Mac Mini :: Can Playback 1080P QT Video
Mar 15, 2009My current Mini (1.83 ghz dual) skips frames when playing back 1080P QT MOV files.
I use the Mini as a DVD player / HTPC. Only recently started taking 1080P video and was bummed at skips on big screen playback.
Has anyone tried playing 1080P video on the new 2.26 ghz model?

Jul 3, 2009In a few weeks time I'm getting my Mac Mini upgraded to 2GB memory for Snow Leopard when it comes out. My Mac Mini is a 2006 Intel Core Solo model, and in September I'll be wanting to buy Snow Leopard but I want to be 100% sure that my Mac Mini will be able to install Snow Leopard since its DVD media. I know I can't burn DVDs with this Mac Mini but, although may seem like a stupid question will I be able to install Snow Leopard with it being DVD media.

Apr 15, 2012My old Mini is in the next room to the wireless DSL modem. It gets one to three max bars, usually two, and it's just through one interior wall. I don't want to spend a bunch of money, I just want to get a little better reception in the next room. I have seen USB wifi antennas advertised. Would that do anything for me? My iBook G4 in the same spot gets full reception no problem.

Aug 31, 2010Currently I stream media (videos only at the moment) through my older MBP C2D Laptop using PS3 Media Server. I find the PS3 is loud and annoying so thinking of picking up a new generation Mac Mini to run my Media Serving Needs. My Equipment list is:
Pioneer 5080HD 768p Plasma
Yamaha RX-V3900 AVR
The rest of the equipment does not really matter. Thinking of hokoing it up by HDMI through the AVR to the plasma. Want to run Plex as my media front end. Now I also have an Acer Windows Home Server box kicking around with 1TB drive in it. Is it possible to use that on the network as a type of Media Storage that can be accessed by the Mini through Plex? Should I just use the WHS box as an archive unit? I know I will fill up the mini's HD fairly quickly.
Also I usually watch 720p MKV files through my PS3 so would I be fine doing that on the mini as well using Plex?
Mac Mini :: Apple Remote Setup / Functionality With Plex?
Jul 13, 2010I recently bought the 2010 mac mini with the apple remote and I am very happy. I am having a little bit of trouble using the apple remote. Every time I turn on the mac mini I need to go to preferences and change the options of Candelair for the apple remote to work properly with Plex. I mean. I turn on the mac mini and the apple remote wont work absolutely. I need to get the magic mouse and go to preferences and change some options. It seems that this is the only way to "activate" the Plex functionality.
What I want is just to turn on the mac mini and immediately open Plex with the apple remote without needing to use the magic mouse or going to preferences. Is this possible? There must be a way to control the mac mini and Plex just from the start of Mac OS X. It gets very annoying to use the magic mouse along the apple remote. I turn on the mac mini and if I press the middle button (the one to open Plex with Candelair) nothing happens. As I say, I need to go to preferences and adjust the settings of Candelair and then it works. Why doesn't it work from the beginning?

I want to get a Mac Mini for a Media Center for my TV. I have alot of iTunes HD TV shows and movies, as well as various Blu-Ray and Downloaded 1080p .mkv rips. I play them fine on my Mac Pro w/ VLC... was wondering how the Latest Gen Mac Mini handles it?
Mac Mini :: Reverting To 720p From 1080p?
Apr 19, 2012I have recently purchased a brand new 2.3Ghz Mac Mini to act as a home theatre PC which is connected to my receiver via HDMI & running Plex.In the MAC OSX display settings I have the resolution set to 1080p & then launch Plex to watch my media & everything is fine. The issue is whenever I turn the receiver off (Mac Mini remains on) and then come back to watch my media, the Mac Mini has automatically reverted its resolution to 720p (Plex is still open). For the life of me I can't figure out why this is happening. Mac Mini is set to never sleep, no screen saver or other hibernation like settings are enabled, it's just got me perplexed as to why it's downscaling itself!Â

Mac Mini :: New Mac Mini - Choppy Video Playback In VLC For Mkv Or Avi Files
Sep 30, 2010Just bought the new mac mini with HDMI out - 2.66Ghz, 8 Gb RAM, 500 Gb HDD
A lot of mkv or avi files I playback appear pretty choppy in VLC - my primary app for watching movies and tv shows.
I have a Drobo with two 2 TB SATA drives where I store all my stuff and which is connected to my mini via firewire 800.
I've tried playing the same video back from both the Drobo and from the internal hard drive, to see if the choppiness was on account of the external drive or not. No difference really. A choppy video remains choppy from either place.
It's pretty strange because some 1080p videos play just fine, with no choppiness whatsoever, while other 720p videos or even standard definition divx files are still choppy.
Software :: Mac Mini Switching To 1080i From 1080p
May 25, 2009So I got 1080p to display on my plasma. The only problem I have is that when I try to run iTunes visualizers (any) it switches to 1080i. When I stop the visualizer the computer goes back to displaying 1080p. Anyone know a way to keep it on 1080p all the time?

Mar 17, 2012When using bootcamp with Windows 7: My 1080p output is shrunk as if it has the wrong overscan settings. I am using a direct HDMI cable and the display works just fine when using OSX Lion. I tried updating the AMD Catalyst software directly and there is no change. In fact: it's as if the catalyst didn't even install. I can't find the control panel anywhere. It's not the monitor, I tried all the auto adjustment stuff. Plus, again, it works in OSX It's not a cable. I tried switching them. Other computers display correctly to the monitor (Acer, 1080p)Â

Mac Mini :: Playing 720p MKV Files At 1080p Resolution?
Nov 19, 2010I have a bunch of 720p MKV files. I have my mini connected with HDMI to my 54" Panasonic 1080p. I set the resolution on the mini to 1080 and I play my MKV files...
When I set my resolution on my computer to 720p the movie takes up almost the full screen before i select full screen mode. When I set the computer resolution to 1080p and play the 720p media the movie screen only takes up about 3/4 of the screen until i set to full screen mode.
Do I lose any quality or get extra quality having my mini res at 1080p but playing 720p media?
Is the NVIDIA geforce capable of upscaling 720p to 1080?
ITunes :: Why No 1080p HD Video On Macbook Pro/mac Mini From Store
May 28, 2012Why can't you play 1080p video on a macbook pro or mac mini? This means you have to sync files which are over 1GB in size one at a time to the new ipad just to view them and this takes a long time. When at home, I use itunes via a macbook pro/mac mini for all my multi media connect to my TV, now I have GB's of files I cannot watch at home. Â
It kind of defeats the object, there is not enough space on an ipad to hold much HD content, certainly I will not be buying anymore HD video files from itunes for this reason. I am dissapointed to have wasted money on 1080p videos that I have to sync one at a time to a new ipad just to watch them. The new ipad screen is great but surely we need the option to watch 1080p HD video on out TV too? The crazy thing is that itunes/quicktime can easily handle 1080p video which is not from the itunes store so Apple must be deliberately restricting itunes bought 1080p HD video to the new ipad.Â

Dec 24, 2008i just bought the macbook alu. w/ the mini displayport, i tried to plug it directly to my samsung 1080p hdtv with the Mdport to vga cable but the tv didnt display anything. so i searched the web to find other solutions (Mdport to dvi -> dvi to hdmi cable), but for me that means buying 2 other cables so i was wondering if i could use this route: mini displayport to vga -> vga/dvi-i adapter -> dvi-i/hdmi cable -> 1080p hdtv? with this example, i would have to buy only the dvi-i/hdmi cable since I already have the vga/dvi-i adapter (my old MSI 6600gt one) so hows that sound? thx for giving me the answer ASAP cause I need to make a surprise presentation for my boy!

Jul 3, 2009I bought the correct Mini-DVI to VGA adapter and 3.5mm audio cable for my black macbook 2.4GHz in order to project and watch movies, etc. When I hook everything up, the MacBook display settings recognize another display immediately. However the Samsung doesn't see anything connected into the VGA input. I know its not the Samsung HDTV because I had an '08 HP laptop hooked up just fine a few months ago. Should I try different resolutions? I searched the forums for awhile but nata.

Intel Mac :: Quicktime Playback Distortion On Some Mp4 Files?
May 10, 2012I am having a problem playing some mp4 files through Quicktime. When the video is played in Quicktime (or Pro Presenter 4), portions of the video turn into distorted white blocks that move with the video. It doesn't continue throughout the whole video, but I can't discern when or why it only affects certain portions. It does it every time at those places in the video. I downloaded VLC, and the same exact file plays perfectly fine in VLC and on other computers through various programs. I have only seen this problem on this computer.Â
Is this a codec issue? How do I fix it? The files in question are mp4 files using h.264 video and AAC audio at 1920x1080 resolution. I can play other mp4s using h.264 and AAC without any problems.Â
I have only had this problem with one of the companies that we periodically hire to produce videos for us. I'm guessing that it has something to do with the way he encoded the video, but I have no idea what the problem is. It's probably not his fault if it only distorts on this one computer.Â

Apr 13, 2012my 2008 Mac Pro keeps losing connection to my Plex Blu-ray burner. It is installed in the second optical drive bay. If I power down, pull the connections to the drive and re-attach, the drive is again recognized on boot. A day later, no drive found. The first optical (top bay) drive never loses connection.Â

Nov 19, 2009I just received the monoprice male mini-display + male usb audio to female hdmi... when I connected it to my tv it worked great. I changed output for audio to usb and safari and vlc worked great(i.e. hd youtube clips play without hiccup, 1080p movies work, 720p tv shows work)
The only problem I had is when I open plex my sound suddenly goes from coming out of the TV to coming out of the built MBP speakers. What confused me is that sound effects ( when I raise or lower the volume using the shortcuts ) come out of of the tv speakers but the movie sounds come out of the MBP. I tried to look at settings in plex but I couldn't figure it out.
Intel Mac :: Horizontal Lines Float Up Vertically During Video Playback?
May 8, 2012Recently I have noticed that in certain videos, specifically those that have a lot of movement and blinking lights there is a horizontal line that will appear and float up during playback. I tried using different media players and the floating line remains. I have also tried to de-interlace in VLC to no help. I will also add that all of my drivers and software are up to date.Â
