Windows On Mac :: Leave Current File System Intact - Unable To Bootup

Oct 3, 2010

I wasn't paying attention when installing the windows XP and I choose the "Leave the current file system intact" option and I am unable to boot up my IMac. Its a black screen saying failing to boot from cd, press any key to reboot and it doesn't. I have ejected the cd and I been trying to hold down the option button to choose which to load up from but it doesn't work. I have an external hard drive that I been using for time machine, is there any way I can boot up from that disc and then have the hard drive in the IMac reset to the mac OS X partition? Running Mac OS X Leopard to its fullest updated on Intel core duo IMac with 2 gigs of ram

Applications :: Download Embroidery File While Keeping Extension Intact?

Apr 11, 2009

I have a customer who owns a Mac and when she attempted to download an unzipped embroidery file (jef extension) she was greeted with the message this was not possible, that it had to have a .dmf extension and she was given the option to use both (nameoffile.jef.dmf)This did not work at all.

How do you download an embroidery file while keeping the extension intact? She transfers her file to a jump drive and then to her machine. We tried downloading directly to the jump drive - same message. She is going to try to use her Windows parallel and see if that will work.

PowerPC :: Unable To Start System After Update / File System Got Corrupted?

Jul 19, 2007

I am a proud owner of a MAC powerbook G4 for just over 3 years now. It runs MAc OX 10.3. For the last two weeks i have been having issues. First it started to be very slow. Then it would not boot up and i got a blue screen. I ran the file system checks from the OS X and it complained about the volume being bad and said it could not be repaired. i decided to reinstall the whole thing and did a complete erase and install. IT booted up fine. The software updater asked permission to update which i agreed.

After the update was over, the software updater had more updates. I guessed that it was probably giving me updates in the chronological order. During a particular update, it gave the blue screen and "please restart" ... and when i rebooted it did not come up... just a blue screen... i verified the filesystem using the diagnostic tool and it again said it was corrupt .... I have done this twice now and i have a feeling it happened when i was updating the same batch of software updates.... sometimes my software updater would crash everytime i launch it.....

On "My Computer" in Vista I see "Bootcamp (C" and "Macintosh HD (E in my Hard Disks Drives. Also, whenever I start up Vista it tells me something about a wrongly formatted drive. My files are still all in the Mactintosh HD drive, but I don't know how to start up Mac OS X.

PowerPC :: Replace Original Theme Now System Not Bootup

Nov 23, 2008

I'm have an old iBook Clamshell 320mb of RAM with OS X 10.2.8 installed, and today I tried to replace the Extras.rsrc with the "Liger" theme (you know the one that makes it look like leopard?) but I didn't know it wouldn't work with 10.2 so I took the original put it in a folder on the desktop called 'System Files Needed Don't Delete' and then I restarted the computer, and it won't boot to the login screen and just stays blue with the cursor. Is there some way I can fix this without installing 10.1.4 again, and not sending it to a friend who can install 10.2.8? I only have the 10.1.4 install disk.

My question is will all my data within Windows remain if I install 4 or will it be a completely new Windows? And if so, how do I go in and retrieve my MS Money data as I can no longer access it with Parallels 3.

OS X :: Unable To Reset Admin Password - Cannot Bootup Using CD

Jan 2, 2010

I'm having trouble trying to reset my admin password on my Leopard machine. I am current on all software updates. I purchased the system (desktop iMAC) last year from Apple with Leopard already installed. When I changed my password last week I failed to write it down and now for the life of me I cannot remember what I changed it to. Ok so no big deal (yeah right!) I'll just start up from CD and reset it that way. Well, I started feeling this wave of resistance unfolding and sure enough I run into my first instance of conflict when I hear the CD constantly spinning up and down for 5 minutes while I'm holding down the "C" key. Upon release of the C key the disk just kept on spinning up and down so I had no choice but to power it down using the on/off button in back. Upon restarting the system would not boot up as long as the CD was still spinning so I restarted again holding down the eject key then the CD ejected. So next I started up the machine normally and after it came up I inserted the Installation disk again and waited for it to appear on the desktop which it did. So I went into the start up control panel in system preferences and selected the OSX installation disk in which to reboot from. Same thing.

Disk kept on spinning up and down doing nothing. So I restart it holding down the option key and select the OSX disk and does the same thing spins up and down. I already repaired permissions and zapped PRAM and even looked for error messages when I started up using verbose startup. nothing looked unusual. Ok so now I am at the point to where when I insert the installation disk it shows up on the desktop I double click on the icon and it opens up to its content window but I get the error message: "You can't open the application "Install Mac and Bundled Software" because its not supported on this architecture". I'm not having trouble opening any other CD or DVD on my system. Heres my question other than the obvious one of not being able to run the installation disk to reset my password. I removed every language except the English language from each application the other day because I read that it would improve processing time so I removed every foreign language in my applications folder. Do you think thats the reason I can't start up because maybe at when booting up from CD it looks for one of the foreign languages?..I don't really think this would have any affect on my problem. But I can't think of anything I changed including my password.

Windows On Mac :: 7 Won't Bootup After Install?

Aug 21, 2010

I have a problem with my installation of win 7 in bootcamp. Its on newest iMac 2.93 w. 4 gb of ram

Creating partition, formatting in win 7, installing goes fine. And everything looks to be in order.

When windows install is rebooting final time, its kinda hard to get dvd out so it wont boot from that. Normally it should just continue if no button is pressed, but it locks and doesnt go further.

I reboot holding left mouse btn and cdrom comes out. I then choose to boot from windows disk.

Heres the problem then again, its just black screen, except from one blinking cursor in top left corner.

Kinda feels like windows partition cant be booted from. though theres plenty of HDD activity in about 20 secs after black screen w blinking cursor.

Tried apples solution w graphics drivers on usb stick, but no go.

Tried both win 7 32 and 64 bit.

OS X :: Unable To Change Boot Order / Bootup Time Is Slower

Apr 19, 2008

I just bought my first Mac a few weeks back and the switch has been going good but have had one thing that I can't seem to find any info on...

Is it possible to change the boot order on a Mac like in the BIOS on a PC? The reason I ask is that when I have my external hard drive connected the bootup time is slower.

Could this be that the Mac equivalent of the BIOS is doing a quick scan of the hard drive first, looking for an bootable operating system? Or is that extra time just OS X mounting the hard drive?

Software :: IBook G4 Unable To Mount New Internal HD - Bootup With External Hdd

Jan 10, 2009

i bought a ibook G4 off of a friend and knowning it needed some repairs it needed a new Harddrive. He had a 100Gig Seagate replaced in it before me and I tried a new 60Gig when I got it.either one of us couldnt boot either HD, we can not find the new Internal HD with the Mac. I can boot off a External HD holding down ALT. And i already tried clearing the P-ram many times.

Also when i go to load a 10.3 OSX disk it loads and either gives me a red circle X or like sorta artfacts and shifts the apple screen to the side of the page. Ive spent hours trying to fix this and have no luck. do i need a 10.4 or 10.5 disk? i did add 256MB ram to it so heres the specs. I have no clue what to do. ALSO! when i boot the external under the specs it wont show the HD under disk utilty or the about my pc info...

Windows On Mac :: Partitioning External Drive For Backup (NTFS File System)

Aug 20, 2010

Awhile back I bought a 500 GB Seagate FreeAgent Go external hard drive to backup my 218 GB PC. I used the automatic backup software that came with it and it works fine. After all this I purchased a MacBook Pro and now, instead of buying another drive and also considering there's plenty of space on the one I already have, I was wondering if I could possibly partition half the drive to be used as a backup with Time Machine without touching the other half. I plugged in the drive to my Mac and opened Disk Utility. It says it is a NTFS file system (I suppose that's normal).

Windows On Mac :: Holding Alt Option During Bootup Not Working

Jun 13, 2009

I have Vista/OSX installed on my 8-core Mac Pro (early 2008). When I'm attempting to switch OS by holding alt/option during the loadup, it's no longer detecting the keypress. I have the USB wired Apple keyboard fed through my 24in dell monitor and then connected to a USB spot on the back of my mac. I've noticed that when I plug the keyboard directly into the USB on the front of the Mac, the keypress is detected just fine. The weird part is that the way I have it set up now (with the keyboard connecting through the monitor) used to work without a problem to get to the OS load screen. I recently had to reinstall OSX because of a hard drive failure and ever since, it's not detecting. It's annoying to have to unplug/replug my keyboard, just to boot in windows.

OS X :: Stop Launching Finder Windows On Bootup?

I've set up my MB to mount several NAS volumes that I need frequent access to (my documents and photos, for example) on boot up by first connecting to the server and then adding those servers to the "Login Items" list in my account. This caused finder windows for each of these NAS volumes to "pollute" my desktop with every boot. I therefore checked the "hide" checkbox on the list . . . but that hasn't stopped them from opening.

OS X :: How To Add Current Date To Automator Save File Name

Jun 23, 2010

I have an automator script I made myself that I use constantly. When I run the script one of the steps takes a screenshot and saves it as a PNG file. When I run the script again, it replaces the old PNG file with a new one. I would really like it to save the PNG file so that file name begins with the current date at the beginning of the name. Meaning the PNG file would be named something like "6/23/10 screenshot". Is this possible?

I'd be almost as happy if I could at least get it to simply make a new PNG with any random filename just so long as it doesn't overwrite the old version. That way I could simply look at the date created column in the finder and get the same info.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: How To See Path Of Current File In TextEdit (or Any App)

Feb 22, 2012

Pre-Lion the way to see the path of the file you are currently looking at (in any app, but for simplicity let's say TextEdit), was to select Save As... and it would default to the directory the file is open in. At least that's the way I did it...

So now in Lion (which I generally like) how do you see what directory your current file is located in??

Mac Pro :: Potential Features Would Blow Current System Away?

Apr 16, 2010

I am tempted to jump on getting a new Mac Pro now instead of waiting. Primarily because i dont want to be priced out of getting the higher end model with more cores. If they do come out with a 6 and 12 core config. i would want to buy the 12 core but a lot of rumors around here and on other sites say that the new models will likely come with a price increase. potentially leaving me having to buy the 6 core model. 8 core current Vs 6 core future This makes me think i'll just get the 8 core current. BUT Are there any features that apple may add that would blow the current models away. USB 3.0, BluRay, etc. I can live without many of these things.. but perhaps i am missing something.
