name is Lindsey and I have been an avid apple supporter. However in the last two weeks I've come extremely close to selling everything apple I own and going back to windows. I purchased a refurbished Intel Imac through the apple store about 4 months ago. Awesome computer, everything worked great. Well I recently decided to add an additional monitor so of course I started browsing the forums and did my due diligence. I read that there were some compatibility issues with some of the older imacs and the apple 24 in led display so naturally I called my nearest apple store to find out if I could use this display.
The sales associate listened as I explained that I had a 2008 intel Imac and assured my the display would work without an adapter. Of course you guys know this is totally wrong but I was unaware of this fact at the time. SO I drove a 6 hour round trip to Dallas and paid 970 in cash for my new monitory. Get it home and realize that something is obv wrong. I call the store back and the clerk tells me I need an adapter that can be bought at Best Buy. I drive 45 min to best buy. They are sold out. Next day I drive an hour and a half to the next closest Best Buy. They dont have it either..............................

I first noticed this problem when i plugged in my ipod, it would not open itunes, appear in itunes, the desktop or finder. i managed to resolve this problem by reinstalling itunes and plugging in my ipod before i turned on the computer, but i can not change anything as it gets stuck while syncing with my ipod and says that my ipod is disconnected, i reconnect but the ipod not not appear on the screen.
