I am looking to create an Apple Script to search through the console log for a certain string of text, but am not having much success. Specifically, I would want the script to search through the system log, and if it finds a string of text it would use the say command to say that it found the string. Conversely, if it does not find the search string it would use the say command to say it didn't.

I recently got a new iMac and backed up from Time Machine. Everything is fine apart from Apple Mail, which no longer searches my Gmail archive. The archive is still there, all 33,000 messages, but just not searchable.Â
So, for example, if I got an email from a guy called George a month ago, when I search 'George' nothing comes up. I can manually go to the Archive and find the email but obviously that takes a lot of time.Â
Is this an Apple issue or a Gmail issue? Given that I run the same account on my laptop and it's all working fine, plus it was working fine before, I would assume it;s an Apple fault.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm fairly new to Apple Mail and what not. So I'm going to refer to what I used to do on my PC to handle some important email's that I received. This was while I was using the built in Windows Mail program. What I want to do and use to do is. While in the mail program I created an "Important" folder for the mail program and I would move important emails that I did not want lingering in my inbox and that I didn't want to delete or anything. Is there some way to create folders in Apple Mail to save some important emails like this? I have 3 email accounts in Apple Mail [Gmail, MobileMe, & Comcast POP].

Apple tells me because of their move to iCloud the iWeb function on my MacBook will no longer be able to publish my website. I can create a site with iWeb but not publish it. I will need a third party. I like managing my website myself. What are people doing in my situation? I haven't moved to iCloud yet but am told I will have to by June 30. All I'm seeing in the forums is how much trouble people are having with iCloud.

I highlighted about 23 songs from an album, and clicked on create apple lossless version. I now have two copies of each song. Shouldn't it have asked me if I wanted to delete the original version? I guess I need to delete each one individually?

I just upgraded to MacOSx 10.9.3 (Mavericks) from Mountain Lion. Apple Mail can no longer create a reminder by dragging an email into the reminders icon on the bottom app bar. This was a great function. Was it discontinued in Mavericks, or is this a flaw that I can fix by changing a setting somehow?

My Apple remote won't pair with my iMac (Lion) or my MacBook Pro (Snow Leopard). It works with iTunes and VLC Media Player on both without being paired, but pairing is supposed to work isn't it?I've used the iMac's camera to check that the remote's battery is OK. When I press any one button, the live camera picture shows a blinking light. However, if I press two buttons (Menu and Next, as is required for pairing) there is no blinking light.Is it possible that the Apple remote's battery is good enough to create a blinking light when one button is pressed, but not when two are pressed? I've hardly used it, so I'd be surprised if the battery was low already.
Also, I'm not sure that when I click on Pair... in System Preferences > Security & Privacy, whether the pressing of two buttons for pairing has to be done while the OK popup is present or not. It doesn't matter when I try it, I never see a paired-remote graphic.
I have the advantage of having my own server for mail at Media Temple. So I can create a number of account stemmed off my central domain. The problem iswith my limited knowledge of Apple Mail, I have to create an account for each one. I am unable to use the search window on the right to get results when Google is selected as the search engine.I type in a search term and I am directed to a blank google search page. I have to type in the search term again, then I see a list of "hits". But when
I click on one of these hits I am not directed to the URL displayed. I have quit out of Safari and relaunched. I have rebooted my Mac. Neither changes the problem... This is a Google problem: I have the same symptoms when I use Safari on Windows XP. When I switch the search engine to Bing, the problems go away, for both platforms Has Google been hacked? Is this a Google attack on Safari?  How can I enter GoGoDuck as a search engine choice? Â

On my macbook pro which is using mountain lion, by safari search engine preferences is set to google, but when i enter a search term it defaults to bing. Only noticed this problem after downloading adobe flash player for what it's worth.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to create a disk image of a Mac drive (.dmg file).I figured that it might not be a good idea to try and image a live disk, so I unmounted it (the user dragged the disk icon to the eject icon), and I confirmed it was unmounted by looking at /Volumes. To be clear here, this isn't the boot volume, that is /dev/disk0./dev/disk1 is an internal drive - as it happens it's the original drive for this OSX 10.4 G5, AND /Volumes/HITACHI is the mount point for an external USB drive.I have tried this twice.On both occassions, things seemed to go well, but after a few minutes (about 10 - 20 minutes), I observed that the target file on /Volumes/HITACHI stopped growing, then a bunch of unpleasant stuff started to happen:
* I did lsof /Volumes/HITACHI/MacHD_20120201.dmg and found the PID of the diskimage binary, ps waux showed it was doing nothing (CPU% was 0.0). This indicates a stuck process to me.
* The hdutil command stopped producing '.'
* I could not cancel the hduitl command
* I could not rm the MacHD_20120201.dmg file
* I could not ls the /Volumes/HITACHI directory
* unlink also hung
A little further into this, the Mac became unresponsive. I observed that the disk was now mounted again (grrr!). As a work around I switched the USB drive off and on, and Mac came good - all my terminals started to respond, the GUI responded for the user.My workaround has been to use CCC to make a clone of the disk - but I don't like this because I think .dmg files are much more convenient (for a start, now that I've used CCC I can't use the USB drive for anything else).
* Is my methodology wrong? Do I really need to umount the /dev/disk1
* Can you disable finder from automounting an internal hard drive (I am particularly interested in this)Â
