MacBook :: Unable To Register Firefox And Safari / When Trying To Click On Link On Webpage
May 21, 2009
I'm having issues when trying to click on a link on a webpage or pop up. Firefox and Safari are not registering when I click on a link or button. I've only been using a Mac for only about 5 days now so I don't know all the settings and what they do.
Also this was working two days ago. If there something I disabled or enabled, how can I fix it or re-trace my steps. I need this to download PSD's for my artwork.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled flash player and i have installed the latest java and still every time i try to load the hulu website i get this: an extremely simplified version of the web page. All that it shows are the thumbnails of the episodes and the text with some links and all of it is to the left of the web page, the background and other features such as their moving preview thing are not there.

I prefer Firefox. But when I click on a link in an email, it opens in Safari. I searched for 'browser' and 'default' in my computer's help (no hits), and I searched the forum for 'apple mail' and 'firefox' with no good hits. Maybe related, but I see no way to make Firefox my default browser. I do have it set to open on startup, and safari does not open. But if I click on a link in an email, it will still open safari instead of using Firefox.

I heard about a software a few weeks ago where you could set it up so that a certain link always opens in a certain browser. I didn't need it at the time, but now I could really use it, and I can't remember what it was called!

When I perform a Google search and click on any of the links that show up, Safari will always open that very link in the same window. How to make Safari open each link I click in a new tab?

When going to a linked page in Safari I usually want to open it in a new tab or a new window and occasionally to do other things with it. So I'm used to right-clicking on links to bring up a contextual menu offering me:
Open Link in New Window
Open Link in New Tab
Download Linked File
Download Linked File As...
Add Link to Bookmarks...
Copy Link: I noticed the loss of this menu when my wife wanted me to look at web pages she had found related to a possible holiday. Using Safari in her account on our iMac, I found no menu appeared when I right-clicked on a link. I checked she had the "secondary button" set up OK in the mouse preferences and I also found right-clicking worked OK elsewhere. I then tried other ways of making the menu appear on a link (CTRL-clicking or holding down the left, primary button); neither worked!................

I have Mac OS 10.4.11, and Safari 3.2.1. Safari crashes if I try to Cmd-click a link to get it to open in a new tab or right-click a bookmark and choose to open it in a new tab or a new window. It did not do that before I got the Safari update. I also cannot seem to get any content into more than 3 tabs without it crashing. Is there any way to fix it?

I've had my 13" unibody Macbook Pro for a few months now and I've loved it, until now. The delete key on my keyboard has almost completely broken. It doesn't pop like the other keys. It's muddy and now unresponsive, working only 1 out of 3 hits. Additionally, my track pad doesn't register every click now. It works at about the same rate, 1 out of 3 or so. Should I take it in to an Apple Store? The nearest one to me is about an hour and a half away.

I've noticed that when I try clicking on the trackpad's button, most of the time it will register the press and other times it doesn't. The button, physically, doesn't feel any different whether it registers the click or not. The button "clicks" down like normal and doesn't feel loose. Also, when I click and hold on the button and try to move my finger around the trackpad to highlight text or drag a folder, most of the time, the computer acts like I let go of the button and pressed it down again multiple times. While it does this, my finger remains on the trackpad button without being lifted. I recently upgraded my Mac to Snow Leopard but the problem occurred even with Leopard installed. I'm unsure as to whether or not this is a software or hardware issue. Could it be that there's something lodged under the trackpad button to cause this? If so, how would I be able to check under the button?

Everytime I go to the MLB page of ESPN, Safari loads the page, then beachballs. I then have to force quit the application.
This seems to happen on pages that have video.

I have a macbook 2.2GHz Core 2 Due with 4GB of ram...
Skype is the app that keeps crashing the most, Safari and Firefox crash from time to time as well... and Mail.app crashes sometimes when Skype and Safari crash...
I already perform a fresh installation of the OS and no luck. I also kept on doing "repair disk permissions" with Disk Utility but also no luck...
The last time I performed a Tech Deluxe check and all test passed...
I think the problem can be either disk issues or faulty memory... in the worst of the worst motherboard .

I've avoided asking this question for over a year but I just can't take it anymore.
Ever since I got my first macbook pro(Tiger) in 2006, I've had a pretty poor web-surfing experience when it comes to pages with a large quantity of images.
Whether it's in Firefox or Safari, it seems it takes forever to load jpegs, gifs, pngs, etc., much slower than in Windows.
And more often than not, it'll often just stop trying to load some of the images and leave empty frames instead. An annoying side effect of these situations is that I won't be able to load other websites in separate tabs until I wait 2 or 3 minutes at least.
It almost mimics what happens when you just plain lose your internet connection. My best example is www.fark.com.
Sometimes posters will post large quantities of images, 100+. Heck, what am I saying, sometimes it's not even that much but Firefox and Safari will still choke trying to retrieve the pictures.
I set aside the macbook for this very reason because I often open multiple tabs at once when I surf..and if one of those tabs just happen to be image-intensive, my whole surfing experience will grind to a halt until whatever process is happening times itself out.
I THOUGHT the problem would be fixed with Leopard..but it hasn't. I've searched the forums but I haven't found anything useful, although I've caught small stories here and there of people having the same issue, but nothing widespread.
The whole problem starts with image files...and sometimes it doesn't necessarily need large quantities to choke. Just a modest amount will do sometimes.
Any ideas?? Is it my router? (WRT54G) My DSL connection? (Yahoo SBC) It happens on either wireless or with cable. My windows boxes don't have this problem.
Not having images load is bad enough, but having your browser stall is just insufferable! (I'm also using a brand new Macbook Pro so this problem stems across two revisions)

When I'm just surfing around the web and click on something, sometimes I'll get an error message from Mac about a disk not being ejected properly. I'm going to try to figure out how to take a screen shot of it so I can post that too.

I have the New MacBook Pro 13inch with Snow Leopard.
I have the latest Safari, Firefox, and Flash.
Recently I have been noticing that while running flash programs on Safari my browser will freeze and then I have to force quit the application.
Thinking this might just be a Safari problem, I downloaded Firefox but I am experiencing the same problems. I tried running Safari using 32-bit and Rosetta but still experiencing crashing.

I'm running Safari 5.02 on a 15" Macbook Pro running 10.6.6. ALL TOO OFTEN I will attempt to access a page [URL] and it will not load. All I get is an eternal spinning wheel. I have to launch Chrome or Firefox to achieve success and they load the page without any difficulty. I've suspected flash content conflict but have installed all the latest updates, but still no success.

I have been having problems with my Safari and firefox. They both say they are up to date. When I use fire fox to look at Hotmail.com, it takes a while to load and when I try to open mail in new tabs, it opens a tab saying "javascript;;".
When I use safari to look at hotmail, it does an infinite loop and stays blank..the URL thingy just goes in loops. I mostly use fire fox, and some times when I go to type, I will get a 10 second delay before my text appears..

The website where I pay bills online has a hot link that says "print" and when I click on it, the printout is in a teeny tiny font.
The document that I print after paying each bill is the confirmation of the payment transaction. But it's almost too small to be read without a magnifying glass.
I can't find where or how to increase the font size of the printout. Firefox preferences doesn't include any sort of font size preference to choose from; and my printer application in Settings doesn't list font sizes to choose from or to set as my default size.
PageSetup allows me to choose a paper size, but not a font size.
