Mac Pro :: Trying To Install OS X On PC - No Reboot
Nov 21, 2009
Just as an experiment I have been trying to get the Mac OS to work on PC. I have downloaded several versions of iatkos and it works fine until the end where the computer is supposed to re-boot under Mac OS. It just sits there can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong, it looks like a good experiment, graphics look ok and it would provide a mate for my mac pro. Need some direction as I have tried 3 computers 6 downloads and no success.

This worked before and now it doesn't! I either a hal.dll or ntoskrnl.exe error. This was working perfectly on one 500G HD which OS X does not reside on (OS X is on a 80Gb SSD).
1. 150Gb Windows 7 x64
2. 80Gb Windows XP x32
3. HFS formatted for storage of OS X things.
Now whichever way I install or partition it XP refuses to install after the first reboot (after it's copied files over). Now I've spent TWO days on this now and still no closer to fixing it. Windows 7 boots and works fine, XP refuses to install even if it's the only thing on the disk!

I made a clean install of Snow Leopard and now I'm slowly installing all my apps. I had Undercover running on Leopard and I installed it again. After the reboot, a pop up asked my the same question as an iPhone asks"uc" would like to use your current location.

I forgot my admin password on my iMac recently and so i used the reboot with OS X snow leopard install disc to reset the keychain, but now on my login screen, it used to be just my account name, there is one called "Other" so i went into accounts in system preferences and tried to delete it but it isnt there?is really annoying me p.s. the "other account" isnt actually an account it says "Other" and when you click on it asks for your username and password...so i type in the admin accounts name and password (admin account is the only one on this computer), and it just opens up my admin account.

Problem is that all my back up is on a Iomega miniMax Ext HD that I backed up and cloned my old HD. Via FireWire. I've noticed that the new Macbook ONLY has USB 2. Will my EXT HHD still work.( It does have a USB2 connection). Obviously I wont want to be using my old OS ( Panther) But I do have quite a few app.s that I'd like to transfer to the new OS

System 10.3.9 working without problem ... until...pointer freezes up.
Re-start helps, but only briefly, until another freeze-up.
Tried using another mouse, connected to my USB port.
(Usually, and without problem, I use a wireless LogiTech mouse.)

I changed some permissions on my mac yesterday, including enclosed items and since am unable to reboot the computer. I know there are similar posts on here but was struggling to find the solution applicable to my case. When I try to start up I get a grey screen with apple and spinning gear.

I recently restarted my computer and it will not re-boot. Up to that point before I restarted I had no problems with my laptop or did the laptop show any signs of a problem beginning or persisting on my comp. When I am booting up OS X I get to the Grey screen where I normally get to before the system fully boots up. That's where I get stuck, all i get is the thing spinning around under the apple logo ( not the color pinwheel) and it just sits there forever. I hear the quiet sound of the fan blowing or what ever it is and a click here or there from the hard drive maybe trying to boot up.

I setup a bootcamp partition on my macbook pro, and tonight I had a weird issue happen. Now first off let me say that I am running custom video drivers instead of the supplied bootcamp ones (figured I would say that now, just in case).
I was in vista for a while playing kotor, and I finished up and right clicked on the bootcamp icon and rebooted into Mac OS. The screen went blank, but the laptop stayed on. I didn't hear the system bong either, just stayed blank screen, keyboard lit up. I finally had to press and hold the power button, and start it back up. Then it started up fine.
When I went back into Mac OS, I noticed the clock was messed up and had the wrong time. When I unchecked maintain the time it setup perfectly.
I don't know if something may be wrong, or if this kind of thing is normal. Should I perhaps take it back to apple? Or am I just being overly paranoid.

Just got my first Mac yesterday (MBP) and am getting used to it. I have a question about installing applications. Of the 3rd party software I have installed thus far (firefox, skype, ibank) they all install fine. However, if I go into the applications folder, they have a generic icon until after I reboot.

I brought my 3-year old ibook to the Mac store a few weeks ago because my USB ports stopped working. The kind genius behind the bar rebooted the ports during start up.
My ports stopped working again and wanted to try and reboot the ports. Can anyone tell me how to do that?

My imac is 10.4 tiger which over the years is now updated to version 10.5.8. It regularly crashes and is getting worse - at least twice a day then i have to turn it off with the power button. When i go to reboot a folder with a question mark appears on the screen. I usually then have to turn it back off and wait several hours for the mac to reboot again...

So I had one admin user, then I added a second one. I deleted the second one because I didn't need it. Now every time I restart even though there's only one user I have to keep entering my password. How can I make it restart like it used to without needing any login and it just starts to the desktop?

I have a process running prl_vm_service and it is making my HDD very noisy. I think that spotlight keep indexing this file. Because when is shut down this process my HDD become almost silent. I would like to prevent this process to startup when I reboot my iMac. Is there a way to do this. I am aware that Parralles (this process belongs to it) needs it, but still I want to prevent this process to startup.

I own a 15 inch mid-2010 macbook pro and have Windows installed via bootcamp. Because of this, I often shut down and reboot the computer into the other partition. I would say I switch between Windows and Mac OS X about six times a day.
Since I reboot often, I was just wondering if doing this does any damage to the hard drive or other hardware.

I am upgrading my RAM from 512 MB to the Max limit 2 GB. After I add the two 1GB RAMs and put the MacbookPro back together will I have to do some kind of reboot restore, or something like a hard drive backup restore, before it will all work? Or do you just replace the RAM cards and start it up and it works fine?

Has anyone else experienced anything like this with their MBP? I woke my MBP from sleep as I went to do something on it and I found a checkerboard-like (or interlacing) pattern displayed across the screen. That is, I could see bits and pieces of Firefox, the desktop, the dock, etc. in little rectangles across the screen with the bits and pieces scattered all over the place (like puzzle pieces strewn everywhere). I wasn't entirely surprised as I had seen a friend of mine have a similar problem when waking his MBP from sleep. I didn't have time to deal with a restart, so I went to my gf's Windoze machine (perhaps what follows is my MBP taking revenge for going off when times got tough and cheating on it with a *gasp* PC!!???). when I returned to my machine later on, it sounded like it was rebooting itself as I walked in the room. Then about 15-20 seconds later, it did the same thing. When I opened it up, the same checkerboard pattern appeared as it started to reboot, then it went to a completely blue screen, and finally went black (as in turned-off black). After that, it started this same process over again and stayed stuck in that loop until I held down the power button to turn it completely off. I called Apple (still under 90-day Apple Care since I got the machine in April) and did all of the troubleshooting tasks that they talked me through. It is apparently a hardware issue, as I feared, and I will have to send it off to have it repaired. (At least is sending the pre-paid box for me to ship it to them).

When I reboot, I hear an odd "clunk" that sounds like something in the front of the case. It occurs right the black screen at the beginning, before the screen turns grey and the apple logo appears. If you don't know what I'm talking about, reboot and let me know if you hear anything like this.
