MacBook Pro :: 15 Firewire Unable To List Firewire Devices And Takes 5-6 Start Up?
Feb 16, 2009
I currently have my second MBP that I got from Macmall and both in a matter of two weeks have had similar issues. The first I managed to get returned and replaced, that is a seperate and complicated story in and of itself. This particular issue started with a boot up sequence that was taking about 5-6 mins. After going through the drill with Applecare thought I could restore using Time Machine. That's when I found out that the FW400 port no longer worked to power my Oyen Digital 250G FW drive. Any thoughts as to what might be the problem? This is my second MBP and Oyen Digital FW drive. I had them both replaced!
Created vuescan for my scanner, since microtek stopped making drivers. Can't figure out the problem. I can't find answers anywhere online, and I need this scanner working yesterday. I got it to work on my laptop since that's still running 10.7.3, but that's no practical. Did 10.7.4 upgrade do that screwed this all up?
That just makes me laugh, no body owning a 13" Apple laptop can have it all ehh. I am now glad that i bought my unibody before the upgrade because I don't want to go out and spend $150+ on an audio device just to record a few tunes from my guitar. Wow, I do love the new MBP, but can't apple just give it all to the 13" customers?
I do a lot of video editing, and my 1st problem is I have 2 firewire 800 ports being used, 1 for dumping footage and 1 for my external gtech drive. The mac pro will NOT recognize both at the same time, either my gtech will go offline and dismount or the camera will not be recognized in FCP. I had a 24" imac before this and I had the same issue, I could not mount more than 1 firewire port at the same time. this sucks because there are several 800 ports
2nd problem, the mac pro will NOT boot to desktop when the external drive is plugged in on startup. It will stay on a "blue" screen until i disconnect the drive and hit ESC several times... whats going on?
btw, when i connect the gtech via usb and the camera firewire, it works fine. lame... did I get a dud? or is this a common issue?
I upgraded my iMac G5 iMac 2.0Ghz (standard with 1.5Gb RAM) to Leopard 10.5.2 via the original installer DVD (OSX 10.4) and a Leopard upgrade DVD.
I backed up the internal HD to an external FW drive using Carbon Copy Cloner, then wiped my internal drive, which had been partitioned into 3 partitions, back into one journaled partition.
It was a smooth installation of OSX 10.4 and upgrade to 10.5 plus all necessary updaters. I let it install all the applications & settings from the previous system on the external FW HD. In the process I must have rebooted several times and my external FW drive still worked.
Once I had Leopard updated I set about tailoring my settings and UI. I set up Spaces and multiple tabs in DragThing when I got a kernel panic. I am not sure whether the panic happened in Spaces preferences or in DragThing.
Since then boot up has been extremely slow. 1m 45sec of the spinning cursor and another 4 min of blue screen before log-in. I can no longer see any connected FireWire devices (HDs & DVD burner that are OK on other machines) or my EtherNet cable connection. AirPort is still working as is my USB.
I ran DiskUtility both from the HD and the Leopard installer DVD. It does not see any FireWire drives even when running the DVD system.
I just got a Mac Mini (March 2009 model) and want to connect it via Firewire to my Sony TRV-22 camcoder. The camcorder has a Mini DV Firewire jack on it (I think this is called a 4-pin connector sometimes too). But on the Mac Mini, I can't tell if I need a 6-pin or a 9-pin. Can someone point me to a good cable so I can dump some MiniDV tapes into iMovie?
I googled it and it didn't help out as much. I have this Shure Mic and it has MIDI input and would like to have some kind of adapter to firewire. I know there is an USB adapter, but i would like to use firewire. It can be firewire 400 or 800. I like to record some songs for GarageBand.
I just got the external harddrive "Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex USB 3.0 1TB" with a Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Upgrade Kabel FireWire 800. I have neither a USB 3.0, nor a Firewire 800 on my white macbook (2008). I already know, that it's possible to use USB 3.0 with an USB 2.0 port, but I would like to use it with the firewire to spare the USB port for other devices. My question: Is there an adapter or cable to use the Seagate Firewire 800 with my Firewire 400 port? I don't know, where and what to look for.
Info: MacBook (13-inch Early 2008), Mac OS X (10.6.8)
I have an old 828 audio interface I've been using for years on my pc. just switched to mac with dual intel macmini running os x 10.4
I went to MOTU's website and downloaded os x drivers, and installed them... but I still can't get the computer to see the device. Profile or whatever shows the firewire ... yet device doesn't show up
Is there nothing like scan for devices on that port I can do in os x?
I plugged in a firewire/usb 2.0 hd up to my emac and the cords were accidentally yanked out of the computer. I was given an error message that any data may have been lost since it was not safely removed. However, the problem is whenever I plug the firewire device back in doesn't register at all.
i just thought it was compatible because it said it was made for the mac and i really wanted to use my surround sound system. So my dilemma is that it came with a firewire 400 cable and I have a firewire 800 port on my mac mini which i bought recently. I've looked for some adapters and I saw one that said it accepts male firewire 400 6 pin and at the other end is a 9 pin firewire 800. it says its designed to connect your firewire 400 cable so it can be used in firewire 800 ports for newer macs. I'm not 100 percent sure what all that means and I didn't want to go buy something without being sure that's what I need.
I just jailbroke my iPhone 3GS and installed MyWi to work with my iPad. I also tried it on my MacBook Pro using Bluetooth. After I paired my iPhone and MacbBook Pro together everything worked fine. Now under the Airport Menu I see a separate category labeled "Devices" which is just below where my Home Network is.
My questions is how do I go about deleting this? I've tried everything. I deleted my device under Bluetooth Preferences, quit MyWi, messed around with the Network Preferences and it still appears under the Airport Menu. I even clicked connect but of course that doesn't work since I quit everything and deleted the device in Bluetooth settings. It's not even listed under "Preferred Networks" when you click on the advanced tab. It appears as "(my last name) Hotspot" and is under a tab labeled "Devices"
I did a bunch of research and found a bunch of conflicting information. My question to you all is this:are there any good, portable external hard drives that support both FireWire and USB?I have an iMac and an MB Pro, but a lot of people I know don't; I would like to use the FireWire and still be able to use the hard drive with others' computers who do not.I was looking for something that: did not require an actual electrical plug (wanted the USB/FireWire to be used as the power source)is at least 1TB (would prefer 1.5TB)is (preferably but doesn't have to be) rugged.I plan on doing some traveling and whatnot and just throwing it my bag; I'd probably go a while without having a chance to really maintain it, hence my wanting these things.
The main ones I was looking at are the LaCie MiniRugged, LaCie Rugged, Transcend Storejet 25H2P and 25M2, and the Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex.Unfortunately, I've either heard bad reviews or they don't meet all my criteria. The LaCies, for example, were said by some to be outdated, flimsy, etc. (and the mini doesn't have a FireWire port). The Transcends don't do FireWire, nor does the Seagate. In case anyone was wondering, I included the Seagate becaue I have a friend who just got back from a year-long trip bumming around Asia with it and it stood up fine (but, again, no FireWire) I was wondering if anyone could suggest anything.
My macbook does not have a firewire port. Is there any kind of adapter that will allow me to use my advc 300 (which need to plug in to the FireWire port)?
I've been having a lot of problems with heat in relation to my firewire audio interface on my MacBook.Initially I thought it was my external monitor that was the main problem. Well, it does add some heat. The temperature raises about 5-6 degrees celcius and the fan speeds up to 2400rpm when idling. This I can live with. However, when connecting my firewire audio interface the heat and fan speed becomes unacceptable. The heat raises about 10 degrees, and the fan speeds up to about 5500rpm. After about half an hour of regular use, like browsing, the temperature goes up even more (as expected) and the fan starts blowing at full speed. And this by just browsing the web.
Just wondering why does apple supply firewire ports on all their comps including laptops, because these days I can't find anything that has firewire ports that I will use everyday i.e. flash disc, HD, mouse etc. I know there's somewhere a 2.5" HD firewire case available but I already have a USB case for an external, and it would probably be more expensive to get it. What do you guys use firewire ports for?
I was doing a little searching on Google and came across this:

Looks like it's an ethernet to Firewire 400/USB adapter. Anybody ever actually used one? Could this be the solution to the lack of Firewire on the new MB?
I just purchased the new 15 inch MacBook Pro. I noticed that there is only 1 Firewire 800 port, (same for the IMAC as well). I do video editing and need to plug in a mini-dv video camera and G-Tech Firewire 800 drive into it. I found out that I can't capture video by daisy chaining the video camera into the hard drive and the hard drive into the laptop. Is there anything out there that can split a Firewire 800 port? Through google, I've only found Firewire 400 hubs but haven't come across firewire 800 hubs.
i am looking to buy a external HD that don't run on AC and use firewire 800. i know LaCie have one, is there any other one that does? hit me up with a link or something or branding and model.
