Hope you can help out here. Been having a few problems reading DVDs ( slightly funny sound when spinning then spits them out ) - although it would read some OK, such as System disk.I out in a DVD just now, and it pulled it in, but then nothing - no spinup at all.And now I can't eject it - tried the eject button, logging out and back in again, restarting while holding down the trackpad button.Nothing worksAny ideas?Macbook Pro 2.8

I know some have reported to make creaking noises, but mine isn't at that stage... yet.
when I tap the touchpad to click on something, it makes the sound that I am actually pressing on the touchpad to click.
When I inspect the touchpad, I don't noticed any loose gaps or the glass is moving anywhere from side to side or top to bottom.

i was just carrying my MBP in my hand today by my hip and i started hearing some noises when i started walking. It looks like its the back door, if i touch down on it a little, it seems like it moves up and down a little (up meaning up towards the machine when its closed). Are the screws just loose or is this normal.

I have an iMac and that is nice and smooth with no odd noises, my MBP just doesn't sound right at all. Once the disk is in and loaded it operates fine and is nice and quiet, is this normal noises coming from the loading mechanism?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 1.86ghz 128GB SSD Rev B Macbook Air. The first one I had made a high pitch whining noise when the processor was idling or under light load. It was a very very high frequency noise, and you could only really hear it when the room was totally quiet - or unless you put your head near the top left side of the keyboard (where the CPU is located). A bit of googling and it seemed that older Macbook Pros also seemed to have had this exact problem.
I took it to the Apple Store and a Genius there took it back and said he could hear it as well. He offered to go through the repair process but since that would have taken awhile, I got an exchange instead from where I bought it from. Unfortunately, this new MBA also makes the same noise but to a slightly lesser degree (though it's possible that the frequency range isn't as high so it's not as piercing... hard to tell though).
Since this is my second RevB Macbook Air with the problem. I realize most people have lower noise sensitivity than me, so you might not notice it unless you place your ear to the top left of the keyboard. (And just to be clear, this is not a fan noise or a noise from the SSD - which don't make noises anyways. I am 100% sure this high pitched noise is coming from the CPU or somewhere on the logic board.)

Whenever I wake up my new 15" Pbook, it makes a noise from the CD drive. It doesnt seem to effect it at all, the CD drive works, burns CDs and DVDs.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI own a macbook pro, mid 2009 and its superdrive was working fine till 3 days ago. Now, whenever I try to insert a CD or DVD, the drive doesn't read it at all and after 2'' it ejects it. I tried reseting SMC and PRAM with no luck. I also tried that "batmac" trick [hold the mac upside down] with no luck either except my neck is now damaged too..
So, two questions:
1)What could the damage be? It's not a lens thing since it doesn't even try to read the cddvd.
2)My warranty is no longer valid [expired 1 month ago..]. How much would it cost to replace it? I live in Greece and no Apple Store exists here yet. I must take it to my provider [authorized reseller], check it [don't know how much this is going to cost either] and have it replaced.
Does anyone else have this problem? All the DVDs I put into the Super Drive have the edges torn up (i.e. they become jagged).

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy Macbook Pro is approaching its second birthday and now refuses to accept any DVDs, it takes them, swirls them around making a funny noise for a few seconds and then spits the disc back out. I want update to Snow Leopard, but can't, I want to install Windows 7, but can't and more importantly can't even run FM2010! I can't see how Apple can justify charging so much and have the nerve to call the drive 'super', when it is clearly not. Reading across the net on forums this seems to be a common problem and one that Apple don't want to know. Can anyone recommend an external DVD drive to buy?

It sounds like it should be the hard drive sounds of doom, but what's odd is that I check the drive using SMARTreporter occasionally, and nothing really changes as far as error statistics, and the drive otherwise works fine. So I'm paranoid, just because I wonder – is it potentially not the hard drive and actually something else entirely? Is this even possible?

This is a very specific problem that I'm sure other 17" MBP users have. I bought a 17" uMPB a few weeks ago and after a fair amount of use I am started to get a bit of eye strain from trying to read the text on the screen. I understand that the text size (as well as palettes, other windows, etc.) are smaller because they are taking up the same number of pixels on a higher dpi screen (I believe the WUXGA MBP screen is 136 dpi). So it makes many things difficult to read. I have tried TinkerTool to increase font sizes.
But many things in the system appear to remain unchanged and things such as dialog windows are still very small. I really want to increase the size of the text globally but there doesn't seem to be an easy solution. I would not consider lowering my resolution simply because I want to be able to view my pictures and high def videos at native screen resolution. Is there an easy solution to this? Please don't post things like "just zoom in by holding ctrl and scrolling" because I know that exists, but that's a workaround. These are my google findings for my problem. [URL]
I have a G5 PowerMac and it has a SuperDrive. I can still watch DVDs but I cannot burn them. When I put in a blank it just spits them out. I don't know if this has anything to do with it but my iDVD is not compatable with the version of OSX I am running. I can't even burn music onto a DVD from itunes. CDs work fine though.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Macbrook Pro, one generation old. In the past week, it started making a high pitched noise from the upper left hand corner, near the keyboard. When I pick the computer up and change the angle, I can eliminate the noise.
Just in the past day I noticed that in addition to this high pitched noise, periodically a much louder, different noise comes from the same area, which again, if I move the computer around, I can minimize the noise.
My guess is that there is something loose in the computer, maybe a fan? Should I bring it to apple? My computer has been running pretty slow lately, could this have anything to do with it?
Ever since I updated my '10 Mac Pro to Lion (months ago), my original built in superdrive will not read any DVD's or CD's, commercial or not, that have data on them... It simply assumes the disk is blank when it clearly isn't. Now, if I insert a blank DVD and burn it, it works like a charm... but it will then NOT read the disk that it just burned??? How and why did Lion break my superdrive?

I've rented 3 dvds from Netflix and tried to watch them in my MBP, thinking there was a problem with the dvd, but they all have the same issues. The video will suddenly freeze but the audio keeps going. The only way I can get out of this frozen screen is to use the remote that came w/ my MBP to eject the dvd. Also, the dvd menus are no longer functional. I can only press play but I can not navigate the menus with my remote, or with the mouse (the mouse cursor disappears now when I put a dvd in the drive). When I press play, it will play for about 10 minutes and then freeze. It seems like each time it's freezing about halfway into a track/chapter. I can eject the dvd, go back to the beginning, skip forward to the next track, and rewind to just after the point where it freezes, but I have to do this with EVERY track/chapter.
And I have to eject it every time or it won't play at all. This is a dvd-burning Superdrive. I have no idea how I would go about replacing the drive if it's broken, as it's built into the laptop with no way that I can see to access it. The laptop is just barely out of warranty. Here's another Mac oddity: when I log into Apple's own forums, the option to post a new thread in any of their forums is gone. It's not at the top of the page where it used to be, nor is it anywhere on any of the pages that I've visited. I'm talking about when I go to the main discussions page, and then click on the link for Macbook Pro or iPod, there's nothing there for posting.
Nothing appears on the desktop, and the DVD doesn't play (this is the second DVD I've tried). The drive works to download software though. These are commercial DVDs from Lovefilm in the UK - there are bound to be some scratches - does this mean I can only play new DVDs?
Also, if I click Finder to eject the DVD, the command is light gray, meaning the IMAC has not actually registered that there's a DVD in the drive, so I have to log off and on again for the DVD icon to appear on the desktop, at which point I can eject it. However, if I click it, it doesn't play. I'd really like to play films if I can.
I don't know what operating system I have, except that it's MAC OS X. I only just got it new two days ago.

My mac has worked great for the last 2 years since ive owned it and it just started to act a lil differently about 2 weeks ago. I started to notice that it started to act a lil slower than normal when i was surfing the internet. Then a couple of days ago the computer started making like a buzzing noise , kinda sounds like interference . Like when a cell phone gets close to a stereo system. Sometimes the noise will go away and then when i start opening diff app. that use computer cpu the noise happens again. It was just making the noise and i was dealing with it until the computer started to crash. It would look like the screen was on fire and everything would just freeze. Do you guys think it is the hardrive ?????? and if it was what would be my best option for fixing this. Can i save the stuff that is on my current drive ?? I have a bunch of stuff that is very important on this hardrive.
whats the best place to buy a hardrive if i need one ? and can i buy a hardrive that can hold more than the stock 74.53 toshiba MK8025GAS ?
It makes this noise while it's copying. If i press slightly on the body it makes all sorts of crazy noises. WTF?

Until today, the area looked just like blurry pixels (some things like graphics would still appear, so I don't believe the problem is with the pixels themselves). Now the area has become a gray bar of pixels.
