I plugged in a firewire/usb 2.0 hd up to my emac and the cords were accidentally yanked out of the computer. I was given an error message that any data may have been lost since it was not safely removed. However, the problem is whenever I plug the firewire device back in doesn't register at all.
I currently have my second MBP that I got from Macmall and both in a matter of two weeks have had similar issues. The first I managed to get returned and replaced, that is a seperate and complicated story in and of itself. This particular issue started with a boot up sequence that was taking about 5-6 mins. After going through the drill with Applecare thought I could restore using Time Machine. That's when I found out that the FW400 port no longer worked to power my Oyen Digital 250G FW drive. Any thoughts as to what might be the problem? This is my second MBP and Oyen Digital FW drive. I had them both replaced!
There is no number on the packaging that starts with a letter and the directions to find the number in the system profiler is a dead end as there is no "system profile" tab in the system profiler. New Macbook running 10.5.6.

And Apple doesn't answer their phone. Hardly think this falls under "tech support"
I'm having issues when trying to click on a link on a webpage or pop up. Firefox and Safari are not registering when I click on a link or button. I've only been using a Mac for only about 5 days now so I don't know all the settings and what they do.
Also this was working two days ago. If there something I disabled or enabled, how can I fix it or re-trace my steps. I need this to download PSD's for my artwork.
So i have been searching the Internet and forums to find someone with the same issue as myself. there are many that are close to it. though nothing that has helped me in this situation. so here i go posting a thread. My USB self powered HD was plugged in with data being accessed (Movie) when the cord got knocked out and unplugged the HD. This has happened before, though not when i was accessing the HD... usually this is fine.
Any way, i herd the HD struggle three time as if the needle jumped from the physical disk, it kinda sounded like it died. though when i plug it in now it sounds fine, the disk spins and receives power. although the disk no longer mounts. though when i look it up under the Disk Utility it sees the drive and the fancy name i gave it (though it cant mount the drive) when I run verify and repair it gives me this message which is probably pretty standard:
Verrify and Repair "NCC-1701 D" **/dev/disk2s1 **Phase 1 - Read FAT Unable to read FAT (input/output error) Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit
1 Non HFS volume checked 1 Volume could not be repaired because of an error.
boom nerdy music producer get stumped. got any tips? i have been trying to download some recovery software, though it more challenging to find them with out paying big dollar bills.
Wireless printing has suddenly stopped working. It worked one minute, then a few minutes later didn't! Is this an OS problem? Using Airport Extreme for wireless and everything has been fine for 4 months with iMac and old Macbook.
Info: AirPort Extreme 802.11n (5th Gen), Mac OS X (10.7.4)
Macbook Pro won't boot. Symptoms preceding failure included failure to open Firefox. When trying to cold boot I can get as far as the start-up sound, the Apple logo, and the spinning whieel (spins for a bit but not for very long) and then major failure. Not running Liom.
Info: imac 10.1, Mac OS X (10.6.2), also have macbook pro running os 10.5
Im using a 17" unibody macbookpro 2.66 early 09 to make a copy of my Leopard Disc to put in an offsite storage location. Im able to rip movies and burn movies (DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD-DL), iMovie videos, iTunes cds, rip audio discs, etc. The media is Dual-Layer DVD-R in disk utility I burn it at the slowest possible speed (on both systems) at 2.4x
After it writes the data to the disc and finishes, i get this lovely image:
I tried doing a test install of it from the burned dvd and it installed fine.... = what the huh!?
its done this twice. using the same media on a 15" 2.2ghz uMBP late 2008 gives me a completed successfully notification every-time.

I have an old 828 audio interface I've been using for years on my pc. just switched to mac with dual intel macmini running os x 10.4
I went to MOTU's website and downloaded os x drivers, and installed them... but I still can't get the computer to see the device. Profile or whatever shows the firewire ... yet device doesn't show up
Is there nothing like scan for devices on that port I can do in os x?
Created vuescan for my scanner, since microtek stopped making drivers. Can't figure out the problem. I can't find answers anywhere online, and I need this scanner working yesterday. I got it to work on my laptop since that's still running 10.7.3, but that's no practical. Did 10.7.4 upgrade do that screwed this all up?
Yesterday my screen (30" Apple Cinema) started showing symptoms of graphics card failure, jagged lines across the screen. I rebooted my Mac Pro and it was gone. Then it happened again an hour later, this time the machine didn't boot, I get the Apple logo, and then it hangs up and the screen is shifted to left (I get apple logo on left side of the monitor instead of the middle) and jagged lines all over.
So the first thing I tested was using Target Disk Mode, it works. I can access my Mac Pro's internal HD's by TDM from my MacBook Pro. Then I tested single user mode, it does boot, I can't read what's written since the screen is shifted to left, but if I type (without seeing) reboot and hit enter, it reboots. So I assume the single user mode is working.
What else can I try to 100% make sure it's my graphics card that failed and everything else is ok with Mac Pro? I already ordered a graphics card replacement but I wouldn't like to be surprised if the Mac Pro still doesn't boot when the card arrives. It won't boot from Apple Startup DVD either. Same thing happens, gray logo then kernel panic with jagged lines all across the shifted screen.
I just got a Mac Mini (March 2009 model) and want to connect it via Firewire to my Sony TRV-22 camcoder. The camcorder has a Mini DV Firewire jack on it (I think this is called a 4-pin connector sometimes too). But on the Mac Mini, I can't tell if I need a 6-pin or a 9-pin. Can someone point me to a good cable so I can dump some MiniDV tapes into iMovie?
I googled it and it didn't help out as much. I have this Shure Mic and it has MIDI input and would like to have some kind of adapter to firewire. I know there is an USB adapter, but i would like to use firewire. It can be firewire 400 or 800. I like to record some songs for GarageBand.
I recently have been working on a PowerMac G5 which came with Tiger and 5.5GB of DDR2 SDRAM, but come accross a strange issue which I've read a few people with PowerMac G5 have. At first only 2.5GB of RAM would ever register, but now I can only get 3GB to show. I've cleared the NVRAM and PRAM to no avail, upgraded to 10.5.8 with all updates with no luck. I tried swapping the modules about and found that sticks only register with an identical stick in the same numbered slot on the other group. This is really confusing me, and I'm certain the sticks work, but I can't grasp what's going on.
Info:PowerMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8), PowerMac G5 Dual 2.3GHz
I just registered iLife 09 on the Apple site, however, what is the point? I can see the point of tethering software with a serial number to Apple, but how do Apple know I actually bought iLife when I registered it? Surely someone could just look on the box and find the part number which obviously isn't unique and register it that way?
The font situation on Mac, and especially in select applications such as Safari, is laughable. Can anyone over age 50 actually read what is written on the tabs?? Is there any way to register a complaint about this at Apple so that someone might actually read it? This is especially frustrating coming from Windows and a set of apps where fonts are much better dealt with at the system level. And the Universal Access options are very poor substitutes for well designed system level font options, and reducing the resolution on my $1000 monitor to really low is stupid, and zoom with the track pad or Cmd+ doesn't zoom the menu bar, and specifying minimum font size doesn't effect the menu and tabs, etc.Â
I try to register my computer and the little wheel just spins and spins...what prompted this is my Mac Mail on my computer no longer works..I can still get mail from iCloud but it's a pain. My MacMail acct. shows Mailboxes 'offline' and imap server rejects my password..
I have just tried to register an iTunes account, I put my apple Id, my credit card and billing info and then when I click continue this message "Please enter your Apple ID and password, then click Billing Info and update your payment information. If you cancel you may not be able to buy music until this billing issue has been resolved" keeps showing up no matter how many times I re-enter the information. What can I do? I don't understand the problem exactly, I think I did everything right!
