Windows On Mac :: XP SP3 Refuses To Install After First Reboot

Aug 25, 2010

This worked before and now it doesn't! I either a hal.dll or ntoskrnl.exe error. This was working perfectly on one 500G HD which OS X does not reside on (OS X is on a 80Gb SSD).

1. 150Gb Windows 7 x64
2. 80Gb Windows XP x32
3. HFS formatted for storage of OS X things.

Now whichever way I install or partition it XP refuses to install after the first reboot (after it's copied files over). Now I've spent TWO days on this now and still no closer to fixing it. Windows 7 boots and works fine, XP refuses to install even if it's the only thing on the disk!

Windows On Mac :: Vista Refuses To Install On MacBook

Apr 10, 2009

I have tried partitioning my drive and I set the partition to 32gb. Okay, that's done and everything went well. Then I put in Windows Vista Home Premium cd and clicked start installation. done! So it rebooted. I tried letting it load by itself and not touch anything, also tried pressing the option key and clicking windows. But both came out with the same result: a grey screen forever and ever. I even tried letting it remain like this for an hour, but still the grey screen of death. I know the vista cd works as I've tried using it in vmware fusion. But vmware fusion is too laggy as I only have 1 gb of ram. Also, I even tried reformatting it twice in case there was maybe something that hindered it from loading but no still greyness.

Software :: OS X Refuses To Install On IBook G4?

Sep 17, 2008

I have a 12" iBook G4, 1.07GHz that I'm trying to reinstall OS X on after a hard drive replacement. The new drive is a standard 80GB IDE drive, fresh out of the shrink wrap. Now, when I attempt to run the install it acts rather oddly . . . it runs through the entire install script, but then at the very end errors out and says "try installing again".

I've tried three different OS X install media sets (two DVD and one CDs) and gotten the same result. I've reformatted the drive several times and run the Disk Utility repair tool, which has gone through fine. I've reset the PMU, and pulled the expansion ram and Airport card. Same result.

I'm absolutely at my wits end trying to figure this out . . . . I've tried everything I can possibly think of.

MacBook Pro :: Refuses To Boot From Windows 7 DVD

May 4, 2012

my Macbook Pro 17" early 2008 (modell 4,1) had it's motherboard changed a week ago (the video card issue). I am running Snow Leaopard 10.6.8.

I decided to install Windows 7 on this machine, preparing a partition via Bootcamp, and ran into the following issue: each time I try to boot the Mac from the Windows 7 install DVD (official one), I get a black screen with a blinking cursor.

Now, of course I searched the web, tried a lot of things, burned several DVDs in different ways, from the original DVD as well as from .iso files downloaded from MS, nothing helped.

After some time, I head the idea to try my DVDs on another Mac, an iMac to be exact, and they all work!

So, it looks as if it is my machine that causes the trouble... but its motherboard is new, so it should not be a hardware issue.

Windows On Mac :: Blue Death Screen On Reboot - Installing Windows 7

Nov 12, 2009

I Have my 15" macbook pro 2,4 Ghz 2G in RAM, with Snow Leopard, bootcamp and vista running for some time (about a year or so) and every thing has been going ok. Last night I made a clean windows 7 installation. All went good, installation, let windows 7 make his updates, I put Snow Leopard disk to make macbook pro drivers updates and I installed all the program I need including Norton 2010 Antivirus.

All went smooth and easy untill I activated Windows 7 with Daz Windows Loader 1.6.9. After a few seconds It said : Everything Ok, Windows is now activated and your machine will reboot now. After that, it gets out of the desktop to the closing window and suddenly I get the blue death screen. I have to manually press de power button to shut down my macbook pro.

I reboot again and after getting the safe mode screen stuff i just keep with Start Windows normally. It starts well again, but now each time I want to reboot or shut down my MBP I get again and again the blue death screen. And Im sure i will get it while working soon.Is it probably because I did all kind of updates before running the Daz Loader (including programs and antivirus software)??

Windows On Mac :: Win 7 Bootcamp Driver Disk Refuses To Run

Apr 19, 2009

I have recently installed Win 7 on my 17" iMac using Bootcamp. The partitioning went fine, so did the Windows install, but the Bootcamp driver disk refuses to run. I have tried 'Troubleshoot Compatibility' using every logical option, but to no avail. This seems kind of wierd to me, as no one else has mentioned a problem like this.

I have:
Retail boxed leopard, with 10.5.1 on the Disc
Mac OS 10.5.6 installed
Bootcamp 2.0
Win 7, Build 7000

17" 2GHz Core 2 Duo iMac 2 GB RAM 160GB HDD, newly formatted, with 10GB for Win 7 (I am storing all of my Data and apps on an exteral drive) As far as I know, Win 7 and Mac OS are fully updated. Win 7 runs fine, but the lack of drivers means very little works. It can just about manage the internet...

MacBook Air :: Running Windows 7 - Refuses To Play BluRays

Nov 13, 2008

I was able to get Windows 7 running on my 1st gen MBA, with everything working except the wireless (but have found driver that I will test soon). Battery life is as good if not better than OS X, boot times are quicker than OS X and the MBA doesn't appear to get anywhere near as hot as it does in OS X when idling. CPU usage is 0-1% on idle but soon whacks up when screen grab is used, youttube CPU requirements are very low (which is to be expected) also even though this is pre beta the OS feels incredibly smooth, I have attached some screen shots below. I also installed on my iMac and the only things to report there are that sound and wireless require 3rd party drivers (as with MBA) and it refuses to play Blu-Rays or HD-DVDs no matter which powerdvd you use, (the blu-ray/hd-dvd drive is a sata device connected y a sata to usb adapter...) it simply says 'cannot recognise the format' even though windows know its a blu-ray and i can go and explore files on the disk. anyway here are photos and I will also try and make a video at some point:

Windows On Mac :: Reboot Into OS From Bootcamp?

Jun 20, 2009

I setup a bootcamp partition on my macbook pro, and tonight I had a weird issue happen. Now first off let me say that I am running custom video drivers instead of the supplied bootcamp ones (figured I would say that now, just in case).

I was in vista for a while playing kotor, and I finished up and right clicked on the bootcamp icon and rebooted into Mac OS. The screen went blank, but the laptop stayed on. I didn't hear the system bong either, just stayed blank screen, keyboard lit up. I finally had to press and hold the power button, and start it back up. Then it started up fine.

When I went back into Mac OS, I noticed the clock was messed up and had the wrong time. When I unchecked maintain the time it setup perfectly.

I don't know if something may be wrong, or if this kind of thing is normal. Should I perhaps take it back to apple? Or am I just being overly paranoid.

Windows On Mac :: Reboot Into Win7 Directly From OS X - Flipside And Quickboot

Mar 3, 2010

There are two tools I've found that will let you reboot into Windows straight out of Mac OS X, without having to change your startup disk or hold down the option button at boot:
Flipside: [URL]
Quickboot: [URL]

I'm running OS X 10.6.2 and Windows 7. Neither of these works for me. When I try to reboot into Win7 using Quickboot, my unibody Macbook Pro just does a regular reboot and I land right back in OS X. Flipside does not even list my Bootcamp partition after its initial scan. When I select the Bootcamp partition manually using Flipside's "manual mode", I get this message: "Unable to set that volume as a startup volume. See the log for more info."

I did install Win7 *before* Apple announced official Bootcamp support for Windows 7. I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but there it is. Also, when booting into Windows, do any of you get that black screen with the blinking underscore in the top left corner that just blinks around for a good 20 seconds or so before actually commencing to boot Windows? I always wonder what the hell the point of that screen is other than to make me wait..

Windows On Mac :: Fusion 3.1.1 BSOD "Bad Image Checksum" Error And Reboot Loop?

Aug 16, 2010

My parents are having the exact problem described in this thread (and I've been tasked with remote tech support): [URL] Upon startup, WinXP gives them a BSOD reboot loop while indicating that a DLL file is possibly corrupt. Booting in Safe Mode won't work, and reverting to an earlier snapshot merely delays the problem by 24 hours or so.

The obvious and ideal solution would be to boot into Repair mode from the install disc and copy the clean DLL to replace the damaged copy. The problem is that, according to the thread, I'll need to first get Fusion to accept a floppy image of SCSI adapter drivers for me to even be able to enter Repair mode. The link for that image was broken in the thread, but a little Googling directed me here: [URL]
