Software :: Mac Mini Switching To 1080i From 1080p
May 25, 2009
So I got 1080p to display on my plasma. The only problem I have is that when I try to run iTunes visualizers (any) it switches to 1080i. When I stop the visualizer the computer goes back to displaying 1080p. Anyone know a way to keep it on 1080p all the time?

managing to play 1080i raw AVCHD-format .mts video files on a 2GHz C2D mini, I'd like to hear how.I'm having limited success playing .mts files on a firewire external (FW400) in VLC. I'd like to be able to do it without dropping frames, and thought it was possible. I can play 1080 Quicktime smoothly, but not .mts at the moment.

Can I edit HD 1080i/p video in AVCHD on MacMini - i5 2,3 GHz, 500 GB, 2GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics 3000 in iMovie? Will it be stable and useable? I need it for home use only so do not mind about waiting to render/ compile DVD etc. I might need to upgrade RAM to 4 or 8GB, but is the CPU & GPU good enough?

My current Mini (1.83 ghz dual) skips frames when playing back 1080P QT MOV files.
I use the Mini as a DVD player / HTPC. Only recently started taking 1080P video and was bummed at skips on big screen playback.
Has anyone tried playing 1080P video on the new 2.26 ghz model?

I attempted to google this however I got some mixed results. However I do think that most of the reviews that I was reading was from older Mac Mini models.
I want to get a Mac Mini for a Media Center for my TV. I have alot of iTunes HD TV shows and movies, as well as various Blu-Ray and Downloaded 1080p .mkv rips. I play them fine on my Mac Pro w/ VLC... was wondering how the Latest Gen Mac Mini handles it?

I have recently purchased a brand new 2.3Ghz Mac Mini to act as a home theatre PC which is connected to my receiver via HDMI & running Plex.In the MAC OSX display settings I have the resolution set to 1080p & then launch Plex to watch my media & everything is fine. The issue is whenever I turn the receiver off (Mac Mini remains on) and then come back to watch my media, the Mac Mini has automatically reverted its resolution to 720p (Plex is still open). For the life of me I can't figure out why this is happening. Mac Mini is set to never sleep, no screen saver or other hibernation like settings are enabled, it's just got me perplexed as to why it's downscaling itself!

When using bootcamp with Windows 7: My 1080p output is shrunk as if it has the wrong overscan settings. I am using a direct HDMI cable and the display works just fine when using OSX Lion. I tried updating the AMD Catalyst software directly and there is no change. In fact: it's as if the catalyst didn't even install. I can't find the control panel anywhere. It's not the monitor, I tried all the auto adjustment stuff. Plus, again, it works in OSX It's not a cable. I tried switching them. Other computers display correctly to the monitor (Acer, 1080p)

I have a bunch of 720p MKV files. I have my mini connected with HDMI to my 54" Panasonic 1080p. I set the resolution on the mini to 1080 and I play my MKV files...
When I set my resolution on my computer to 720p the movie takes up almost the full screen before i select full screen mode. When I set the computer resolution to 1080p and play the 720p media the movie screen only takes up about 3/4 of the screen until i set to full screen mode.
Do I lose any quality or get extra quality having my mini res at 1080p but playing 720p media?
Is the NVIDIA geforce capable of upscaling 720p to 1080?

Why can't you play 1080p video on a macbook pro or mac mini? This means you have to sync files which are over 1GB in size one at a time to the new ipad just to view them and this takes a long time. When at home, I use itunes via a macbook pro/mac mini for all my multi media connect to my TV, now I have GB's of files I cannot watch at home.
It kind of defeats the object, there is not enough space on an ipad to hold much HD content, certainly I will not be buying anymore HD video files from itunes for this reason. I am dissapointed to have wasted money on 1080p videos that I have to sync one at a time to a new ipad just to watch them. The new ipad screen is great but surely we need the option to watch 1080p HD video on out TV too? The crazy thing is that itunes/quicktime can easily handle 1080p video which is not from the itunes store so Apple must be deliberately restricting itunes bought 1080p HD video to the new ipad.

i just bought the macbook alu. w/ the mini displayport, i tried to plug it directly to my samsung 1080p hdtv with the Mdport to vga cable but the tv didnt display anything. so i searched the web to find other solutions (Mdport to dvi -> dvi to hdmi cable), but for me that means buying 2 other cables so i was wondering if i could use this route: mini displayport to vga -> vga/dvi-i adapter -> dvi-i/hdmi cable -> 1080p hdtv? with this example, i would have to buy only the dvi-i/hdmi cable since I already have the vga/dvi-i adapter (my old MSI 6600gt one) so hows that sound? thx for giving me the answer ASAP cause I need to make a surprise presentation for my boy!

I bought the correct Mini-DVI to VGA adapter and 3.5mm audio cable for my black macbook 2.4GHz in order to project and watch movies, etc. When I hook everything up, the MacBook display settings recognize another display immediately. However the Samsung doesn't see anything connected into the VGA input. I know its not the Samsung HDTV because I had an '08 HP laptop hooked up just fine a few months ago. Should I try different resolutions? I searched the forums for awhile but nata.

I'm interested in getting larger memory for my Tiger 10.4.11 iMac but I don't want to buy a new iMac or iBook. Also, I noticed that the Sims 3 is only compatible with Leopard. Would it be possible to link up a Mac mini to my iMac and install/run the Sims 3 and iLife '09 without clogging up my iMac too much?

Ok, so the charger port on my computer eats up every charger that I plug into it. Instead of constantly taking my laptop apart and having to replace the DC jack every week or so , i want to buy a mac mini. The only problem is though that I do not know what the max resolution of the mac mini is. I am thinking of buying a monitor off of Newegg, and the mini from apple's website. I am going to be upgrading the $600 mini to max ram, keyboard and mouse, and max processor. So it is gonna be a 2.26 GHz mac mini that I will be using...

So I'm sharing a PC keyboard between my mini and my PC, and I have my mini plugged into my TV and a computer display. When I use the display I need to have mirroring turned on and when I'm using the TV I turn it off so it goes back to the TV resolution.
Is there a shortcut or an app that I can use to toggle the modes from the keyboard rather than what I'm doing at the moment, which is jumping on my ipad and VNCing in so I can turn the mirroring on? I'd seen cmd-F1 mentioned, but it doesn't do anything for me.

We had a new addition to the family (baby) so I decided to get a videocamera. Wanted something future proof, so got a high definition memory card based camera: Sony CX11 Needed a new computer, had an old PC, but for some reason went to the other side and purchased a Macbook- I heard they were very good at editing video (and it is). Within 2 weeks I had completely filled my 250GB hard drive with all this movie footage! I need to get it off my Macbook and free up my hard drive!
Editing in iMovie... no probs. Burning in i DVD... few glitches, but got there in the end. Cool, no probs you think right... NO I have a 1080p TV screen, and a PS3. So i'm recording in 1080i HD footage, but I'm losing all the HD quality!!! The DVD image quality is so poor in comparison with the quality I get when I plug my camcorder into my TV. Its frustrating...................

Ive been searching around in a great lot of forums, but I have not yet find the answer I'm looking for. I have got a Canon Legria HF200 (1080i) videocamera and a MacBook late 2009. When I import the video that i have recorded into iMovie (I don't know any other ways - it's AVCHD format) the MacBook warns me that if I'll import in full resolution (1080i) this will might result slow playback on my computer. Why? When i preview the files before I import them the video plays perfectly fine. If I import them to my laptop and then view them they turn out to be played really slow and unclear. Would this be a problem with the way iMovie imports the file, or my hardware? Could it be that my HDD is to slow? This has annoyed me for months,

When i connect my hdtv to my mbp via vga (using mini displayport vga adapter) I am only achieving a 1080i signal. I did some research and I found that there are two 1080 resolution options in leopard, one being 1080i and the other being 1080p, you simply have to turn the display options on in the menu bar and then select the one you wish to use.
With this new found knowledge i found the two resolution options and tried them however, I found that one of the 1080 resolution options outputted 1080i whilst the other outputted 1050, despite clearly saying 1080. This has me baffled! Is this due to me using a vga cable and has anyone had similar issues? Additionally, is it possible to achieve a 1080p signal from a mbp? Mine is the late 08 model if that makes a difference.

I chose the Mini because it's a small step into the Mac world but also because it can make full use of my 30" Samsung display at 2560 x 1200 (mini display port to dual-DVI).
I am impressed that such a physically small machine can drive such high res display and still perform so well.
So I had my old spare 19" Samsung display kicking around and thought that it'd be a laugh to hook that up to the spare mini-DVI port since the mini-DVI to DVI adaptor came with the Mini and see how it performs.

I have a lot of 1080p videos on my Mac, and I can play them in every app but iTunes. iTunes says i cannot play the videos as I have a 1.86GHz CPU, which does not meet the requirements for playing 1080p HD videos in iTunes [URL]. The thing is is that I can play these videos in any other app (they are not protected files, as they are BluRay rips from my external BluRay drive).
My question is this: how can I get these videos to play on my Mac, and on my iPod touch as well?

I was wondering if such software exist. I have a mac pro in my home office and would like to also plug a second monitor (HD TV) in the living room. Is there a way for me to see what is showing on the TV? I want to use that instead of streaming to my apple TV in the living room which is unable to play 1080p movies. Of course I don't want to mirror both monitors, I would like to be able to look at my emails in the office while my girlfriend watch a movie.

I bought a 32'' 1080p tv to be an external monitor for my IbookG4. I need to hook it up via HDMI to even get the 1080p. I bought a $100 converter to get VGA to HDMI output with HDCP. 1080 didn't show up on my list, and the highest I can get is 1280x1024. I then bought DisplayConfigX and installed to get the resolution, and i still get the same thing. My vid card is a ATIRadeon9700 pro mac edition, and should be able to go up to 1920. I've had a monitor hooked up via vga before that put out 1600x1100.
