I know we can goto my computer click eject disk and then close it manually.
Is there anyway to do this? Is there a way to route the disk open/close button on the kb to work?
I installed windows xp on my macbook, only problem is I installed Windows over mac os x. So now when i turn on my macbook it loads windows xp from the start and the right click button and the eject button on the keyboard dont work. So now i am trying to reinstall mac os x and i cant find my os x disc, so i have leopard on a flash drive and i cant install it, and i have mac os 8 so i was going to try and install that and then open my flash drive and install leopard, but it wont boot, I help every button on start up and nothing works.
View 13 Replies View RelatedOS 10.9.3. This morning the Finder keyboard shortcut Command-W stopped closing windows and instead opened a folder burried fairly deeply in my Home folder. I moved that folder and managed to get Command-W to stop opening it, but it will still NOT close a window in Finder. Nor will it close windows in applications. What does happne is that the frame of the window flashes (but it remains open).

Apple thinks there is no need for a button on the tower. Now I can't open or close the CD tray without the mouse. Via right click I can open it at least but to close it, I have to push the drawer, which I'm not a big fan of, as the machine is brand new and cost me 4k.
Due to my fingers tripping over themselves I accidentally double clicked and opened a bunch of stuff, about 50 files in all. Annoying but doable to manually close them. However, suppose I had accidentally opened 500 or 5,000 or 50,000? Hopefully I wont ever do this , but if I did Is there a way to get back to a 'clean' screen by killing these, perhaps even 'kill everything that opened in the last 5 minutes', or is logoff or even a restart the only realistic way

I don't know if any of you have this problem, but often when I try to close an app, and I click the red button in the upper left corner of the screen, i somehow click the minimize button, causing the screen to go into the lower right corner of my screen (dock is on the right side) Is there any way to move the three buttons further away from each other or something else, like increasing sensitivity, whatever? Because it's annoying as hell. This is one of my only problems with leopard, that I keep hitting the yellow button.

I'm a long time windows/Ubutnu user who have recently migrated to Mac OS X and running 10.7.4. One thing which I'm unable to get used to is that while the red button closes a window, the program will remain open until you quit the application using the Menu Bar. One option to bypass it is use the key combination ctrl-q but by doing that all the instances of that program opens up the next time I open that application. Is there a way out?

I just got a 16 gig iPhone. I have 8.7 gigs of music, 0.07 gigs of photos, and 0.13 gigs of apps. However, I have 2.3 gigs of "other." I had this problem on my iTouch, but a simple sync fixed it. Not the case with the iPhone. I tried the easy measures, deleting browser history and texts, and that brought it down from 2.5 to the afore mentioned 2.3 gigs. Searching the Internet, one solution that seemed to work for a bunch of people was checking the "open itunes when this iphone is connected" button and then unclicking it, then syncing. On mine, however, it will not allow me to press that button. All the other buttons under "options" work, but that one is faded and will not allow me to click on it.

When I try to close safari using the red dot at the top left hand side of the screen instead of the window closing it opens a new blank safari window. Infact the same happens when I click the amber and green buttons also.
I recently have had to system updates (last night and today). Last night I also had a problem that has fixed itself where pressing the command + Q buttons would not clos safari and the "Quit safari" in in the safari drop down was greyed out. As I say the later isue has fixed itself after I force closed and the updates loaded on. Not sure if the two issues are connected.
My 2.8MP early 2008 with one optical drive is having some random issues iwth it.
ive only used the optical drive a few times however one instance it wont open for the drive to come out NOW, it wont shut when i insert a disc.
My apple keyboard number pad doesnt work on windows via bootcamp (works fine on osx 10.5.3), I have the latest firmware for the keyboard on macos and have checked the software update on windows but nothing fixes it, what can I do?

View 4 Replies View RelatedHaving a VERY strange issue with my new 27" iMac. I've tried installing XP twice now and everything works fine through the installation and after XP boot initially without any Apple drivers. Keyboard (wired) and my Magic Mouse work just fine.
Then I install the Apple drivers and after a restart XP does not recognize and keyboard/mouse. Even if I hook up a standard USB windows keyboard and wired mouse, nothing. Booting into Mac OS everything works fine, but nothing in XP, including safe mode.
Is there a keyboard shortcut to switch between open windows in Safari?

I have a 1TB MyBook from Western Digital. When I connect it via Firewire 800 to my MBP in Windows 7 (Bootcamp) it is recognised but when I start copying (read or write) it just hangs after a while or becomes very slow. If I connect it via USB it works. Do I need some drivers ? If yes, where can I found them? I found this on WD but I have the previous generation i.e. without the digital screen. If I go to the software download, it says that the drivers won't work with the previous gen.

Most programs in OS X stay open when you close them (when you click the red X button) unless you specifically close them from the dock. I think Safari 3 used to have this functionality but now when I close Safari, it "quits" as in all my open tabs are closed. However Safari stays open.

For example I have been working on my music files lately and I often want to get information about the size of the selected music files or music folders. But when I select them I don't get one screen telling me how big the selected files all together are, but a screen will open for every single file or folder. So you need to calculate it by yourself in order to get the total sum. Is there a way to avoid this? Then another thing: I can't find a function for closing all the open screens at once. Is there a way how I could close them all at once, because now I need to close them all separately. Like a couple of days ago I accidentally opened something which contains like 100 folders or more even. When I found it out, I couldn't stop it anymore and all the screens started to open. I had to close all the more than 100 screens one by one.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy iPhoto has always worked fine. Now I can't get it to open. Light under it in the dock is illuminated but the app won't open or close. Tried to restart computer but message indicated I had to close iPhoto first. I tried closing everything else and shutting power off, then turning back on. Illuminated iPhoto app on dock remains and I still can't open or close. Is this a common problem? I've never had this happen. I have over 5,000 photos
