Windows On Mac :: Word Formatting Palette Refuses To Show Itself?
May 26, 2008
I use the format palette all the time. Somehow, it's disappeared now, and every time I use the correct instructions to get it back (view palette, etc) it doesn't come out. I see something flashing across the screen, almost as if it is hiding from me, but I can't get it back.
Whenever I try to manipulate a chart in Excel, my formatting palette will not open all of the way? The formatting palette opens completely in Microsoft Word.
I've been having a problem with word 08 where every time I try to format a word as bold, the entire document is formatted as bold. When I undo, the document goes back to what it originally was, but the desired text is bold. It seems almost like word formats the desired selection and then does some sort of autoformatting that takes over the whole document, which is why I am able to undo it. Normally it's only a slight inconvenience, but now that I am writing my thesis, formatting is key, and I can't afford to have random formatting changes.
I have loaded windows 7 and parallels. I want to load MS office so I can send properly formatted excel and doc files to my client. They say the numbers conversion does not translate well to Excel and pages to word. Do I load MS Office in the windows OS? How can i access the numbers file in the Mac OS to use in the Windows OS on Excel? Is this a better option than loading Office for Mac? I need the formatting that I put into the excel file lto hold.
I want to clean install windows 7 after formatting disk. This doesn't sound like a great idea, but I need this for couple of engineering softwares to work. I don't want to spend my nights in computer cluster or at friends pc...
I have heard, I will encounter following issues: - battery will drain faster - graphics driver for x64-bit version - camera - iPhone backups and syncs (music, video, cal, contacts and apps) - I would need a external mouse for right click.
I can live with all of the above problems except graphics card drivers. Can anyone provide feedback or useful links they have refered to installing Windows 7?
you cant use a windows xp sp1 disk to install windows xp onto your mac using bootcamp. What i wanted to know is if i partition my HD then format it to a recognizable format for windows installation disks, would i be able to install windows xp sp1 that way?or would the same principle apply as bootcamp and sp1 versions of xp are incapable of being installed on macs?
This worked before and now it doesn't! I either a hal.dll or ntoskrnl.exe error. This was working perfectly on one 500G HD which OS X does not reside on (OS X is on a 80Gb SSD).
1. 150Gb Windows 7 x64 2. 80Gb Windows XP x32 3. HFS formatted for storage of OS X things.
Now whichever way I install or partition it XP refuses to install after the first reboot (after it's copied files over). Now I've spent TWO days on this now and still no closer to fixing it. Windows 7 boots and works fine, XP refuses to install even if it's the only thing on the disk!
my Macbook Pro 17" early 2008 (modell 4,1) had it's motherboard changed a week ago (the video card issue). I am running Snow Leaopard 10.6.8.
I decided to install Windows 7 on this machine, preparing a partition via Bootcamp, and ran into the following issue: each time I try to boot the Mac from the Windows 7 install DVD (official one), I get a black screen with a blinking cursor.
Now, of course I searched the web, tried a lot of things, burned several DVDs in different ways, from the original DVD as well as from .iso files downloaded from MS, nothing helped.
After some time, I head the idea to try my DVDs on another Mac, an iMac to be exact, and they all work!Â
So, it looks as if it is my machine that causes the trouble... but its motherboard is new, so it should not be a hardware issue.Â
I have tried partitioning my drive and I set the partition to 32gb. Okay, that's done and everything went well. Then I put in Windows Vista Home Premium cd and clicked start installation. done! So it rebooted. I tried letting it load by itself and not touch anything, also tried pressing the option key and clicking windows. But both came out with the same result: a grey screen forever and ever. I even tried letting it remain like this for an hour, but still the grey screen of death. I know the vista cd works as I've tried using it in vmware fusion. But vmware fusion is too laggy as I only have 1 gb of ram. Also, I even tried reformatting it twice in case there was maybe something that hindered it from loading but no still greyness.
I have recently installed Win 7 on my 17" iMac using Bootcamp. The partitioning went fine, so did the Windows install, but the Bootcamp driver disk refuses to run. I have tried 'Troubleshoot Compatibility' using every logical option, but to no avail. This seems kind of wierd to me, as no one else has mentioned a problem like this.
I have: Retail boxed leopard, with 10.5.1 on the Disc Mac OS 10.5.6 installed Bootcamp 2.0 Win 7, Build 7000
17" 2GHz Core 2 Duo iMac 2 GB RAM 160GB HDD, newly formatted, with 10GB for Win 7 (I am storing all of my Data and apps on an exteral drive) As far as I know, Win 7 and Mac OS are fully updated. Win 7 runs fine, but the lack of drivers means very little works. It can just about manage the internet...
I was able to get Windows 7 running on my 1st gen MBA, with everything working except the wireless (but have found driver that I will test soon). Battery life is as good if not better than OS X, boot times are quicker than OS X and the MBA doesn't appear to get anywhere near as hot as it does in OS X when idling. CPU usage is 0-1% on idle but soon whacks up when screen grab is used, youttube CPU requirements are very low (which is to be expected) also even though this is pre beta the OS feels incredibly smooth, I have attached some screen shots below. I also installed on my iMac and the only things to report there are that sound and wireless require 3rd party drivers (as with MBA) and it refuses to play Blu-Rays or HD-DVDs no matter which powerdvd you use, (the blu-ray/hd-dvd drive is a sata device connected y a sata to usb adapter...) it simply says 'cannot recognise the format' even though windows know its a blu-ray and i can go and explore files on the disk. anyway here are photos and I will also try and make a video at some point:
Since I upgraded to Lion from Snow Leopard, Mail has had glitches. I fixed one; the other remains: I can't see Word attachments in emails. The only hint is the message "Missing Plug-in". If I show the entire header, Mail provides buttons to Quickview the document or save it. The previous problem was that Mail wouldn't start up (kept quitting while doing the initial database migration) because I'd left in MailActOn as a plugin. So I removed plugins and the contents of ~/Library/Mail/Bundles. Now Mail works except for this.
I have a new iMac 27, which I'm running primarily as a Windows machine. Using Bootcamp, I sectioned off 150GB of the 256GB SSD for Windows and installed W7 on it (the rest I leave for OS X, in case Windows fails, or upgrades become available). I've installed programs on the Windows drive, transferred my emails, etc. Now I still have to do something with the 1T hard drive, which I've decided not to partition, and to use exclusively in Windows mode. Two questions:
1. Please talk me through the process of formatting the 1T drive, as if I were a child! 2. I will use this drive mostly for large data files, but perhaps also for less important programs. Installations seem to happen more or less automatically when you insert a disc - how would I direct a program in the normal course of an automatic installation towards this second larger hard drive, AND is there any way (simply) to have programs running on the SSD with associated data files sitting on the other drive (e.g. with iTunes)?
just received my brand new iMac 27" i7 today (2.93Ghz /2TB HDD + 256GB SSD/12GB RAM (4GB stock, although I upgraded 8GB more)) and I couldn't be happier. It's absolutely wonderful although it really burnt my wallet! I have managed to successfully install Windows XP via Boot Camp and have both Mac OSX & Windows running natively. I am very suprised that XP can see all the hard drives available within the mac itself even though they are HFS although I assume I cannot write onto them.
I believe I am at the stage where I would like to partition the 2TB HDD as discussed previously in my previous questions on this board. I would like 1TB for mac data storage (Mac OS extended) but I would like the other 1TB for Windows data storage (NTFS), however, this does not seem possible in the disk utility There is, however, an option for 'free space' or ExFat (FAT 32). Would I be right in saying I could format the hard drive as 2 partitions, partition 1 being Mac OS Extended and the 2nd Partition as free space or ExFat via Disk Utility. Once that is complete, I boot up XP and right click on the 2nd Parition which is ExFAT or Free Space and reformat the partition as NTFS? Does that work and make sense or is that stupidity?
(also on a side note, completely off topic, does anyone know how to get the magic mouse working in XP? I've got the keyboard (wired) working fine, however, the mouse doesn't seem to commicate. I've followed the tutorial/guides of adding the bluetooth mouse but when I tick the box "keyboard, mouse and misc functions (HID)" it states "access denied". I've tried several times and the device that i've just added disappears?
I just got my LaCie 1TB external HDD and I need to split it into two partitions, I need one to be Mac OS X, and one compatible with Windows XP, I assume that'll be Fat32 or NTFS.
i just formatted a hard drive using apple's software but i changed my mind.. now, i tried putting it inside an enclosure and connected it to my windows laptop, but it's not detected,. the enclosure is detected, but the hard drive isn't.. i would like to use this for both my mac and windows.. can any1 tell me how i format my hard drive so that it can be recognized by both mac and windows?
i have a external enclosure, and the hard drive is 300gb.
I've noticed over the last few days that whatever i save, (word doc, iphoto, e-mail, iweb, final draft scripts) or create a new folder... it doesn't show on the desktop unitl i either restart the machine or log out and then log back in... and then all the files that haven't been appeared at the time show up.Any ideas on how to stop this without giving my machine a clean instal?
How can i format my pc from windows to the original mac os again because i tried quite a lot of times when i format my pc the overview is in window 7 not iMac os x.
Now, I set up a partition to run Ubuntu on my MacBook, but now I want to remove that partition to make room for Windows XP. When I go to Boot Camp Assistant, I try to click 'Continue' but it gives me this: I thought I could fix the problem using Disk Utility, but I couldn't understand what I could do. I thought it would work by erasing them, but I may have made the problem worse. Here is what it looks like: I tried booting the Ubuntu disc as I read I could remove the partition using that, but I don't understand how that would work.
Ive recently purchased a new external hard drive. I plan to use it on both Apple and Windows OS.Â
I was told that if I do, then i could corrupt the files/data that I will be accessing on both computers.Â
Is there a "universal" format for an external drive which would prevent/avoid this kind of thing happening ? How should i format it or which format should i use so that i can use the drive both OS ?
Info: MacBook Pro (13-inch Late 2011), Mac OS X (10.7)
Im having trouble with VMware.. If I set the wireless network connection to NAT, the internet works, but my xbox 360 wont show up in the media streaming options in windows media player. However, if I change the network settings to bridged, I lose my internet connection (well.. sometimes it works.. 80% of the time it doesnt..) Connecting to bridged is the only way I can connect to my 360, and only some of the time where the internet will work. Is there a way to fix the problem with bridged or NAT so they both work together?
I have a macpro with OSX on one drive and windows 7 on a partition of another drive. Both systems work fine and I boot into windows by holding the option key down. What is odd is if I go to the system preferences startup disk my windows install does not show up. I did move my windows partition a while ago to a new drive. I used bootcamp to create the partition and winclone to move the data. It's not a big deal not having the option in the preference pain but would be nice. If I am in windows and go to the bootcamp control panel both OS X and Windows are there.
System Preferences>International>Character Palette is checked, script UnicodeCharacter Palette comes up blank and goes off. EDIT>Special CharactersCharacter Palette comes up blank and goes off. American Flag U.S.>Show Character PaletteCharacter Palette comes up blank and goes off. Any ideas? Power Mac G4 (AGP graphics), 400 MHz, Memory 1.38GB SDRAM, OS 10.4.11 Machine Model: PowerMac3,1
When I try to start "Special Characters" to get the Character Palette I get nothing. Yesterday I installed "Monolingual" and got rid of all other languages except English. Did this create the problem? If not, or even if it did, how do I get the Character Palette back?
Have recently started using 10.5.5 on new machine. Found Character Palette OK, but cannot work out how to add characters to favorites. I must be overlooking something ???? Didn't have this problem before.
I'm trying to copy over a specific cross (✚) character from the Character Palette to Photoshop, but when I double-click the cross it imports as another character and changes the font type to Myriad Pro. I try to change the font back to Lucida Grande but it just stays on Myriad Pro. I've noticed this happens with a few characters. I've had prior success with characters like command (⌘) which initially shows up as another character, and then I just change the font to Lucida Grande and it shows up correctly. I'm used to being able to just do a regular copy and paste in Windows but can't seem to figure it out on a Mac. (For example, you can copy and paste those characters I included above.) Edit: I just noticed the layer name actually comes up as ✚ so I'm not sure why it's not showig up in the actual layer. Here's a screenshot of the contextual layer menu.
