Mac Pro :: Safe To Leave Mac Pro Running For Over 4 Days Straight?
Apr 5, 2009This may sound like a stupid question but bare with me here. The Ubuntu computer next to my mac pro has a problem with wireless so I share my internet from my mac pro to it via ethernet. I have to download a large 20 gig file that will take about 2 days, on my ubuntu computer, and Im going to boston so lets say 4 days. Is it safe to leave my mac pro running for over 4 days straight? I don't want to overheat or anything.

Jun 18, 2009Is it OK to leave the MB on sleep. On my previous Laptop I never shut it down unless it was necessary, im talking the computer never shutdown for like 2 or 3 weeks of use. Not continuous use, I use the laptop 3,4 maybe 5 times a day and its kinda hard for me to wait for the boot up, i usually just close it (sleep) and go away. Can I damage my MB doing that?

Oct 3, 2010I wasn't paying attention when installing the windows XP and I choose the "Leave the current file system intact" option and I am unable to boot up my IMac. Its a black screen saying failing to boot from cd, press any key to reboot and it doesn't. I have ejected the cd and I been trying to hold down the option button to choose which to load up from but it doesn't work. I have an external hard drive that I been using for time machine, is there any way I can boot up from that disc and then have the hard drive in the IMac reset to the mac OS X partition? Intel Mac :: Time Machine System Restore - Space Taken Up But No Files Seen
May 31, 2012I've had a new hard drive installed on my iMac, (and the place that did it for me also installed 10.6 OS). Now, when I plugged in an external hard drive I had been using with time machine (and OS 10.5), and clicked 'restore' in the time machine interface, it transferred 200+gigs of data onto the new hard drive. However, I can't see any files anywhere - only see that that much space is now taken on the new hard drive. I've since read elsewhere that I should have used 'migration assistant' to do the job, but before I do this, I what to get rid of the 200+gig of data taking up room. How do I do this without a fresh install of the OS? (I don't have disks for 10.6). Or will the time machine restore (with migration assistant) not work between 10.5 & 10.6?

Dec 3, 2014I have a 2013 iMac on OS 10.9.5 with no problems. I will be receiving a new iMac w Retina Display on Yosemite, which I'll be backing up with a new, unused TC.
I want to copy and transfer files from older iMac to the new one using the TC, but right now I don't want upgrade to Yosemite on the older iMac.Â
Can I manually select files from the older iMac to copy to the TC, and what files must I leave out so that there aren't any problems that transferring files from an older OS to a newer one won't arise?

This causes several duplicates showing up for each album, while browsing on Cover Flow only!I've gone through my Music - iTunes folder multiple times, cleaning through duplicates items and so on. I don't know if iTunes Libraries stored on my Mac is causing this (iTunes Database File).

Oct 5, 2009I recently check my 150 GB hard drive and noticed that I only have 10 GTB left. While going through my files to check what I don't need or want, I noticed that I have a folder called Previous Systems. Inside this folder are two other folders with dates for names. Each folder has approximately 20 GB for a total of 40 GB. Can I simply toss this folder? It does not seem to do anything. The folder must have been created from a backup some time ago. I don't recall doing that.

Now when I set mine up and I go to my in-laws and go on their network will my Macbook back up on there Time Capsule or do I have to turn off my Time Machine? MacBook Pro :: System Update And Lost System Time And Background
Oct 30, 2010I was asked to performed a system update with a reboot which I proceeded to do. Once the reboot was complete I had lost my system time (which had been reset to December 31, 2000 and my background had been replaced with the original generic MAC background. I have been unable to find the source of this issue and I am unsure how to fix this. I was able to change my clock by adjusting the Date & Time Preferences and fix my background image as well, but I am concerned that this is a temporary fix. Has anyone else experienced this with a system update?
