Windows On Mac :: Issues With The Keyboardpress The Quote Button I Get The Funny Symbol Of An Uppercase E?

Jun 21, 2009

I have installed Windows XP on my Macbook Pro with no issues, however on my iMac everything seems to work except for a few issues with the keyboard. For some reason, when I press the quote button I get the funny symbol of an uppercase E with a line above it instead. (ȩ The same thing happens with other symbols such as the question mark and square brackets.

Is this just a simple keyboard mapping problem or were some drivers not properly installedɍ

MacBook :: Left Shift Button Types Only An Uppercase?

Nov 28, 2010

My keyboard has suddenly started doing weird things, such as the left shift button types an uppercase 'r', the 'r' key will only type as uppercase, and the right shift key takes me to the overlay screen with post-it notes and the calculator. Any ideas besides taking it to the mac store? And any idea on how much they typically charge to fix things like this?

OS X Mavericks :: Decrease Quote Level Does Not Work As Keyboard Shortcut

Aug 22, 2014

command-option-apostrophe does not work in Apple Mail for me (Mail 7.3, OS 10.9.3). This is the keyboard shortcut used to decrease the quote level of a quoted line in a Mail message. In other words this is the keyboard shortcut for the menu item:

Format --> Quote Level --> Decrease

It hasn't worked for me since at least 10.8. Are others having this problem or do I need to dig more deeply through system extensions, looking for some kin of conflict?

MacBook :: Rapidshare Keeps Downloading Windows Files / Files Having Parallels Symbol?

Jan 31, 2010

On Rapidshare, I've download a lot of files such as .rar files on my mac and everything has worked fine. Up until today, I downloaded a few and they are windows files because they have the parallels symbol (Yes I have parallels) but my parallels isn't running. So i went back and tried to download old files that I had previously been opened with Mac OSX and they too are opening as parallel files. I dont understand why all the files want me to download the windows version. The only thing that I changed was i finally upgraded my MacPar Deluxe because there was a new version but that's the only thing. So can someone please help me fix this problem. I dont want to download windows files while on my mac.

OS X :: MacBook Air Display Acting Funny?

for the last week or so my MBA has been showing a ~3 inch bar running vertically along the middle-left of the display. Now the area has become a gray bar of pixels.

Also it seems that Safari occasionally hogs more memory and resources after extended use.

PowerPC :: Screen Acting Funny With Powerbook G4?

Mar 1, 2007

The screen on my 15" 1.67GHz Powerbook has been acting funny. Whenever I close the computer and let it sleep, the screen doesn't come on after being closed for about half an hour. The screen just randomly does this and it does it frequently enough as well. I've already done hardware tests that show the computer is fine, but the screen problem remains. I've had previously problems with this computer before and this is my second logic board. I was thinking about going to the local Apple Store and let them take a look at it. I was hoping you guys could give me a hand first in finding out what's wrong.

OS X :: Fit To Screen Button Poll For Mac / Windows Users

Dec 11, 2008

C'mon Apple... I know you don't like copying Microsoft and I don't either... but you gotta lose the green + toggle for windows and add a fit to screen button. This is no longer funny. Your only excuse is if there is a copyright, TM or patent issue, but somehow I think it's pure stubborness and you think the green toggle is useful. For those of you who have never owned or used a PC, this poll is not for you. For people who have used both, how many of you would like to see a "Fit To Screen" toggle button instead of a green + for OS windows?

Software :: One-click Button In OS X To Restart Into Bootcamp Windows XP?

Apr 16, 2009

SHORT VERSION:

How can I have a one-click button in OS X to 'restart into bootcamp windows XP' ?

LONG VERSION:

I have bootcamp running windows XP on my mac pro.

Apple have made a simple button in Windows to 'restart in Mac OS X'. This is great and really fast to do. But for some reason, they forgot to do this in in OS X.

When I'm in OS X, if I want to restart into windows the , I have to do either of the following:

a.) Click the apple icon, click 'restart', click confirm 'restart', wait for the mac to shut down, wait around holding down the option key to bring up a startup disk menu, then when it appears, click the arrow below Windows.

b.) Click on 'system preferences' in the dock, then click on 'start up disk', then click on 'windows', then click on 'restart...', then confirm 'restart'.

I want a simple one-click 'restart in windows' button that I can click in OS X, just like the one-click 'restart in mac os x' button in windows.

No, I'm not interested in using VMware. I have it and use it in conjunction with everything else. Just a simple 'restart in Windows' button will do the trick.

No I'm not interested in any 'just use mac os x' responses. I'm forced to use both native windows and mac for work. A simple 'restart in windows' button will do the trick nicely.

Yes, I have tried using the automator to record an action, but apparently it insists on showing the mouse playing it all back... and all you can do is speed it up x 10, you can't turn the 'show mouse movements' option off, nor can you just make the automator workflow into a one-click button, since I can find no way to select 'automator runner' as the default application to run the workflow, and placing the workflow in the dock just opens it in the automator, so then you have to click 'play'. Just quite messy and unprofessional in front of clients. So, again, a simple one-click button in the dock will do the trick.

Hopely I have caught out most who will try to put this thread off course.

I'm amazed apple didn't think of this simple thing before- I suppose I shouldn't get surprised any more.

OS X Mavericks :: Why Does Red Button In Windows Top Left Corner Have Different Functionality In Different Programs

Jun 3, 2014

Why does the red button in windows' top left corner have different functionality in different programs? For instance in Messages, it closes the window but leaves the program running. In Reminders, however, it closes the window and the program and the same happens, for instance, in Disk Utility.

I am surprised that OS X-specific programs behave differently like this.

Mac Mini :: Restart Message - Hold Power Button / Press Restart Button

Apr 29, 2009

I have just shipped my Mac Mini to its new home and I've had reports that the panic error is appearing on boot up: "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the Restart Button." This screen appears on the blue window just after the grey apple screen has disappeared and does not get as far as the desktop at the same point each time. We have tried to reinstall mac OS from the original install disk but holding the "C" Key or the "Option" Key down on restart doesn't boot from disc. Is there a way you can view the Kernel Panic log before you boot into Mac OS so we can try and pin point the source of this problem. I'm wondering if this could have been the result of the shipping that has caused some hardware to come loose.
